Since it has USB4 ports, you should make a thunderbolt eGPU enclosure with a water cooled GPU in it that supplements this mini pc. Just throwing a cool idea out there.

@@ZacBuildsHi! Sorry this reply is 9 months late, I also enjoy tinkering with stuff sometimes, and im interested in building a PC into a Wii U to run Gamecube, Wii, Wii U games, and more (through legal dumping), any suggestions on what to use, info for me to know, what preparations to have, etc? The reason I want to do this is to do something unique, and I thought I would ask you with all the stuff I have seen on the channel

A measuring tip: get a printer scanner, lay the board horizontal (can't let it be sideways with components) and use the image as a backdrop of the design software. You can then take some reference measurements to scale the image properly and more easily sketch around stuff, measuring as you go to make sure things match. Taking a picture with a coin works well for more complicated stuff, but it's more prone to error due to angles and field of view.

Love the video, my only complaint is that the minisforum um690 is almost $715 USD. At that price point, you can probably build an itx pc and go from there. Sure, this already has the “parts” put together, but it’s just a lot for a “DIY” build. Love the wood working elements. Might try that part on an itx board and an off the shelf agpu

Trust me I tried costing this out as an ITX build and by the time you get everything you need you end up being just as expensive and your foot print is significantly larger.

Protip: anything that's flat you can drop in a flatbed scanner to use as a reference to place holes very accurately. Could have made more form-fitting port holes if you can keep the board propped up on a scanner long enough Works well with 3D printed parts but probably better not to cut the wood down super thin to get proper clearance on the plugs, and definitely better not to countersink acrylic that thin.

Starting to let the intention to build to the best of your ability and the highest quality slip a bit.. Not complaining but its more inspiring and no doubt would be more fulfilling and successful for you if if you continue to push yourself, I was shocked you even attempted the wire bundle and the fan solution was lazy. This PC is nice enough to deserve the lil attention to splice a wire off the power supply and install a switch or speed control, you could route a switch into the wood for example. I love your builds. Most people watch to see how far it can be perfected, keep improving keep it up. Again Im not complaining, its just that you have put everything into this way of life and are a pro youtuber so I am guessing you may agree, or not.. lol

Nice look, also a neat extra, with USB 4 you can use an external GPU Box and make the system even faster if you want to, pretty much turning it into a legit high end PC gaming rig. There are tons of options now for them and they work really well with the newer Ryzen APUs. And, as a bonus, if you are gonna use this portable, you can leave the external GPU attached to wherever your main Monitor is and move the rest of the machine around nearly plug and play. I agree with a lot of the posters too, grab Big Box, the paid version of Launch box. It's worth the small amount paid and gives you even more flexibility.

I think it would be nice to use brass mesh on the fan sides so that when you intake air it helps filter out the larger dust particles. It will also add a bit of class to the somewhat bland look of the hexagonal holes. Give it an "old radio" aesthetic. You could also use cloth or screen door material of you wanted a different look.

Cool build, Zac! I love this everything console series. I think the integration of walnut adds a lot of aesthetic to the computer. Just a small gripe I had is that Moore's Law is actually dead. We can no longer double the number of transistors on a chip every two years due to physical limitations. The transistors are giving more issues than solutions when you shrink them down past a certain size. The technology is there to make them smaller, but due to a little thing called Quantum Physics you can't get a good transistor. Fortunately, people are researching ways of overcoming physics with molecular electronics (one example) being proposed as an alternative. Essentially, molecules (much much smaller than the smallest transistor currently) can be used as transistors. Currently, there is no real success in this venture apart from a select few molecules. I apologise for this little rant. I did my PhD in nanochemistry and know several researchers doing molecular electronic research. So, everytime I hear about Moore's Law I pay closer attention. (I know this is a me problem) I know this was also at the very beginning of the video and I know you jokingly said it too. I did watch through to the end and very much enjoyed the build and your design process.
@ZacBuilds
@ZacBuilds Жыл бұрын
Oh don't worry, I 100% agree with you. Moores law is dead and I say it to people all the time. The exponential growth of technology through the 80s 90s and early 2000s is a thing of the past and I'm sad to see it go. I remember being a kid and having a computer that was 2 years old was basically a relic. These days a 5 year old computer is still serviceable. As you said were running up against the limits of physics. I was just being silly and joking around in the intro
@matthysloedolff

@@ZacBuilds exactly! Funny thing also is that one of the big things Moore regretted the most was people using his hypothesis/quote and naming it after him. I also just want to be clear, I'm was also not trying to have a go at you. I simply have mild compulsive corrective issues at times haha. I really like the content you make too and appreciate the less click-batey titles when compared to Eric's recent trend. (I know KZbin and the algorithm rewards click-bate)

I was just gonna post this, additionally, if pencil would be too much time, you could also use spray paint for a better contrast. Then, to get those measurements digitally, scan that stencil from a printer or phone, then, convert that into a real measurement based off of th scan size.

See I like emulation... For everything 16bit and below. Because the entire library of a consoles games consist usually of a couple of gigabytes worth of data that's easily accessible. Everything cd based so 32 bit onwards. Your talking, huge amounts of data storage required for a complete library for any given system. Not to mention you've got to sped the time rifling through the Internet looking for bits and pieces sporadically because there's no such thing as a complete Dreamcast library source, or saturn or ps1 or on and on library out there. So you trawl through dodgy website after dodgy website, pursuing the way back machine riding by the seat of your pants trying to find one version of one game that might work once you download at 5kb a second cos you don't have a paid membership to this or that downloading service and test it... Will it work... Mate it ain't worth the hassle for anything beyond 16bit. Much easier to buy the game and play it on the console which you can probably buy for 40quid

Amazing! This video got me so excited about retro gaming - I spent all night consolidating all my emulators into LaunchBox which you can boot into a BigBox shell (don't even need to see windows). A great setup if you have a dedicated emulator PC. Thanks for the vid man!

Can we just add the fact that for this setup, one would need to purchase another copy of windows, adding about $200 to the cost. The advantage to other emulator projects is they use free, community based, open source OS and software such as Linux.

Question, do the games come with audio files too? For example Tony Hawk's pro skater has music from established bands.

I have a slightly older minisforum micro PC similar to that one and it works brilliantly. Too bad I just don't have the woodworking skills to go along with a nice case upgrade like this :)

Huge ask, could you give a part list? The everything console is known as a DIY emulator, but these parts are kind of hard to identify, I'm not the best with PCs.

While it is a gorgeous build, having it oriented on its side could be an issue because of the liquid metal heat sink. PS5s run into an issue where the cpu will burn itself out because the liquid metal will pool on one side. This happens because of the advertised orientation of the console that most people use. This might be something you wanna consider.

I would rather spend the $500 I was going to use to upgrade my pc on a ps5 just the for exclusives. The ones I want to play have not made it to pc yet. Then Wolverine and Rise of the Ronin

Man you need to practice using a drill, those legs are wonky af. Rest of the build looks good though, that usb cable sticking out could surely have used a 90° to keep it tidy.

Yes it is, by a good margin. It's got more than twice the power budget, and the CPU cores are from the next generation. That being said the iGPU is similar, though clocked faster in the EC MK3. It's similar in power to the latest Ayeneo system. However it's got more cooling and power to play with. And the CPU is clocked slightly faster.

Love how you've future proofed it but with how secure the Xbox one is I doubt there will ever be an emulator made for it :) (since there have been jailbreak for the PS4 there is a possibility they can make an emulator for it)
Your Xbox is now obsolete...
