Organdy is a great suggestion and a low cost option and comes in so many tints that it may easily blend in with a light weight half transparent upper fabric. I hadn't thought of this technique before. Thank you for this great advice!

Classic historic and couture sewing technique - the underlining (flat-lining) gives the support to your fashion fabric on the outside. You don't have to find fashion fabric with the "right" body, because you can add body. Think of all those Victorian silk gowns with the cotton linings.

So true and I also love how it allows you to use much more affordable fabrics.
