_"I don't know any other plugin that can do this"_ About a million other plugins, lol, people have been doing this for a long time, it's a very straightforward process, distort - to taste - the signal above a certain frequency, then stereo-ize the result, leaving the original low frequencies centred. There's a dozen different ways of doing any of these steps, none of them complicated - and it sounds identical to the results in this video, rich, deep, wide mono-compatible low-end. P.S. they do a free version of this plugin too, sounds nice.

OK I had to look into this a bit because I saw it again. I ran tests recording your test and noticed that the plugin adds 8dB-3dB of average gain. Sort of like how a limiter achieves this by limiting peaks. So the initial A/B test is flawed considerably. Next, indeed as I expected it doesn't roll off the stereo effect as it gets into sub frequencies, so it will mess your mono mix channel. At minimum you should roll off any stereo on a bass this low below 120hz. I personally start rolling off around 200hz typically. So, really what this is is a plugin that changes the waveshape in each channel in a small way, but which becames audible as a fake stereo spread. But it then does some compression/limiting type stuff on top. If you use it as a blackbox to experiment with bass and then maybe fix up the low end issues it messes with, then you can get something servicable. But in most cases you can do the same with plenty of existing software and maintain mix control.
@DomSigalas2 жыл бұрын
8db? That was not the case- what is the moment when you see that increase? I also did an A/B in the video with level matching. Also it doesn’t add low end so gain increase is definitely not that drastic. You can see it on my meters.
@gulagwarlord2 жыл бұрын
I've been referencing a lot of chart topping tracks lately and none of the big producers are doing that. There is a good amount of stereo information even all the way down to 40 hz and below. Obvious the subs are still mostly mono, but not completely. The whole "cut the lows and boost the highs on the sides" thing is such bad advice in my opinion, which is just that, an opinion. It always makes for a thin and brittle effect to my ears. Referencing other tracks is the best bet.
@sibbyeskie2 жыл бұрын
@@gulagwarlord I don't think you have the experience to understand the advice. There's a reason the bass is kept mono. You can research it but part of it has to do with how easy you can get phase cancellation and artifacts that easily leads to a loss of bass energy, but there are plenty of other reasons. There is no reason to have A lot of mixing mistakes are made in pop music. From over-limited to improperly handing side channels. A lot of music is being pumped out today with little care to detail and passing through inexperienced hands. Don't mistake that for it vouching for a particular technique.
@sibbyeskie2 жыл бұрын
@@DomSigalas I submitted a screenshot of my testing that shows the gain difference in the sustain of your A/B test. It averages 4-5dB but fluctuates between 3db-8dB difference. Either you didn't approve the comment because of the link or it was flagged as spam. But in any event your metering technique isn't good here because it is just looking at peak level rather than average loudness when you disregard the peaks. This is of course how limiters determine how loud a track can get at the final stage, and is primarily determined by the RMS of the bass, so it's significant.
@DomSigalas2 жыл бұрын
@@sibbyeskie submitted it where? KZbin doesn’t allow for links by default neither screenshots. Instead of trying to disprove me using audio *after* KZbin’s encoding try the demo for yourself. :) And read the manual. This is a complex tool-you have to understand how it works. Also have a look at the people that worked on and tested this plug-in. Then make an informed decision and make up your mind. I don’t point a gun to your head asking you to buy this. I have no agenda and I don’t get a single penny if you buy it or not. People’s obsession with RMS without using their ears in the context of a mix is a big issue. Use it in a mix. Make up your mind. Simple. :)

@RJ1J2 жыл бұрын
Is there any other plugins, or collection of plugins, that can replicate this? Izotope + UAD?
@DomSigalas2 жыл бұрын
The closest effect would be: -Duplicate the mono channel -Add saturation to it (this is the most important thing which saturator your going to add) -follow with a low cut filter at 100-200hz -add delay from left/right channel with the haas effect (stereo imagers won’t work as the signal is still mono) - play with the delay times until it makes sense and doesn’t introduce issues -add a compressor before the delay to make sure things don’t go out of control when adding the saturation - double check If some low end has escaped with an analyser (just for the parallel signal) and add another filter if required. That’s just a very crude guide- the great thing with this plug-in is that it’s already optimised to do all this in a way that works pretty much most of the time :)

Isnt this the same as using Izotope Ozone 10 Imager (the one were you can control stereo image in bands)? Theres an option so you can stereoize mono signals
@DomSigalas Жыл бұрын
No, not really. For sub and low frequencies, stereoizing (which in this case means adding a sort of haas effect) is a recipe for disaster). What this does is it generates harmonics and spreads them by leaving the low end mono and intact. Watch the whole video and you will see what I mean :)
@yikayikayika Жыл бұрын
@@DomSigalas No I understand that! But izotope imager (advanced, not the free one) you can split by bands. @@yikayikayika no it won’t be the same :) izotope will split the bands but it cannot generate harmonics and spread them while keeping the sub mono compatible. Very crude guide: 1. Send your bass to a parallel chanel 2. Add a saturation plugin- be careful with your choice there 3. Add a filter after this 4. Add a delay replicating the HAAS effect (I've done a video on this!) 5. Check for any subs that might have escaped the filter with an FFT 6. Add another filter if necessary 7. Compress the parallel channel if the harmonics get out of hand 8. Blend to taste That's just one of the methods ;)
