My sister was dating a man who was from Laos. He was a really cool dude. He really loved the 1970s, music. Especially disco. His musical taste seemed to be stuck from that decade. He went to a record store. I think it was a Sam Goody store. I think it was right around the holiday season of 1986, maybe early 1987. He had just heard the song Nobody's Fool. He wanted the single. The store didn't have it. So he bought the album Night Songs. He loved the album, and from that moment forward. He not only became a Cinderella fan, but a hard rock/heavy metal fan. We also became pretty good friends. He was definitely my sister's favorite boyfriend, for me. He promised to take me to a Cinderella concert. They came to Seattle with Bon Jovi in 1987, he took my sister of course. About a year later they broke up. In 1989, he called me on my birthday. He wished me Happy Birthday. Asked me how I was doing. He said he has tickets to the Cinderella,Bulletboys,Winger, concert next month in Spokane. You want to go with me? I am like fuck yeah. It was awesome. He was a great guy. He was like a big brother to me. He and my sister only dated for about a year. He was so cool to me. He told me he always felt bad, about not taking me to the first concert, back in 87. His current girlfriend at the time, couldn't understand why he was talking his ex girlfriend's brother to a concert, and not her. We had a great time. Two months later in August,he was killed in a motorcycle accident. His parents called and told me about it. They wanted me to come to funeral. Their son, Pytoon, would have wanted me there. It was the first funeral I ever went to. I was a fat chubby kid. Who older kids always picked on. I was a loner, and felt like a weirdo. This young man, from another country, halfway around the world. Treated me like family. I will forever be grateful to him. Every time Nobody's Fool comes on the radio. I think of him.

Cinderella came through Mojave, CA, on their way to shoot the video for "Don’t Know What You Got (Till It’s Gone)", at Mono Lake. They had stopped at Carl's Jr., my brother was there and he called me and I hauled ass down there. I got there just as they were getting back on the tour bus, I had my Night Songs cassette and I handed it to the driver and they all signed it, minus Fred. I still have that cassette to this day! Such a Great band!

I was stationed at an Air Force base in Japan in the late '80s. We were at the edge of the world and end of the supply line. When a new shipment of stateside stuff came in, it was immediately grabbed up. I was in a little on-base convenience market late one afternoon and the CD rack was almost empty after the latest supply run. I was looking for some new music. The rack had a couple of country and adult contemporary offerings and there, hidden on the bottom shelf, one last copy of Long Cold Winter. I'd never heard of Cinderella, but I bought it anyway. I took it home and gave it a listen. Then, I turned it up and really LISTENED! Loved it then; still love it today.

Cinderella was so underappreciated because of the hairband stereotype and the snobbery of the more hardcore metal fans. Last Mile, Coming Home, Heartbreak Station, Gypsy Road, and so many more deserve respect.

Yes, the hairband stereotype which you're little glammies worked closely with their stylist (presumably Bronson Pinchots character from Beverly Hills Cop) to INTENTIONALLY BRING ABOUT. If possessing the taste to reject these guys... girls... whatever makes me a Metal Elitist than I proudly embrace the title. As do Scott Ian, James Hatfield, Dave Mustain and many others who's "elitist" music will actually still be a relevant topic of cultural conversation hundreds of years from now. That's what I think of your "Give em' a chance... Their actually a blues band" has beens who were quite finished by the time Grunge showed up to sterilize the rest of their co conspirators from rock culture, and yes, rock HISTORY. So there. I'll give you this though...a grown ass man talking publicly about his love for Cinderella indicates that you do possess (counter intuitively) some big balls.

I was stationed in Korea from 87 to 88 and we would all hang out at the Korean clubs to hear the latest music. When the local DJ got a bootleg of "Coming Home" and started showing it on the large projection screen TV behind the bar it became the most requested song at the club! The 80's was the BEST music decade in my opinion to date and Cinderella was a quintessential part of the rock scene at the time. Sure, they caught some flack due to their looks, but you can't argue with the end result.

He, as well as all of them, are also exveedingly good guys (well, Jeff was before he got called Home). I opened for them at a local rock club (when there were "didn't you used to be?"). Having done so for numerous bands that "used to be", I expected the typical pissed off, arrogant "rock star" attitude. They were the coolest cats around. We all hung out after (which NEVER happens, and they were hugely complimentary and even offered some suggestions for us to be better..... You can't say anything bad to me.

The night my Friends and I went to see Cinderella, Bulletboys, and Winger in my little hamlet was one of the most fun nights of my Life...sold out (7500 capacity), and EVERYONE I knew seemed to be there...I have so many stories revolving around Cinderella and their songs...good times!

I saw that tour too!. I remember Cinderella opened with "Bad Seamstress Blues" which is a bold choice starting out slow blues acoustic. I remember the descending grand piano starting out the song "Don't Know What You Got..." Descending from the top near the lights and coming down as he played. What a spectacle!!!! And I remember Bulletboys singer opened with the chant "One, Two...F You!" lol. ----What I cannot remember was the date. Late 88? '89? I wish I could remember.

One of my earliest MTV memories is when they were holding a contest, something to do with Cinderella. The commercial had those 2 girls in polka dot dresses and sunglasses, and they said something like "WE'RE going to the Cinderella concert! Are you?" Couple years after that I saw their video for "Shelter Me" on MTV, and I bought the cassette tape of Heartbreak Station. Always loved the song "The More Things Change" from that album.

My husband and I had the pleasure to see Cinderella in the 2002 Hollyweird Tour, along with Poison, Winger and Faster Pussycat. I have been a BIG fan of Cinderella since the 80s and finally saw them for the first that night live❤❤❤. Tom Keifer’s voice and stage presence were MAGNETIC! Born in 73. Absolutely loved Bad Seamstress Blues (Fallin Apart At The Seams). This band was one of the few of that era who could successfully blend hard rock with a strong dose of blues and sound so good. Blues music is the base of a lot of hard rock/heavy metal and Cinderella was tremendous at taking the roots of the music and bringing out the emotional aspects of what the music was all about: feeling good, frustration, self-preservation, anger, and at the same time hope for a better future.

I started seeing this band at smaller clubs in the Philadelphia suburbs in their early days. They sounded just as SHARP live as they did in the studio. And they were truly nice guys. In fact, I still have the wedding favor Jeff Labar gave to everyone who attended his wedding in 1990 - a miniature porcelain Cinderella slipper with their names engraved on it. I miss him. But their music endures!

Tom Keifer was a lot like Brian Johnson of AC/DC or Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin. A unique sound that was signature, you knew the very second who was singing those songs because it was original and not just another rehash of the same thing everyone else was doing for the past 20 years before.

Bon Jovi did a lot more for them than you mentioned. He took them on tour to open up and they had a huge following after that. Introducing them to the world, and having them be part of the Moscow music piece festival in Russia. Tom has an amazing voice that doesn’t get the attention it deserves. And his playing ability on many instruments. So there is a lot you didn’t cover about them. And Night songs was one of their best imo. And listen to the blues feeling on Long cold winter- just awesome.

One of my fondest memories of Cinderella was when my brother and I were watching the music Peace Festival from Moscow back in 89 and Tom Keifer was doing the intro to Gypsy Road and we were completely mesmerized. I get chills to this very day watching him blare out those vocals on the intro. To this very day I still try to match those vocals every time I hear it, it gives me chills every time.

Take Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan can sing very well, but it wasn't until he started the "Dylan affect" that he started making big waves.

I still listen to Cinderella to this day! Especially the first album “Night Songs”. The videos were great and funny at the same time. The riffs in “Somebody Save Me”, “Hell on Wheels”, or “Once around the ride” are all just awesome. The last two are ones you have to know the album to have heard them. Anyway, later stuff was just as awesome. Especially “Bad Seamstress Blues” was an excellent track. I watched them open for Bon Jovi in Knoxville TN, during the “Slippery When Wet” tour. I wasn’t a Bon Jovi fan, but had to go to be the sort of chaperone for my big sister ( she was 15 at the time ) and her boyfriend and future husband. I was 13 at the time, and was a Cinderella fan, as a guitar guy myself, I saw the video showing Tom and Jeff picking each other’s necks while fretting their own. It just blew me away at the talent there. Then they spun the guitars around their necks, too cool! I tried it with my Fender Strat HM soon after. I about knocked myself out lol. I didn’t know about strap locks at the time, but boy did I learn the hard and painful way! Anyway, they came out opening for Bon Jovi. They were absolutely perfection. It was so tight and close to the tape, it was so impressive. I’d been to several shows of all types before and a lot lot lot more after. I’ve never heard anyone sound that close to the album, except for maybe ZZ Top. But, it was live as you could tell it wasn’t lip sync as it would have been really hard to do at that time and be that perfect. Cinderella was so good, then Bon Jovi came out and…ruined the show lol. They sounded okay, but Jon sounded like he had inhaled all the helium in the area before coming out. They must spend so much time on him in the studio! Anyway, they’re great!

I was lucky enough to see Cinderella back then, when they were touring pubs in the northeast. In a little 200 capacity pub on the outskirts of a project. Twisted Tuesday was my regular night out. No cover and 30 vent draught. The bands were booked Tuesday to Saturday. No one had ever heard of Cinderella. But, by Saturday, you couldn't get near the club. They were so far ahead of the usual in that club. We all left that Tuesday night in awe of what we'd been treated to there.

I can't say your video took me down memory lane, only because I've never stopped listening to Cinderella. I left junior high school in 86, being a fan of DJ jazzy Jeff and the fresh prince, run DMC, NEW EDITION,etc. I dressed up as much as my or budget would allow I started high school in 86 wearing denim with band buttons and bananas in the back pocket of my torn Levi's. Nobody's Fool was the catalyst. I finally saw them mid 90s, in a converted skating rink made into a bar called slammers. I still have Jeff Labars pick from that show. It's one of my favorite possessions.

Hey, I produced a show with these guys in 96-97, 900 seat club, of all the shows I produced during this time, Tom Kiefer, was stuck in the "I'm a rock star mode", and hey I get it, I've done several shows with big bands of the past,( Ratt, Blue Oyster Cult, Slaughter,etc. ..) , but this guy's attitude almost made me cancel the show, cause I couldn't make him happy,...(Jus him), rest of the band we're awesome and grateful for the attention to detail. Loved this Band--I agree, so underrated(IMO). I saw them as opening act for Bon Jovi in Oklahoma City. I was a young Teacher/Coach in Moore(OK) and left school during my Lunch Hour to go to Sound Warehouse(one of OKC's Main Record Stores), and the Boys were there to sign autographs. I got their autographs and used it as a "Reward"😊 for the Kids in my 9th Grade History Class. They were great guys to meet.

Cinderella was a great band, I think they suffered a bit of an identity crisis, they looked like most "hair bands" of their day but the music was more roots rock and blues oriented. I first saw them opening act (forgot who) and they rocked. I saw Tom Keifer with his band a few months ago, still rocking hard.

They did have an identity crisis!! Quiet Riot was on Solid Gold several times in the mid to late 1980’s and playing at county fairgrounds and festivals and opening for other hair bands and hard rock bands!! Cinderella was not on anyone’s radar. Once Quiet Riot faded out,Cinderella moved to the front somewhat.

Tom was one of my "gateway drugs" into the blues (along with AC/DC, Colin James, Jeff Healey & Stevie Ray Vaughan). Especially their 2nd album which opened with Bad Seamstress Blues which segues into my favourite track on the album, Gypsy Road. One of my fondest early concert memories was going to see Bon Jovi in Calgary when they first started headlining for Slippery When Wet (I had seen them opening for Judas Priest a few months earlier in Edmonton, just before Slippery was released and took over the rock world), and Cinderella opened. You could tell that they were good friends - Bon Jovi's encore had the full Cinderella band coming out on stage with them and they jammed multiple songs together... both full bands. I think that is the only time I have seen that.

Cinderella was one of my favorite hair bands. I saw them at a concert at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in NH about 12-13 years ago and it was one of the most incredible nights. It was all general admission there and I ended up standing off to the side. I was blown away by how incredible they still sounded! Definitely a highlight of my life!

I was graduating high school in 1987 and went to an outdoor show featuring Bon Jovi, with opening acts Smithereens and Cinderella. Smitheeens opened and were quickly booed off the stage. Then Cinderella took the stage and absolutely killed it! Bon Jovi was horrible after that performance. Cinderella was amazing that night.

Tom is definitely a distinctive singer from that era. I have a personal connection to one of the members of Cinderella. Jeff LaBar (RIP 😢) was our camp counselor at a rock camp I participated in. (2019) Not only did I get to hang out and jam on stage with him at two different venues in Nashville, but one day Jeff and I drove around town in his new car while he played me some of his recent original music. He’s driving down the streets of Nashville, music blasting and head banging. (Thankfully we didn’t have a wreck) it was wild. A memory I’ll never forget. (I have part of it on video…how could I not tape that moment) Many more memories from this once in a lifetime experience….but Jeff being part of it fits your story here. Plus my name is Fred, his drummer in Cinderella was Fred 🥁🥁🤘 Looking forward to if you get to interview Tom. He’s still performing with his band. What a voice. Again RIP Jeff Thanks for the memories.

man i loved that band , high school and college. finally had a chance to see them live in the 2010's and was shocked how bad they were. tom couldn't sing . by the last tune he warmed up and sounded decent. took a gamble and saw tom last summer.... 2023. mother of god he sounded amazing. i left shocked. so happy i went. old songs sounded great. new songs were cool and he again was a rock star.... if you get a chance to see him..... go!!

I saw Cinderella & Bon Jovi in Alpine Valley WI in 1986 ( or 87) ... It was my first Concert I had just started playing Guitar and I remember Jeff playing a solo while the band took took a break and it blew my mind! Between the movie Crossroads and this 1st Cinderella show, I knew I wanted to play Guitar... 37 years later I'm still playing and still love that first album... Although I would quickly fall to the Dark Side and embrace Thrash and Death Metal in 1987... But Cinderella really helped start it all.

I graduated in May of 1986 and heard of Cinderella that summer. I bought the cassette when the album was released and literally played that cassette all the time. To this day I have several songs in my playlist. I did get to see them here in July of 2000 along with Dokken, Slaughter and Poison. That was a great night.

Cinderella’s music means So much to me because my brother and I both loved them, still do of course. So many unappreciated songs never released as singles, plus Tom is amazing on stage during Shelter Me when he goes from guitar to saxophone. It’s my favorite part of their shows.

I was at the 1988 Texas Jam. (Kingdom Come - Metallica - Dokken - Scorpions - Van Halen) The show technically opened with the first listen of the entire Long cold Winter album before the bands started taking the stage. Have loved Cinderella ever since.

I remember seeing a Cinderella video on MTV and I couldnt get that album fast enough. I was actually on vacation and I had to find a record store in that state. Listened to it my whole vacation and then had to worry about it making it safely home in my suitcase through a flight back home. When I met the man who is now my husband I had a Cinderella shirt on. A few months ago I bought a LARGER version of the same shirt Saw Tom Keifer Band this year. He's still got it

I had just lost the love of my life when I saw the Nobody's Fool video and I happened to be a "Hair band" super fan so I fell in love with the song and the album the next day after I bought the cassette, which was the high tech for car stereo's then and my stereo was the star of my car... not electric cars that will make you bald when you floor it .. if you have the balls. Must have loved it if I remember it as I'm almost 60 and still listening to it! 🖤💯💔

Bruh , I’m so glad I caught this episode because I have been preaching for years that Cinderella was the most underrated and forgotten by many . Oh and you said it spot on about Tom’s voice. No one I’ve heard to this day can do it. Brian Johnson, similar but not as high or as much inflection. Sorry I have just waited so long to hear it from someone. I feel validated lol. I actually saw Tom doing club venues in 2012 or there about in San Antonio and I knew about all the surgeries but he could still put it up there when the moment came . It was a really cool show. I used to blast Gypsy Road like nobody else”s peace mattered and that song to me really shows how much power Tom wielded from the stage ( Live in Moscow) Sorry again for going on about it and Thanks for what you do.

Agreed. Saw them a couple of times and ultimately as the headliner with Tangier & White Lion. I will always remember that white piano for Don't know what you got... still one of my favorites. Tom Keifer's voice is perhaps the most powerful & unique (and raspy) of that era.

Saw them opening for Poison in the summer of 2000, and what an awesome show that was! When they did "Nobody's Fool", Eric switched over from bass to playing those clean arpeggios on a gold-top Gibson Les Paul guitar. Then they did a mini acoustic set in the middle of their normal set, and Jeff was playing an acoustic 6/12 double-neck while he had an electric 6/12 double-neck strapped across his back. It was the coolest thing you ever saw! I loved how they got more bluesy and roots-oriented with each successive album. For whatever reason, and I never understood why, Fred Coury only played drums on the 3rd record. A session player was used on Night Songs and ex Rainbow drummer Cozy Powell was on Long Cold Winter while ex John Mellencamp / John Fogerty drummer Kenny Aronoff played on Still Climbing. As for ex lead guitarist Michael Kelly Smith, his story obviously didn't end with his firing from Cinderella, as he later went on to success with Britny Fox. Anyway, thank God for Cinderella, as they were part of the soundtrack of my youth. I will forever be grateful to Tom Keifer for writing songs that got me through some not-so-bitching times in my life. Rest in peace Jeff LaBar.

I saw Cinderella open for David Lee Roth twice. They were already seasoned and ready to headline at that point. Fast forward to the Long Cold Winter tour. I caught that show in Sioux City Iowa. They were headlining with Winger and Bullet Boys. Cinderella were great, but near the end of the show, Eric Brittingham threw his bass down, grabbed his head, and stumbled behind the cabinets and fell on the side of the stage. It took the band a minute to realize what was going on. They left the stage for about ten minutes, then came back and announced that Eric had been electrocuted, and was on a gurney being prepped for an ambulance ride to the hospital. We waited another 15 minutes when the band came out and finished the show. You could see Eric got hit hard as he sat at the back of stage for the final three songs. Crazy stuff.

‘Long Cold Winter’ is one of my favourite metal albums and still sounds as good now as it did when it was released. Few front men have the distinctive vocals that Tom Keifer possesses.

Good job overall. As a passionate Cinderella fan, I dare to correct you on something. It was "Shake Me" that took them from bar band to famous rock band. The MTV video was in very heavy rotation, and everybody suddenly became Cinderella fans. "Nobody's Fool" is an incredible song, but they made us all fans with Shake Me and its music video. (I'm excited about seeing Tom Kiefer's band tonight in Chattanooga!)

Surprisingly, it was the record label that pushed for "Shake Me" to be the single. The band thought it was a bad idea because they feared the lyrics would keep it from getting airplay, but it ended up a big hit for them!

Cinderella was the first band I ever saw live, opening for Bon Jovi. Fantastic band, they’ve stood the test of time and are tied with G’n’R for my favorite band of that era. There’s a concert video on KZbin from their Heartbreak Station tour that shows just how great they were in their prime. I actually happened to rescue Tom and Eric from a mob of fans as they walked out of the local movie theater on their Long Cold Winter tour, I happened to be driving by in the parking lot and offered them a ride back to their hotel as a bunch of people were running towards them 😂. Cool guys. I’d give just about anything to travel back in time to see that show again. 🤘

Philly born and bread, love Cinderella great hardrock/ blues sound saw them many times live at the Empire and the Galaxy they rocked Philadelphia before they made it big and they were always cool guys would run into Jeff Labar a lot down in Wildwood New Jersey he'd hang out and drink with you and laugh about the good old days playing the local clubs and how great the fans were.
