The question punters like me want to ask: what car does a mechanic who hates most cars (justifiably) chooses to spend money on and drive?
@Low760
@Low760 Жыл бұрын
@@davidorama6690 something rwd with common parts availability, if you like cars. If you are a mechanic who hates cars, a corrolla or something dull or a petrol Japanese ute sort of thing. I'm the mechanic who likes cars but knows everything can have issues. So a rwd late model Commodore or Falcon is a lot better than European for repairs. I like rwd Volvo's but fwd ones just are a pain imo for instance.

Great video Sean. You'll find as you go on a project that you'll find things that need replacing & it's usually the small ones that hold you back. I'm finding that with my '03 VY S ute that has the factory LS1. One of my switches on the dash was broken & you can't get them from Holden anymore. Ones from the wreckers are dubious as I went through 3 of them to get one properly working. Keep searching & be persistent. Make sure you check the suspension for worn items. I had to replace my tie rods & front bushes over the weekend & I'm lucky that those items can be easily bought. Don't worry about the haters as it's not their car & only use forums for info & not get into arguments with those who think they know it all. At the end of the day, look at the end goal & that is you'll have a great car that you restored yourself.

I hate this car so much and I love watching you fix it up at the same time I’m unsure what to do with these emotions. I’ve cried and laughed at the same time. I’m a mess. For pulling the dash apart, All the screws etc into ziplock samich bags as you do each part. Write on the bag what they are for. And even number the bags in order of how you pull things apart. Get some plastic crates and put the bags of parts into the crate as you go to keep the small space tidy. I have lots of crates for bigger jobs and put tape on the front with contents written on them.

Ok so next time you do interior... Pull the seats out and pressure wash them with a small Karcher or something with low power and a wide fan. The rub them down with a water based food safe degreaser and go again and wet vac out. One last pass with fabric softener.... Allow to fully dry in the hot sun before reinstall. Try it on something crap if you don't believe me. You can even ad things like bluo or Radiant Black Wash to get colours back out. Also make sure you air gun out any plugs underneath the seat too. I also do it with carpets and stronger door trim fabrics. The hoodliner can't handle it so your stuck using a damp micro and a wet vac there... Or just replace it.

You have certainly lucked out on the front speakers. From factory it was a three way split system, woofer in the door, tweeter in that black triangle sail area at the front of the door on the window edge and on the dash were mid range speakers. Unless the wiring was totally changed, it should still be there. Dash mids and tweeters are readily available from the wreckers, though, normally in this type of upgrade, you leave the dash mids and then install a good split system in the door. Too late for all that now, but, just some more info, also, early Verada had door insulation that fitted to the rear of the door cards and will make a big difference in the sound quality and even just closing the door will sound better.

Hate to say, but ditch the Bissell if you want to clean fabric proper. They don't suck enough water to get them clean

Good on you mate good job I wonder for a future video given you’re sponsored by century batteries if you could cover recommendations for trickle charging I’ve been using a charger called CTEK 0.8A but I see century have their own as well…….. Maybe you could cover the topic and give them a plug at the same time whatever the official recommendations are from the company………

I would upgrade those heater connections, I'd go as far as to re-manufacture them. Not in plastic because I know they will fail again

I think it's the o-rings that fail... but having said that I do wonder why they didn't just make them metal and weld them onto the core itself.

@@MotoringBoxTV yep, built this entire vehicle and chose to cut costs right there. I wonder how that element compares to other Australian cars of the era. Just thinking that they aren't made by the car manufacturers but by a parts supplier

Ex Mitsubishi tech here, just so you know Sean you can technically do a heater core on these with the dash in place if you remove the glovebox and frame, then wiggle the carpet out from under the center console area. Though if you're pulling the dash for other reasons or have the time I would recommend you still do so. Flat rate is a bitch and you'll be sitting upside down in the footwell with coolant in your face if you do it this way.

Thanks mate - I read a comment the other day suggesting this (might have been you!) And had a look to see what space I'd be working with. Looked like a bit of a nightmare, so I think I'll still bite the bullet and remove the dash 😬

Dash is easier way. Dash out is easy. While you are there. Might as well reseal the old dried sealant, left side of windscreen. When it rains you will end up with a puddle on passenger side 2 of my 3 magnas have the problem, and it is very common now . If you get on facebook and search you will find the threads, amc had threads but it was down last time i checked.

The Magna was more advanced than the GM and Ford offerings. Just look at that independent rear end. The dash could have been a bit more creative but not as life sapping as the Camry's. You keep surprising me with the gems you get your hands on.
