Horses have individual personalities and would not do this if they didn't enjoy it. Many years ago we used to send Police horses to football matches (such was the level of violence and disorder. One match outside the ground a "man" was shouting abuse at a rider, who ignored him, but the horse got fed up and slowly side stepped pinning the man against a wall. He didn't hurt him but boy did he scream, and he didn't let him go until he wanted to regardless of the riders efforts. It was a treat to watch and I bet that's one big mouthed yob who learned some respect for horses.

@ Tango6nf, Now, this is what I would enjoy seeing. Difficult to cure stupid, eh? Have a mate who is in the Mounted Police….somewhere. His horse loves to stamp a hoof, then find a hooman instep. As you said, theses horse have personalities, have brains (go figure because that amazes silly humans) and are very observant.. during the Christmas festivités, the Police horses would do traffic duty. I would make up little parcels of sugar cubes & carrots. I always asked permission to give the horses a treat. Best treat ever for me!

I went to Twickenham once, and on the way out of the stadium, walking back to the train station, there were lots of police horses. I stopped to talk to a policeman riding a huge grey horse. I asked him what the horse’s name was, he told me he was called Damian because he was evil and bit everyone that went near him. But, he didn’t bite me, he actually nuzzled me. Lots of people love to say how these horses are enslaved, abused, etc when in fact these magnificent horses have their own personality and are free to let it show. They are never 'broken' but slowly coaxed into wanting to be ridden. There is a connection between rider and mount, they bond and as you saw, they even play together. At anytime when a rider comes off his horse, it doesn't run away...he usually stands and waits patiently. They are well fed, well exercised in Parklands like Wormwood Scrubs, and vacation in the summer at Holkhom Beach. When they get older they are retired to a Household Cavalry retirement sanctuary.

You can’t help but wonder what people who make observations such as you shared have those ideas based on -WHAT? Supposition? Just look at these fabulous horses-do they look ill fed? Do they look as though they are struggling in ANY way? Horsewoman that she is how could ANYONE believe HM would countenance ANY negative treatment such as you have shared is some people’s opinion? Foolishness in my opinion, THANK YOU for your excellent description of the truth of the matter!
@TheKira6992 жыл бұрын
@Martina Obst If you think it is abuse, do you honestly think a horse would stand still for hours and fall asleep if it was abused. One trooper said that they do fall asleep and if startled awake they will fall over. I get the distinct impression that you wouldn't know animal abuse if you tripped over it. Taking all the horses to the beach and letting them run in the surf, taking them for 'watering order' which is an early ride through London streets to Wormwood Scrubs and have a nice canter around the grass there, a coffee, water, then back to barracks by 8am. Horses are washed, shod, fed, mucked out, all before the troopers take care of themselves. PETA has more animal abuse in it's ranks due to only having KILL SHELTERS and stealing domestic animals from private property and putting them down.

Most people have witnessed motor bikes doing cross weaves (don’t know the correct term) but when it’s done by horses in close formation, it is a testament of man and horse. My favourite, I have to say, is the drum horse…I just love heavy horses…but the charge of the flags at the end was absolutely incredible…the horses leaving the arena at full gallop took my breath away. Afterwards we went over to where they were being stabled and along with a few other people were aloud to watch them being cooled down and groomed(perhaps because we were all being respectful of them). One of my favourite fond memories. Thank you for bring it to life for me again. Bye💁🏼♀️

These horses are trained as they have been for that length of time as they are a team with their riders. Do you also not understand that these horses are Crown horses as they are in the Army, just as their riders are. They would not willingly do these moves if they were unwilling-or harmed in anyway. Do you honestly think that the Queen, who adores horses, and is a consummate rider herself would allow any harm done to any of them? At 96, she still goes out riding when she can.It might be an idea to learn about things before being judgemental !
