the "kids want to be sexy" thing is especially weird. it's not a secret that kids who are entering puberty are thinking about sex, that's one of the integral parts of going through puberty, is that starts being something that is on your mind. to conflate that though with kids wanting to be found sexually attractive by others (because that's what it means to want to be sexy)... this guy deadass believes that there are children out there in the world, who want to make him and creeps like him get a boner when he looks at them. he believes that that is something they desire but society just won't let them be sexy. he can deny it all he wants but anyone with half a brain can see this guy is a pedophile. aside from him flat out admitting to finding the kids in this movie attractive and arousing which is totally damning in and of itself, even if he left out that unfortunate admission about himself, the way he approaches the topic in general is in so many ways the same as how known pedophiles defend their sickness. they think their insane delusions apply to everyone else. if they think kids are hot then they think everyone also thinks that and he's the only one who has the bravery to be honest and everyone else is a liar. if he thinks kids are hot then he thinks the kids that he fantasizes about victimizing are asking for it and that they secretly want to be appealing to him. he really thought he was making some sort of grand statement about how we live in a society or some shit, but all he was doing was admitting to his own warped way of thinking and his fucked up view of the world.

Feminism is the idea that men aka the patriarchy created the socio-economic situations we have. One example is gender roles man works women stays home. Feminists believe we should abolish gender roles and allow people to freely choose who they want to be. Most people will still choose the traditional roles but the people that don't wont be crucified for doing so. Another example is treating women like children how people talk down on them or just ignore them in conversation it's kinda messed up. You're complicite in this. You saw young children being exploited and instead of thinking "these are children," "this is gross," OR EVEN "this is bad," you thought "wow these children sure are sexy" and actually allowed yourself to think that was an OK thought. Even more so, you weren't disgusted by that thought, or even a little guilty; in fact, you went and made A VIDEO ABOUT WHY YOU THOUGHT IT WAS GOOD. And these poor children are out that somewhere living ia world where a man is making a video about why he found them, a literal child, _sexy._

The fact that children, in this case girls, are becoming more sexual due to cultural and social influences is a problem definitely. Many teens are losing their virginity at a younger age and then later come to regret it. It's okay to express your sexuality, but generally the over expression of sexuality at a young age (like 11) is due to trauma and should NOT be supported. Of course, as we get older we become more sexual due to our nature to reproduce. If it becomes more acceptable for young kids to be sexual and we don't recognise the symptoms of trauma because we're just "so accepting of sexuality!" it can and will be dangerous. I myself have been groomed by a close family friend and it has damaged my relationship with sex. I was 11 when it happened. I was exposed to pornography when I was 7 by chance, but I still browsed pornography. And that overexposure really made me more sexual, and it's not a good thing. I'm not a sexual person anymore, but a lot of what I used to be was due to my innocence and my ability to be taken advantage of. There is one thing that I think Cuties brought up in a terrible manner, one of the girls was a Muslim, and obviously sexually repressed and repressed with femininity. That can damage a relationship with sex, and I think the message of cultural oppression/repression is important but not how Cuties did it. Cuties was just eye candy for perverts. Note: sexuality was used as in sexual expression not sexual orientation

What people like that don't seem to get is that it's not about the movie pointing out that sexualizing children is bad: because of course it is. It's about using children and sexualizing them to show it, therefore literally just doing the thing you're against. Obviously, the easy counter is that we don't film people actually dying to get a character death - I mean some do, but those movies are rightfully illegal. But like, we also don't get actual racists to make a movie about how racism is bad. It should be obvious to not do exactly the same thing you're against just to prove a point. Specifically if you're in Hollywood, or Netflix or whatever, because you're not here to prove a point. You're here to make money. And some galaxybrains will point at fucking cartoons depicting like schoolgirls doing some raunchy shit, and yeah, it's kinda fucked up, but guess what - it's not actually children. They're drawings, voiced by probably some old lady who just wants some money. The only thing getting exploited there is your sanity, not the lives of actual children. I tell you, like 20 years from now we will have a documentary about Cuties and how the children got fucked over by the producers.

I watched the movie today. It made me uncomfortable. It reminded me of some of the stupid things me and my friends did when we were preteens and wanted to be grown-up. Specifically: omegle chats, thongs, obsessing over boys, fights, wanting to wear over-the-top makeup and revealing clothes. It made me feel scared for the characters because of how I look back at how me and my friends acted as preteens and I'm embarrassed. Honestly, the overarching plotline about Amy's devout Muslim mother trying to cope with her husband getting a second wife was the most interesting thing about the movie. The movie is about Amy thinking that she can either be miserable, submissive and suffering like her poor mother, or she can be provocative and wild like the popular girls. In the end, Amy and her mother reconcile their differences and Amy chooses to be somewhere in the middle of the two extremes; herself, and she goes outside and the movie ends with her jumping rope in the street while wearing age-appropriate jeans and a long-sleeve t-shirt, and she's smiling and laughing. The movie went too far in portraying its events using real child actors; I can only imagine it has something to do with it being a French movie and Europe having a whole different culture around youth and sex than North America? But I've only ever lived in Canada so I can't say for sure. It was a disturbing movie that made me squirm and made me uncomfortable; it made me uncomfortable mostly because young girls trying to be sexy and be adults too early is so real. So many times I caught myself thinking "That's just like what happened at my middle school". Anyway, yeah, I only argue that it did have a point to make, but that the way that point was shown / portrayed with its young actors was too much.

This is a much better review than MrGirl's. Holy shit. Also I'm pretty sure most European cultures don't support the sexualization of children. In one of Mutahar's (SomeOrdinaryGamers') videos talking about this movie he said that he knows people from France and they're against it, or something like that. I also have friends that live in France and I've been meaning to talk to them about this movie and see what they think of it. I assume they're also going to be against it. Edit: I think it's this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKWwm2h9hdiCpJY (12:47 he talks about what I mentioned.) Also a while ago I talked to an internet friend of mine from Poland and he said that this movie and the marketing behind it are fucked up. He also said that France is the first country to ban child beauty pageants, so there's that.

You summed it up, and I did had those dumb moments as a kid but seeing the scenes and knowing these girls were directed to act that out is just irresponsable and disgusting (I have not seen the movie, only clips from reviews). Still think this movie missed the issues and just made it worse.
@Critiqu34 жыл бұрын
See when you summarize the ACTUAL plot, it's not a bad idea. The mother-daughter relationship and how they navigate femininity is compelling. For any girl that grew up way too early, it feels very familiar. It's relatable to an extent. The execution of that concept in this movie though? It's not good, and it distracts from the actual purpose of the movie I think. It's nothing more than a glorified exploitation flick with a budget.

Omosis Jones addresses the children wanting to do grown up things with far more delicate balance. A girl spends some time with her friends and they break out the make up and giggle as they paint her face. Then her sick father collapses and she has to go see him in a hospital bed, where he looks at her heavy makeup and in his delirium, thinks that she must have grown up and that she's an adult and will be fine on her own. She cries and her false eyelashes fall into a glass of water because she doesn't want to be grown up at all, she wants to be her own age and have a father who loves her.

sexualizing children in media has been around for a while. toddlers in tiaras is an example of this. they don't try to combat it, they just do their thing and dress up kids like grown-ups and put them in makeup. grade-a example of media trying to doll up kids for the sole purpose of them being attractive. responding to child sexualization in media by sexualizing children isn't how to combat this. it's disgusting that this has to be explained to some people. it should be common knowledge that contributing to a problem isn't solving it. sure, cuties brings up discussion points, but overall it's contributing to the whole "pedophilia is a sexuality" thing that pedos are trying to push on twitter. cuties is disgusting. the idea may have started with a good message, but the execution of that idea was god awful.
@Naniblah4 жыл бұрын
The whole thing is disgusting, the execution of the movie is terrible, there are ways to bring up that point without doing the thing that you are going against. And the whole "pedophilia is a sexuality thing" is so incredibly stupid, a child is not a sexual orientation and will never be, plus that a child CAN'T consent, so what they are trying to go for saying that pedophilia it's exactly like being homosexual it's dumb, because an homosexual relationship is between two people of the same sex who can consent, the idea that a kid can consent to something sexual that they can't understend is so creepy and disgusting, but then again.... What can we expect from twitter?

This is gross. I've seen people execute films that are an attempt to educate on issues. For example, ones on pedophilia should focus on child abuse, such as perhaps showing a child being groomed by an adult, with abuse implied in the execution, but not shown on screen. That example would not allow the audience to sexualise the children or normalise these actions, where this movie actively promotes these things. Don't show these things in a positive and attractive light, it encourages people!
