(I even decided to make a model of one of those small locomotives for a mining train based on the Märklin rockwagons if i can get a singel pice 00 motorboggi, 00 is a quite rare scale in my coutry but i taught it would match my old 1930s Hornby Tankloco if it's slightly bigger than the H0 locos i hawe in my collection but can still use the same system as the German H0 trains i think. For now the miniature trains is as close i can get the full size i guess... but i still dreaming... ha ha. ).

A smashing video, that’s brought back some fun memories - thank you. Occasionally in 2015-16 I drove the twin sister, RH 221625, also ex-RNAD BM, while on a long-term loan to the sadly short-lived Penrhyn Quarry Railway revival project in Gwynedd as PQR No26… 26 cemented my fondness of Rustons, and I miss it. I was in stitches at 19:45 , because the brake on 26 worked when going forward perfectly, but hardly at all in reverse, much as you found here - how did the brake perform going forwards on 221623? Also: You could’ve made life even easier still on yourself starting it up - the injection pump has a lever on the back you can reach your fingers around to to flick up, releasing the control rack to push even further forwards than the throttle lever allows (it drops back automatically after starting). The guys up from the Moseley Trust minding 0-4-2ST ‘Stanhope’ taught us that, and reckoned that these 48DL’s are bizarrely easier to manual start than the diddy 20DL’s. Couldn’t see them in your video, but the other quaint curiosity certainly with the engine in 26 (possibly swapped for the Lister equivalent?) was the glow plugs: they were essentially long bolts with a T-handle that you unscrew, shove the handleless end in a fire or blow-torch flame until red hot, replace swiftly but safely into the engine, and then you attempt to start the thing up as quickly as you can! Thank you again.
@lmm4 жыл бұрын
I'm really glad you enjoyed it! They're great fun things to drive aren't they. Massive shame about Penrhyn, it looked like it had so much potential and character. The brakes... Just needed adjustment full stop 😂 Oh really? That's a useful hint for the future! We'd talked about putting in a similar heating system into my 48 when it didn't want to start.
