This Rocket League GLITCH Made Me Lose the Game & RAGE...

In today's Rocket League video, play 1's until I lose! In this episode we encounter a glitch / bug that's been around ever since I can remember. The goal of this series is to get SSL by the end of the season while explaining my thought process or why certain mistakes were made to help you guys improve in Rocket League!! What happened on the flip reset was client side prediction. In a fast paced game like rl where every milesecond matters, the game often doesn't have time to wait for a response from the server on stuff like where the ball is being shot, 50s, etc. So instead, the computer predicts what is going to happen and 99.9% of the time it predicts correctly. However, sometimes the calculations are ever so slightly wrong, and so the server tells the computer it's wrong and the game will momentarily act weird. This is why things like ghost touches, false demos and other stuff. Pretty much, Musty's computer thought he had the flip, but the server said he didn't, which is why his car acted weird. It's not the server lagging, it's just a rare miscalculation. Edit: oof lost the heart because I edited the comment :(

@@droolly4730 Unless there is a better way to program the game, it can't really be fixed. But this is also why it never happens on lan with pros. So no, the only realistic way is to have ultra low ping or it will probably be a thing forever

If you look at the slowed down replay, you can see Musty tried to flip, but the game did a neutral jump instead. So it's the same issue, but he did have the flip. What probably happened is that Mustys timing between tilting forward (surpassing the deadzone) and jumping to flip, was so small that the server found that Musty wasn't tilting forward during the jump, thus doing a neutral jump instead. The client calculated differently, but the server overrules. This may also have been caused by a rare packet delay, where the packet containing the jump was delayed for some reason and caused the desync

That flip reset would have gone in because in the replay you can see the white trail that comes from your wheels when you flip, so the game counted it as a flip but didn’t make your car do anything.

the flip reset was only on musty's client, the server only calculates physics and approves client physics every 30 frames (for performance), it just happened that when musty got the flip reset on the client and sent that input (to get the flip reset) to the server, when the server received the input it wasn't fast enough to catch that exact moment where all 4 wheels touched the ball, therefore the server denied the client's physics (when he flipped) and the client has to follow and correct the physics to match the server.
