We still use checks. We've been to campgrounds that didn't take credit or debit cards. As the owner of one of them said to me, "I'm not going to pay a bank just to get my money". Here's a thought, no body can track your spending when you pay cash.

We have only been through NJ once, twice if you count the return trip, and I have no desire to go through there again. Just the rude devil pumping our gas then running it all down the side of our brand new car, was enough. I made him get water to at least wash it off. He wasn't going to but I informed him the line was going to get out to street because I wasn't moving until he did! We live in NC and for the most part people are super friendly. If they aren't, most likely they weren't born and raised here! It was funny hearing about the old school phone!! Heck where I was raised in the foothills of the mountains, we ued to have a "party" line. No, that doesn't mean a party, it meant a lot of aggravation! We had 20 houses on one phone line so learned to pick up the corded phone hand set, gently raise the hook and see if anyone else was already using the phone! If they were, you had to wait! If you ever heard the term, "wait, hold the phone", now you know where that phrase started! We always had the same old lady that loved to jack her jaws forever!!

The campground is probably getting hammered with credit card charges. My husband is a business consulting business with about 8 clients. Most by credit card and he realized last month that the bank fees to process the credit cards was nearly $1000 per month. He told them no more credit cards, pay electronically or send a check!

In western Wisconsin where I'm from, and we camp most of Wisconsin. Most places do not take checks. Cash, debit and credit are no problem. And there are a growing number of places that give you a discount if you pay with cash. Mostly bar/restaurant. No checks saves them from the unfortunate bad check. Everyone has an ATM on sight. Hi Izzy and MJ! Great on the review of your campground you were at. So sorry you had a bad experience with an either there. Ya I agree some people need to lose their attitude. Especially with working with the public. I am one of the ones who still writes out checks. On line paying doesn’t work with me that great! Oops like a very nice clean park and I’m glad they had playgrounds for kids. Thank you for doing this video on reviewing this campground.

Been traveling last couple months and have run across the check or cash only option several times. Surprised me too, although did not have to send check for deposit. But then I don’t usually make reservations very far ahead of stay.

My wife still writes checks for our monthly bill every month. She also balances the check book to the penny every month. She has found many of the banks mistakes. She has the basic skills that no one has under the age of 35. Oh how I miss the sixties and the seventies.

Hi guys. Great to run into the both of you at Depot Travel Park. We have been going there for 2 years and travel with 3 chihuahuas. Although we carry our dogs records, they have never asked to see them. That leads me to believe that it may be breed specific.

We write a few checks but also use a lot of cash and a little on cards. I think the older generation still writes checks. When you retire next year you may have to learn how to write checks. Haha. Just remember when hurricane came through and they lost power they couldn’t use debit cards or credit cards only thing available was cash.

I write very few checks, but I do write them. Last time I reordered checks from the bank, I figured I'd order the usual five-year supply. And found that they would only ship 2 books of 50 in any one order. In order to get any more, I had to place multiple orders! And the full size end-stub business checks are no longer available, they use "to stub" personal checks. The banks are definitely trying to phase them out. But since many places add a $3-5 "convenience fee" for credit cards, I still send a paper check out for those. (State motor vehicles!) I don't know how, but in Canada 25 years ago I could even use a credit card for a parking meter. No surcharge needed!

We write checks, all the time. We have a local campground that gives discount for cash or check they really don't like card but will take them. I would not like the vistor charge. That is not great. We like to make dinner for people then they go to their hotel etc.

I’m finding more and more businesses, especially in tourist areas, are charging a credit card fee. This includes restaurants, camp grounds, motels, tourist shops and more. Some are 3% and others have been as high as 5%. This may not sound like much but at the end of the month it can add up to $50 or more.

I just read that they updated the roaming Star Link service, it took a week to 10 days. That might be why you are seeing better service. (I'm also biting my tung about turning it off in a specific area, Grrr). The place where we had our seasonal site was sold recently. I just got news that the new owners raised the overnight rate 25% on holidays, with a 3 night minimum. They were full for the first 2 holidays and turned people away, so get what the traffic will bare. Not a good thing IMHO!! Peace --gary

Jersey, LOL !!! They were super nice at the Sun Outdoors but you certainly can’t walk to the beach from there. Where you stayed was a pretty nice campground though and no tree cover. We were in the woods. The check thing is really weird though. Missy has about 10 checks, just in case, LOL. So you guys paid $6 for us to come hang out and no one was at the gate.. You should have made Missy pay since she lost.. LOL

Reason #158 why I would never buy an expensive RV and then park it in one of these parks. I don't even like neighbors behind a stick-built house , so goes without saying that sitting next to people in these parks and then dealing with park a-holes. Ugh!

The campground can actually charge a fee dor using a credit card. In 2023, Governor Murphy signed P.L. 2023, c. 146 (N.J.S.A. 56:8-156.1 and -156.2) into law, which, among other things, prohibits sellers from imposing a credit card surcharge that is greater than the actual cost to the seller to process the credit card payment.

I agree about the fee for excepting CC, but also may have had problems with people making claims to CC company. Also I have noticed that folks who don’t do checks have a hard time keeping track of how much they have in their account.
