This is a great showcase of something that I think a lot of older players just excuse as part of the game. Sure, I love how the wiki is pretty much always up to date and super helpful, but the biggest struggle I've had when introducing this game to friends and family is the fact that part of the gameplay loop is Alt+Tab'ing to the wiki to be told where to go and what to do. This usually isn't a huge issue playing through the story (though the earlier story does have moments of confusion we needed to settle (Dry Top I'm looking at you)) but as soon as we try to go for skyscale or griffon, or if they want to start working on ad-infinitum or some of the mastery points around the world, its Alt+Tab time.

I hope Arenanet take this as a testament of THEY NEED TO DO SOMETHING about collection quests in the game and how unapproachable they have always been. That's the reason I have barely done any at all in the entire history of the game. It's a shame we're missing so much good lore and stories, because of this

I have to admit I stumbled on the plant fibres without looking for them, saw the collection symbol and was like 'what's this?'. Then I just used the wiki for the rest of the collection, because I knew straight away I was never going to be able to figure out any of the steps on my own.

i looooved this quest and doing it blind was so much fun to me, bu tI think I just learn differently perhaps, a friend and i in gendarran and in hrathi went all sorts of different ways and spitballed until one of us found it. I had the history, she had the cunning, between the two of us we had a whale of a time. With the echoing hills, my friend went for a bio break, and I went to Kessex hills thinking it could be there, but then when she got back she let me know when we'd logged off the previous night she remembered the POI being called echoing hills. I think there's just different types of questers, and that's ok!

I spent half an hour searching _everything_ around Sanguine Crater (especially its rivers), for these plant fibers. Gave up, followed the wiki, kept my sanity.

I actually like the collections being all about exploration and this is a problem also seen by another mmo all about ARGs and solving puzzles (Secret World), where players can look the wiki for the solutions. Tbh I know probably everyone just looks there anyway because there's so many of those and we just want to get it and not "spend time". But I also don't think the solution is only pointing right away where the NPC or thing you need to collect is. Maybe after clicking on the collection they would make a circle in the general area or something.

This. 90% of gw2 collections are meant to be approached like old school mmo stuff, you are meant to stop and take it all in as one would take in a world itself Yes, it doesnt always work, but I honestly like it a lot

This one and the kodan love side story def made me rage. Whoever writes the quests per step needs to solidify their wording as a simple "Do" or "Get" changes the connotation of the tasks and it got me so confused.

The inventor's clue makes perfect sense. Anyone in the colleges is a student. Thus it must be someone unaffiliated. There's an unaffiliated area on the map for apprentices. All Asuras are inventors by hobby at least and thus one who is so by profession must be an apprentice. Then again, I took one look at the Bearkin Shell Ascended item and recognised it as a really obscure reference to "Demolition Man," because "Does a bear shit in the woods?" and "How do the three shells work?" My mind makes strange connections quite easily. I think someone with a mind similar to mine made these.

Happy for you. But “making perfect sense” is a BOLD statement to make. You said it yourself: “All Asura are inventors by nature.” Now if the clue said “A place where apprentices gather” that would be a very different story.

I only got better at this as time went on as i got used to having to see the achievment icon to indicate i was in the right place. Once youve done the first sheep annoyance, the rest arent so bad. Problem is theyve been super inconsistent with the icons use over time

Damn, thanks for the quest guide and the laugh. Now I don't need to look for this and be frustrated myself. :D Also I think this collection is supposed to be obnoxiously tedious because you're doing iut to make a Quaggan doll. It might be intentionally obtuse as a form of meme humor.

The situation is different with the WIKI for GW2. I'm German and unfortunately I`ve to say from my many years of experience since 2012 that the German WIKI is often rubbish. The English WIKI is much more comprehensive and informative when it comes to the really important content or in the German WIKI there are sometimes no explanations at all for certain things and I'm glad that my English skills are sufficient for it. And as I said, the German WIKI doesn't have any detailed explanations for this "Build-a-Quaggan" quest. It only mentions that it exists under "Side Quests in the Wilds of Janthir", nothing more. In the English WIKI, however, the complete walkthrough is shown and described with in-game screenshots of each matching location.

Hey, I'm all here for some riddles and thinking for ACHIEVEMENTS... these really are side quests under the category of *Side Stories* and I really want to know the lore... not feel like I want to uninstall.

lol...this was funny. Im sorry KROOF but you would not have mentally survived the days of the original Star Wars Galaxies during the Jedi permadeath era.
