Hey guys, quick update on the possible configurations coming to market. Basically MSI's information on the GE66 is a bit of a mess. First I hear there should be 8-core i7 and i9 options only, and their product page mentions RTX 2070, 2070 Super and 2080 Super Max-Q. Now I hear there might be cheaper 6-core i7 and RTX 2060 options coming as well. Basically just keep an eye out on what's available in your region.

I have the 6 core i7 variant for 2200 at best buy. It come with 32gb ram and 2070 super and runs much cooler. Im not a content creator so i dont need those 2 extra cores but the ram i very much welcome. Nice video!

GE66 is all plastic. GS66 is metal. Not sure which one they had, but this one is has very weak spots and not so sturdy plastic...and i might have broken off a piece when opening it :D

Nvidia should hire someone to make straightforward uncomplicated and understandable naming schemes... Hell I'll do it just for the sake of annoyance lol. The average consumer has no idea about the wattage difference between these along with max q, max p, super, etc. Just way too confusing and people getting less performance without realizing it. I have a GE66 with an i7-10875H and an RTX 2070. Idk what weird model you have but I'm sure mine is metal all over (apart for the keycaps and trackpad of course) Also, compared to a lot of other gaming laptops, I actually think this one looks very sleek and professional with the RGB turned off (or turned to white). It's much better than most other gaming laptops at least. Other than that, thermals are great and performance is amazing for games. I really love the laptop.

Lol! Just had the same problem when I switched to the GPU. I couldn’t adjust the brightness. Thank you for letting me know about the reboot. I also have to mention that I’ve gone through 3 of these. The first two had very very bad screen bleeding, and on one of them the screen popped off when I opened it one morning. Definitely no quality control anymore, that’s for sure. Thank goodness for 30 day exchanges and extended warranties. Thanks so much for the great videos!! They seem very unbiased, which is hard to find. Much appreciated!!

i have ge66 raider. I7-10750H, 32gb ram , 2070 super and this things a beast. I ran 3D mark time spy and it never got hotter than 81 degrees. Cod warzone was hovering around 78-80 degrees and i havnt even undervolted. Yes, undervolt is possible with the new msi laptops so i would give that a try. Just note that the 240hz and the 300hz are different panels. The 240z uses the 2019 sharp panels while the new one uses some other superior one i forgot. Other than that, I dont see much flex on my model though which i thought was weird. Overall, im happy with this purchase over my alienware m15 r3 which i returned due to thermals being 100 degrees on all cores

Ro Mel good shit bro, aesthetically the Alienware wins from the back but the msi beats it in front haha. I undervolted my msi and I'm hitting 66 in cod warzone And idle is around 40 degrees. You'll be much happier returning that furnace m15 lol. Dell even tried to convince me to keep it because it's normal To hit 100 degrees... well if that's normal for dell then count me out cuz other manufacturers got their thermals down lol

I'm still waiting for my m17 r3 with 2080 max p to arrive. I've heard of the thermal issues with the r2 and was definitely looking at the ge66 and gs66. Unfortunately here at my country, the ge66 only comes in 2060 config and the gs66 only comes in in i9 2080 super Max q config (which is significantly more expensive than the Alienware). Guess I'll have to settle 😅

I actually have the i7 with the 2070super with 32gbs of ram in it and I love it. I got a hell of a deal on it as it was the display model at my local best buy so I got it for about 1k below MSRP. I recently had to replace the fans as one of them died but all in all I run an external monitor and in warzone I'm pulling 120 to 144 fps and I did play DayZ for a while and was out performing a friend of mines desktop as far as FPS and they had a 30 series card but only 16gbs of ram. I've also overclocked my gpu a bit and any time I game I have the fans on full blast and also have it on a laptop cooler with 6 fans. my gpu doesn't usually go above 70c in any game but the CPU in warzone will hit 80c for a few seconds at times. Other than that considering the price I got it for and the fact that trying to build a desktop right now would cost way too much with gpu prices the way they are, I couldn't ask for a better one. I will state that my cpu is also a 6-core not an 8 core. Great review.

I just bought exact this model yesterday and couldnt be happier. Great review. Question on the cpu performance: does your also sometimes have a lot of spikes even in the Idle? The temps are jumping from 45 to 65 degree ( on idle) and there is alesys 1 fan (nr 1) running at at least 2500 rrpm? Even on silent mode? (Edit: this was due to wrong cpu volatge via xtu. Changed anf now runs smoother) Besides this it is a beast of a machine. In assassins creed oddys i got 54fps on max settings with 144p on external monitor and nothermal throtteling even without turning on cooler boost. However, i have undervolted -100mv and using a cooling pad.

Awesome video! I love how you get access to these new laptops waaaay before everyone else!!! As for the 2080 Super Max Q version, in the US that’s currently the only GPU available with a 300Hz refresh panel, and I’ve seen (unconfirmed) reports that it’s been boosted to 105W, much like what the GE65 Raider did last year with its Boosted 2060. But still like you said the 2070S is the version to get, my only problem being it has no biometrics which all its competitors have.

It's possible, but I did ask and they even told me 80W (compared to HWU that said theirs had 90W). I also understood, but I could be wrong here, that if Nvidia sells it as 80W, they can't just change it.

Great review! I'm having a hard time trying to decide between the GS66 (2060) and the GE66 (2070). The price it's almost the same for both, but the GS66 has Thunderbolt, for example, while the GE66 has an RTX2070

The ge66 is more power for your money. The gs66 is thinner, sleeker, a bit fancier, but also a bit weaker in games for similar prices.

They don't list the rtx 2080 super as max-p (non max-q) bc the non max q variant have 150W of power input And, as you say, the thermal module only can dissipate a specific amount of heat (power) As long as I know the only notebook from msi that has a full 2080 super is the ge75 raider (the 17 inch variant of the ge66 raider) Amazing review btw. Great review, I bought the I7 with the 2070 a couple months ago and am really happy with it. My biggest gripe is the horrible speakers (Dynaudio should be ashamed having their name associated with them). Was informative to see the temps at Balanced configurations, I'll have to play around with it as it does offer some custom user adjustments.

That cheap plastic is a deal killer. The Lenovo 7i build looks to be much nicer if you want a powerhouse intel system this year, otherwise wait for a Ryzen Lenovo 7i or Asus Zephyrus G14 successor next year in Ryzen in 15/17in.

I noticed in the Assassin's Creed Odyssey Ultra comparison that the Asus M15 wasn't far behind. The M15 with a RTX 2070 S Max-Q outperformed the GS66 that had better overall specs. Just wanted to confirm the chart and the M15 specs. I ask because I have a GS66 and am disappointed with the machine (10980hk & RTX 2070 S Max-Q.)

I might buy it. If the 2070 is a 115w, its a good price here in my country. With a Intel i7 6 core - Nvidia 2070 115w gpu and 240hz display, I can tune the laptop to be a powerful and stil somewhat silent machine. Also don't think there is much difference between the 2070 and 2070 super. (atleast there isnt on the spec sheets).

@Techtesters There is like a tick when you click with a touch (the middle part) on the touchpad. Is it just mine? And the screen kinda has a gap when folded when you hold the laptop fan facing the ground. Not so impressed with their final touches. But everything else super.

For some odd reason, this version is 400$ cheaper in my country than gs66, so, a question would be. How's the coil wine in this laptop? Did you hear any? Also, could you check if you have the camera running, while not speaking or saying anything if there's any sounds being heard (like ventilators running or something else). That would be appreciated, thanks :) For us aparently the version that's 400$ cheaper than gs66 is the 2070 super (not max q) but with 6 core i7 (which i don't mind since the 2070 super max q gs66 has the same specs while being quite a month worth of savings more expensive).

No coil whine on this unit. And since there is a fan stop, if you're just chatting for example you shouldn't hear anything. And yeah, if you care more for power than aesthetic and a metal chassis, a cheaper GE66 makes a lot of sense vs a GS66.
