Just finished this one! I definitely liked the concept, I'm very into dystopian, paranormal kinds of stories, and I found this one to be really unique. I kind of wish the characters/backstory of this world were a little bit more developed. I felt like she tried to hit the high points of the character development, and I could've done with a little bit of a richer build up. Overall though, very creative and interesting concept :)

i honestly found this book average. i loved schwab's writing style but the plot was not captivating. it wasn't a mind-blowing page turner. i loved the characters though! xx

Can someone please explain what "going dark" means and also in what why Ilsa is very dangerous and powerful, how like she killed a roomful of people and created the barren I missed that point

Defne Ozkan going dark is kinda like a person loosing all control and just becoming a killing everything in their path. I'm pretty sure there is no reason for ilsa being rlly powerful she just is like the other Sunai. Hope I helped lol

Jennifer Stansbury Same! I thought the writing to be lacklustre and incredibly simple and the characters to be unlikable. As it's a duology so there's only one more book, I think I'll probably still read it, despite my opinion of the first one.
