Great video. All the models in the exhibit were examined and/or restored by myself. I'm the official restorer for the Ray Harryhausen Foundation, which is a huge privilege. I worked for Ray in the last three years of his life, and I'm still working for his foundation today.

If you'd lived in my hometown, we'd have been sitting in either of the first three rows of the theater in 1963 as JASON & THE ARGONAUTS came on, and we'd be sitting, shivering under Telos as he started creeking and groaning. Now, we see that film brought back to local festivals every few years, and it's always a packed house. Absolutely jammed. I still think they could play it for weeks on end and a whole bunch of old retired fat-guys would be staring up. "Gawd - I can't see very well but it looks even scarier!!"

So far, nothing has yet been able to replace the BIG SCREEN. Improving the resolution, colorizing, editing, can make a OK film better, But it don't got the same impact as the big screen! Starting from 35mm & 60fps helps. This was done for I MAX, and it makes things more real.

Maan what a wonderful expo! I´m so jealous.. I was super lucky of see the master in person back in 2003 in a special screening of Earth vs. flying saucers here in Madrid, we didn´t expect he was to be there in flesh and bone so we didn´t had anything ready to ask him to autograph it, but fortunately a good friend of mine gave me the novel he was reading at that moment, 2010: odyssey two, and when came to mr. Harryhausen with it begging for an autograph with the first page open, (because there was a lot of white space there except for Arthur C.Clarke´s name...) he saw that, he laughed and asked me, "You know I´m not this guy, right?" and then kindly autograph it, and now I have this page framed in front of me.

I remember seeing this exhibition advertised and was gutted I couldn’t make it. So glad you managed to cover this. Harryhausen and Jim Henson are my childhood. I managed to see the Dark Crystal exhibition in London, it really does blow you away when you see the original puppets in real life. Hopefully I’ll see a Harryhausen original someday. Awesome video Theo, you can really see how much this experience meant to you 👏 Gwangi and the Sinbad films were definitely my faves as a kid, so much magic in those films and creatures

I’ve been having a deep dive into stop motion cinema after picking up the RoboJox, Arena box set @@slimehousetv digging out my Harryhausen books and magazines and watching interviews I hadn’t seen for a long time so this video popped up as a recommendation. So pleased you filmed this although I’m even more gutted I never got to see in person 😂 another thing as I know you’ll be into this, have you preordered the David Allen Primevals film from Full Moon Studios. If you didn’t back the original kickstarter it’s available at Umbrella Entertainment in Australia, hopefully out in August, it looks amazing!

Medusa or the Hydra might be Harryhausen's very best creatures. Animating the snakes in Medusa's hair and the many heads of the Hydra had to be unbelievably difficult.

Nautilus is original. Al Friswell restored that and many others for the Harryhausen estate. I met Ray and his long time producer Charles Schneer at a talkshow TV studio in 1977 when they were promoting Eye of the Tiger. I was able to have a friend video tape the show on a reel to reel video recorder.

Trog and Mighty Joe Young are my favorite Harryhausen creatures. Not sure if Mighty Joe counts officially. Might have been created by Willis Obrien but I consider Mighty Joe a Harryhausen creature since he animated him. I hope someday Xplus or some other company makes a Trog figure from the Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger movie. Both Trog and Mighty Joe had such great human like personality. Harryhausen was great at giving his monsters personality.
