This takes more than compassion... I'm not sure if this guy is magical or what, but I think I can confidently advise all readers, _be really careful trying to pick up a large bird of prey!_ Probably a bad idea to try it at all. This bird's reaction is not typical and they can hurt you (and themselves) pretty bad if they're scared!

@davehenderson6125 probably just malnourished. This is a second year bald eagle by its color. They end up fighting with other males for resources and get thin or if it ate any fish with lead in it from folks fishing with lead weights. We have a whole protocol for lead toxicity too. It's something I didn't think about for years, but everytime you go fishing and cut your line and leave that lead in the water or in a fish's mouth, you leave toxin that ends up in a predators. You can buy leadless weights now for fishing. Then if this eagle was out in the water, it could only swim so far (yes it can swim some!) and becomes further exhausted. They can drown.

Yes I was very worried. And when he was let go you could visibly see his excitement and sheer joy. I have rescued and fostered lots of critters, but never a large bird like this. Thanks for doing such a special job❤

God bless you. I was a raptor rehab for many years. You can tell it had a possible head injury because you didn't have a hold of its legs for talon control. I'm glad you were there for the release; good feeling that you saved it!!
