I second this. A break down of dried peppers would be awesome. To add on, I've been looking to grow kashmiri chilis (known for use in Indian food) for a long time yet I can't find the seed available online, only the dried pepper is available but it doesn't tell you exactly what pepper it is

@@judycee9263yes. I’ve also heard that cayenne is good for flakes. And if you let a jalapeño grow to full maturity (red) and then dry and smoke it, it’s a chipotle! Actually just learned that in Mexico the dried version of the fresh pepper sometimes has a different name. So a dried poblano is an ancho.

I grow Lesya peppers, from Ukraine as well; they are heart-shaped and turn red when ripe. My wife teases me because every year I'm always looking for different varieties to plant and get bored of the same old peppers, squash, beans, etc, often more interested in growing rare specimens than harvesting and eating. I like videos like this as they go well with scrolling through the seed pages during your annual seed sale and I picked some packets up this year that I'm excited to see in the garden next spring. I've grown several varieties of rare squash, some from your store, and look forward to eating them this winter. The green-striped cushaw is a sight to behold.

@growinglongisland, I had the same issue this year with what I believe are pepper maggots. Apparently they become a problem around the beginning of July and stay till about September. I read that an easy way to control them is using plant cover to keep their mature flys off the fruit. The fly will land on the fruit just as it starts to grow and punctures it and deposits an egg inside the fruit leaving a tiny hole that is difficult to see. The larvae then eats the pepper membrane till the fruit rots and falls to the ground where it can burrow into the ground till spring/summer to emerge as an adult fly and start over.

After college, I had the opportunity to work with the flower trial manager at the Pennsylvania home of fordhook lima beans. While we were working with flowers only, the trials contained samples of everything in the catalog, as you said, to check for consistency. There were also new varieties or similar varieties to what we sold to see how them compared. Vegetable trials were a separate part of the trials. Same kinds of things, making sure what we were selling was what it was supposed to be. Also part of the vegetable trials were breeding work being done by the trial manager. she was working with squash of various types. All of the trials were "blind" there was a master list with numbers assigned to the plants, but variety names were only listed in the master list so there was no chance to be biased by a particular breeder or source. some of the other comments suggesting seeing how they dry or other things would keep you busy. Enjoy, it is clear you are fascinated with peppers!

Most of the peppers are described by color... not many by taste or heat... & THAT is why we grow, for taste & texture, & Flavor. Color only adds to the dish. BTW, your vid on planting material, mulch, plant food was on the mark. I am transitioning to feeding more, watering more too... in a Mobil Home park, not too much space, but I plant... Thank you for your videos :-) I almost forgot... When I was going through my garden with my sister, me, CA her in MI, I found some green beans ready to ear when I was watering, so I did.... when you are looking at things in the garden ready to eat, Why not try them right then & there? I am sure I am not the only one thinking this...

I have dozens of different peppers that i grew from MIgardener, i found quite a few that did not produce the type of pepper the seed was supposed to be for. I'm pretty meticulous seed starting so i really don't believe i mixed up that many plants, but that might be what Luke experienced with the 'mix up' plants he showed. Regardless, i love their seed and am going to do test plantings of all the ones i have that didn't come out as expected to see if they really are the wrong seed. I'm getting ready to take pictures of all my plants, though, and do reviews on the website for them.

Zone 7B NJ. Your Jamaican Yellow variety is an absolute beast when it comes to production!! Unfortunately, I'm the only spicy pepper fan in my household, and I planted two plants in my raised bed. 😂 Luckily, my neighbors wife is from Thailand and she adores them -so I gifted them a large amount of my harvest as well as a pruned plant to overwinter for next spring. Sharing the bed with the yellow mushroom peppers were: -Local sourced (grocery store seedlings) cherry bomb peppers that had two good sized yields for stuffing. - MI Gardener California Wonder Bells that tasted amazing and produced pretty decently despite an overcrowded bed (gardener greed). -MI Gardener Purple Jalepeno: Great production but somewhat undersized. -MI Gardener Chocolate Striped Tomato: Still fruiting into the beginning of September. I'll be overwintering: 1 Bell, 2 Cherry bomb, 1 purple jalapeno for next year.

You are going to have more peppers than you can eat! You know what you should do? Host a pepper tasting event at your facility, interview people about how they taste, and do a video on it! I know I am going to want some of those Ukrainian peppers and also some of the other color changing Bell Pepper varieties! I'm also planning on getting the Giant Marconi and Jimmy Nardello to grow next time, as I love big red sweet peppers for stir fry and fajitas! I grew a few standard red bell pepper plants but wish I had planted as many of those as I did Jalapenos and Fresnos which are the only ones fruiting currently. My foliage for the Lavender, the Diamond, and red Bell peppers is about as tall as yours but they aren't fruiting yet. My weather has been back and forth the past week between the 80s and the 60s and 70s. I am finally getting fruit on my three varieties of cherry tomatoes. Not ripe yet, but they are multiplying and continuing to add new flowers. I'm really exited about the new deep purple variety I bought from Norfolk Healthy Produce company! The tomatoes on those are not ripe yet but loading up and more flowers are blooming on the oldest plant and there are 3 more plants I succession planted still getting taller and beginning to flower. My plan for those is to save as many seeds as I can and then next year try to cross pollinate with a slicer to create some nice meaty dark purple tomatoes.

So far, I've harvested about 60 peppers from them. Truly incredible. I also planted some large sweet red bell peppers and and one was attacked by insects, and had been damaged. I used it in a salad, and even not completely red, my salad was very delicious. I hope to harvest many more.

I have a pepper fetish and grow about 60 to 80 varieties each year. Every year I focus on peppers from a certain region. I've done Africa, The Middle East, Caribbean, South America and next year I'll either do Asia or Mexico and Central America ... this year I focused on India. I actually import seed from those areas. This year was a total bust because I had open heart surgery in April, so my garden went unattended. :( ONE thing I noticed, though, is when I had my THOUSANDS of seedlings (started in pro seed trays) the visiting mice would find the Jimmy Nardellos and the Kardoulas and eat them to stubs. Even if they were intermingled with other seedlings, they'd find them and eat them.

Luke makes a pepper video and I am chanting "eat the pepper, eat the pepper, eat the pepper!" 👩‍🌾🔥He ate the pepper!!!! 🎉 How cool would it be if you did a tasting with a few others to describe some of the peppers flavors or level of "meanness" 😂🔥🔥🔥 that would make a great video!

You can’t hide a Charapita from a seasoned Pepper enthusiest Luke! 😝 I grow mostly Aji types, but mostly the Baccatum Aji varieties. For the MI Gsrdener fans not as experienced with peppers, Aji is just a South American word for chilies, most Aji varieties are grown and native to Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, and Guyana. Luke carries Aji Lemon drop, I’d be super excited about other Baccatum varieties from his shop. Some Aji are Chinense like Aji Dulce, Aji Panca, and the deliciously infamous Aji Charapita! ❤❤❤

Wow! So many types! Those peppers had to be super hot to have you have such a reaction! They look so cute but wow what a punch they must have! I don't like spicy hot, so I won't be growing any of those for sure! Thank you for this fun video! I can't wait to hear more about your secret Ukrainian pepper!
