This sector is key to 1.5°C

CDP, in partnership with the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA), has assessed the transition plans of key companies from across the Electric Utilities sector.
The global economy cannot decarbonize without the increase in generation of renewable energy so this sector is key to ensuring we transition away from a reliance on fossil fuels.
The International Energy Agency suggests that we need to triple the generation capacity of renewable energy by 2030 and its Net-Zero Report states that fossil fuels need to fall by 40% by 2030, as they currently make up 61% of global generation.
The assessment shows:
➡️ The sector is showing signs of progress from the last assessment in 2021.
➡️ Progress gives reason to be hopeful as solar generation is on track to hit IEA's target.
➡️ There is still a lot of work to be done, starting with the setting of more ambitious targets.
