An important note is that large events with embedded leadership staff still have dedicated white cell that the players don’t necessarily see as much who are handling the logistics and who are the final call-up for if there are player or game issues. This is true of every decent large event I’ve ever worked or attended. All games need non-playing staff at some level.

Yup. I totally love driving 2 hours to get there and have the ref/owner/ “player” stand there and in mid conversation pull out a pistol and shoot me in the back. Boneyard field IN. He puts money into the field to make it cool but is completely overshadowed by 9/10 refs being garbage. Makeup on a pig. Then having a 30 min water break and 15 min match then another 30 min water break then a 1.5 hour lunch break. Not worth the drive or money.

I agree with the second part of what you said, It's annoying as hell to spend gas, food and prep not to mention the drive just for the "10am to 4pm" game be maybe 2-3 hours of actually playing

My regular field, which I am member of. We have a marshall roster for each walk on game. We have 2 all day, 4 AM and 4 PM dedicated marshalls. Because we are a club the marshalls are members who volunteer. We are there to help the game master to ensure the game plays out smoothly and handle any issues that may arise. We are not permitted to carry guns on us when marshaling. So we focus on being a marshal when we are meant to be and players when we are not marshalls.

A combination of refs in play to ensure good flow and teamwork / motivation but then also a good number visibly not in play to assist with any issues experienced by players.

My local field has a field marshal crew that plays while reffing. It isn’t as big an issue than most because it’s a more milsimesk vibe. Open play at this field has only had a few problems in 2 years. I used a foam larping sword and squad wiped 5 guys then they all decided to say I was cheating and whapping them harder than a bb. The head ref then hit himself as hard as he could on the arm and gave them a look. Cheating doesn’t happen because if you cheat you get overshot. People don’t cheat then

I had an experience at my local field last time that bothered me. A ref called a time out. Gathered us up. The other team kept shooting our whole team during the time out and I got pissed. The ref told me to cool down and chill out instead of acknowledging it was their bad calls and reffing that lead to it. I got shot in my hand and it broke my pinky finger because of that. (Yes I had gloves on too)

Your pinky finger was broken by a BB? Sorry, but I find that highly unlikely unless they were using metal BBs and / or hot guns.

@skywardsoul1178 yeah it got me where it bends. No meat there just bone. I thought it was just swelling at first. Looks like it's broken now 🙃 our fps limit on AEGs is 420, our fps limit on snipers is 500. They were shooting at us at close range too

@@AiMusicGalaxy1 Ah, fair enough. Joints are weird things and can be easily damaged. Those limits do seem very high. We have a 30 foot MED for 400 FPS DMRs. Anything else is 350 limits, and frequently at UK sites, indoors / CQB is semi only. Often the 450 FPS snipers have an MED of 75 feet or more.

Embedded refs both in play and on the sidelines is a requirement. Player refs are incredibly useful to catch cheating. A LOT of the cheats wind their necks in when they see the hi vis. No airsoft field is actually viable without volunteer labour. Player refs are just a tool in the box alongside high vis refs.

I agree with you! I have an field in Romania and when I organize an event, I am only as a referee not as a fighter (I am sorry that I cannot fight being the TL of my team) and I consider that I cannot be impartial if I fight and be a referee too.

My home field in San Antonio has a HUGE problem with this. Im not even sure the refs are actual refs but just regulars or friends of the field that are allowed to run games. The worst perpetrator of this toxic behavior is one ref that walks on the field pretending not to play just to come up behind the other team and kill everyone, ruining the game. And he does this almost every time I play there. Really unfortunate stuff.

The refs at the indoor and outdoor field i play at on their days off. That's why they choose from players who regularly come and have earned their trust become their second set of eyes. So if we see something, we tell the refs, and the refs put focus on said possible cheater or someone being unsportsmanlike, such as overshooting a player that calls their hits the first time. Overshootin in the indoor is 5 or 6 shots in succession. 2 or 3 is what was deemed ok.

most events in Utah are community hosted and sometimes the host will play but in games like koth, he makes sure everyone calls their hits and if they don't he will shoot them and if they still don't call their hits they will be asked to sit out.they also have drones supposedly but i never heard or seen them. at the cqb arena they only play if they are off.
I'm Roasting even more Airsoft Kits
