Hard to imagine that this was the site of one of the most brutal civil wars in modern history. The Sri Lankan war was one of the very few wars in history that did not end in a cease fire and negotiated settlement, but rather a total analiation of the loosing faction. After more than 40 years of fighting on and off, through numerous ceasefires and close victories for both sides, so much distrust had built up on both sides that a peace agreement became impossible. It is really a tragic piece of history. It's so nice to see happy locals and things have moved on. I can understand the military presence as the war was so recent. Glad You have found a beautiful place to wait out the smoggy Delhi winter months. With luck you will be home soon. Take care and relax

The military presence in this video is mainly due to the Chinese official that visited Jaffna at that time. Otherwise generally there is not too much military presence (there is military presence but not like everywhere, only in important places)

Jaffna didn't see 40 years of war. It was in governmental control since 1995

@@starrynight43451 there was a big battle on the jaffina peninsula in 2006. Either way, having a war surrounding a city can't be too settling. Pretty tragic overall for such a beautiful place with wonderful friendly people.

I went around this time years back and there was no wetland so obviously it has rained a lot recently. As someone of Ceylonese origin I’m very happy you’re enjoying Jaffna and promoting its tourism 👍🏼😃 I also really like the fact you went to the north first rather than the promoted places like Kandy and Galle.

Yes the beach where Karl was , has really strong waves , the locals know hot to swim there but as a foreigner I wouldn’t try. I’m a good swimmer but even I didn’t tried that .

@KarlRock It is great seeing you out and about on 2 wheels. (My passion is Motorbikes) I can feel to a degree how your feeling riding along those awesome wetlands and seeing the sights along the way. So much to see that even if you Vlogged daily for hours, we would not see it all. This is on my list of places to visit one day. Reminds me of Malta to some degree but also Trinidad with the fishing boats that they go out very early in the morning to catch their fish. I know Manisha can't be with you all the time, but so really hope that you can bring her along to some of these places you are visiting, so we can see you both together again. Coming from a fellow gamer and travel lover I find it so interesting you still finding time to get that halo campaign, I know before you mentioned being interested in the next gen consoles(My favorite two episodes are the touring gaming stores in India and Pakistan!)
