The RG280V is a great portable device. It feels nice and solid. I got the Adam image running on mine. Anbernic as a whole makes really great products. However, I recently got a device called the Miyoo Mini and it can play pretty much everything as well as the RG280V, if not better. I tested the arcade version of Altered Beast on the RG280V and there was some stuttering, but on the Miyoo Mini there wasn't any.

I have the RG300X, and prefer it's horizontal layout. Also, you need to upgrade the firmware. Adam Image is where it's at.

I have the RG280M and it’s a perfect way to play Back up Game Gear and Gameboy games with the occasional PS1 thrown in there. The newer Ambernic systems have been losing their way though. Their performance hasn’t grown as much as their price, and at those levels GPD and Odin are possibly better options.

How comfortable to play on is it, though? Having the controls right at the bottom of the device like that makes me think I'd get hand cramps in pretty short order.

I really like the Anberbic 280v, but it's a bit too uncomfortable for me. I prefer the RG351P, or the RG300X (which has the added bonus of having a GB Micro asthetic, to it, too). You should try a couple of those, they're cool.

Right now the Powkiddy RGB10 is my daily carry. It's small but not too small and has the same hardware as the RG351P.

Steam/GOG files will or won't play on this? The Dos box thing is interesting... I had a hard time mounting DOS BOX on my desktop. Since this is already pre-loaded you just grab game files and play? This seems really interesting. I usually don't pay attention to rom/emulation handhelds. If you have hard copy cd files or game files if this is loaded on an SD card assuming with an adapter will it work on this?

Apparently it plays MSX games, which is nice. Metal Gear, Metal Gear II, and tons of other Konami games. If it can handle multi disk games I might pick one up. Thanks for the review John!

It can you just need to tinker with it. It plays Amiga games, so MSX shouldn’t be an issue

Solid choice. Not very pocketable. Miyoo mini is great and plays like 99.9% flawlessly. There's quite a bit out there that does ps1. Even the powkiddy v90/q90 Is decent for ps1 in my opinion. I play jrpgs and don't notice too many issues on the powkiddy. Just depends on how much you want to spend.
