⛵️This sailboat changed our lives!! Ep.313

We toured Joshua! The famous steel boat built by Meta Yachts in the 1960s for Bernard Moitessier.
We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? "Spray", "Joshua" and "Suhaili". All remarkable saiing vessels. Bernard was the reason I started sailing myself. And it is good to know that Joshua is kept alive. She started with telepraph-poles. You can't these anymore. What I liked a lot was that, in Bernard's memory, the ashtray and the corkscrew are still on board.

I saw Joshua in Cabo San Lucas on my first cruise to Mexico, when she ended up on the beach during a freak storm in 1982! That’s when he sold her to the American. Good thing she was made of steel.

In 1983 I sailed in to Cabo san lucas just after a storm had washed 26 boats on the beach and Joshua was there. Bernard put an ad on the bulletin board for his boat free to anyone accept americans. A couple of young Germans took to pounding the dents out of it very loud in the anchorage. The good people of Sausalito Ca raised donations to buy Bernard a new boat. Also the Pardeys first boat went up on the beach but we all got together and pulled it off with minor damage. Good times.

I know you are all about sailing and I expect much more episodes of boat building and sailing in the future. However, while you are in France/Europe I pray you can travel a little and experience some of the romance of the land and people. This is part of why I started sailing. And one of my sailboats was steel, red and white just like this. Until the red colour fainted too much. Similarly Henk de Velde who became a friend (until his recent death) inspired. He went around the world 7 times 5x solo.

Those toggles closing the stowage at 11:14 are not that smart - to open the mid compartment both turnbuttons/toggles have to turned which means all 3 compartments have nothing closing them ???

History of the astrodome . Moitessier didn't have the money to buy one, so he used a glass of a washmachine. But the origine is astronavigation on planes, and used for the first time on a sail boat by Eric Tabarly on 1964 ( because he was first a pilot in aeronavale and used sextant as on his sailboat) .fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrod%C3%B4me Moitessier and Tabarly have been at the origine of a full of technological innovations always used today.
