That's wonderful. 🤗 Thanks for sharing. Had a crappy moment a while ago. Hubby was annoying me with his comments on a gold show we're watching in between my potting up. So, I stormed off back to my hot garage. And who's hot and bothered now? 😅🤣

Plus Liz I forgot to ask does the pot need to be a certain death or height?
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Жыл бұрын
It depends on the type of plant. Some with long roots will need deeper pots and others with shallow roots can live in a shallow pot.

Hi Liz! I have noticed that many of your babies have scabs or spots on the lower leaves. Some of mine do and it turns out some mine are scale. Is that a concern for you? I’m struggling with my mixes AND the powdery mildew! It’s killing so many! I cannot find reliable sources for information so you are my go to! Those Lolita’s are AMAZING!! Do all your pots have drainage? I thought you drilled holes in them all…but even the coffee mugs? Thanks so much Liz!!
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Жыл бұрын
Just like any plant with leaves like fruit trees, vegetables, ornamental plants; succulents are not immune to scabs and spots. Fortunately for my plants/succulents planted outside; I haven't found any scale. I do have some on my indoor plants. This tells me that this is an air circulation problem. If your soil is kept dry for a long time, scale can also happen. A good healthy plant starts from using the right soil mix to the plant species (different succulent requires different soil mix). The weather and the location in your garden also play a big part. Powdery mildew is an indication of too much humidity in the air and can be amended with using the right soil mix. And yes. All my pots have holes. Even the coffee mugs. 🥰

Should I leave my succulents in the greenhouse for the summer or take them outside? I live in Connecticut in the US.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Жыл бұрын
That's a difficult question to answer because there are so many different types/Genus/Species/variety of succulents. They all have different growing requirements. First know the specific succulent name. Find out the dormancy period. Winter growers and summer growers. Some love cold and other hot temperature. But in general, if I have a green house, I would try and maintain the temperature between 15 to 25°C/59 to 77°F. It might help to watch my videos for useful information on growing succulents. Thanks for watching. Cheers

Your Echeveria are glorious Liz! Had no idea there were so many varieties. Kind of like how there are over 1,000 varieties of Hoya. Do you grown any Hoya? There are 12 Species of H. Australis from your country. I love my Hoya Australis Lisa. I too have a few succulents plus many of my Hoya are semi succulent. I used to have my back patio full of succulents but life gets in the way so I just keep my plants indoors. Best Regards & Love from California. ☺️💜💙💚🌿🪴🍀🍃🌵🌱

Yes, I have a few Hoya and love them. With regards to Echeveria Varieties, it's a little bit like Tomato. There are thousands of varieties and tens and thousands more developed varieties. It's a matter of picking through what's available and choosing only the ones one would want to grow.

@GrowingSucculentswithLizK

Methylated spray always works for me. 1 cup metho to 1/4 cup water. Spray roots and soil where infestation occurred. Check the next day and repeat if meallies are still present. Doesn't hurt the root at all. Good luck.

That sounds about right Liz. When I first started growing succulents I used the same top dressing and every plant I used it on went downhill. I lost my beautiful Black Knight. Live & learn! The plant you couldn’t remember with the man name is Lehmanni … with the triangular leaves.

I never knew rhipsalis bears fruits. Mine just flowered and the flowers are beautiful. I am using marble chips and i think they r just too heavy and dnt allow the soil to dry out or something. And pumice goes dirty and gets algae kind of stuff over time n dsnt do well either. Baby P heard the crunchy toast and he could not resist. Much love to him. Thanku for sharing.

Do you ever use expanded shale as a soil component or top dressing? That Little Pedro, hes so cute and always getting in your business LOL.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Жыл бұрын
I have never use shale into my soil mix and probably never will or as a top dressing also. Shale is usually made up of clay minerals which can break up into little pieces/powder that can clog the soil.

@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK the expanded shale we get here I think is heat processed . I know a lot of bonsai people use it. It dosen't seem to break apart very easily. I wish I could show it to you.

Yes that is why you should always be careful what type of "rocks" you use in your media because they do change the pH of the soil around them and depending on the type of mineral they are made of will dump that into the soil. This is the same concept for aquariums that is why you can't just put whatever rocks you want...Always go with pH stable stuff, this is where inorganic media can be just as bad as organic when you don't realize that it matters.
