Great vlog. Must have been traumatic dying on stage like that Will. I went with Tom Pepper in the mid 80s to a social club in Manchester he told me it was a stag night party kind of gig just lads. When we got there the MC approached Tom and told him something very similar to what you were told, ie "Hello Tom can I just make something very clear, this is a catholic club, and although this is a mostly a male audience we don't want any swearing or blue stuff." This was okay with Tom because he had a superb caberet act as well as a blue act. It was a show were he did two spots, at the end of the first spot, he said to me "I think this audience wants a bit of heavy gear, what do you think? I said, "I think you're right, but if you go against the guidance you might not get paid." So he did his second spot caberet style, and at the very end of his spot (last gag in fact) he threw a really blue gag in, well it brought the roof down, they went delerious. Tom said to them. "Look lads that's all I can do, I'm not allowed to do any heavy gear, if you want any heavy gear you will have to get some money in a bucket, and have a word with the MC." He came off stage, I met him in the dressing room, he was followed by the MC who said No, he would not allow Tom to do a blue spot even though the audience were clearly up for it, and to prove it someone came in with a bucket full of notes to get Tom to do the blue act. But no he wasn't allowed to do it. You were very unlucky, and the unexpected took you off balance, being billed as a blue act, and only having blue material, and then finding out you couldn't use any of it, well that is just impossible.
