Is it in general a “rule” that these sleeves are half or 3/4 length? Cannot make them wrist long..?

You can make them whatever length you want! With a gusset all in one bodice and sleeve you’ll end up with a big pattern piece!

Tricia that was a great tip about the zips in the jumpsuit. I will keep that in mind in case my daughter decides she wants one. My biggest sewing tip is sew to the parameters of the project, for example, time, budget, type of fabric, etc. so you can plan what type of construction methods you will use. No use sewing couture methods on a costume and vice versa.
@charlotta_patterncuttingschool5 күн бұрын
That's so true. Those parameter are often obvious be how typical garment of that type have been made - t shirts rarely have blind stitched hems!

The current versions of these houses are lacking the couture craftsmanship that creates the elegance of the originals. The Pierre Cardin blue jumpsuit looks like the cheap stretchy shiny fabric that I once had to make costumes for a children's ballet school and it was a nightmare to sew. Balenciaga would turn in his grave if he saw what they have done to his house and name. Makes me want to cry.
@charlotta_patterncuttingschool12 күн бұрын
Totally agree without you. It's spectacle over craftsmanship. I normally don't look at Balenciaga, as it makes me too annoyed!

Thanks Charlotta for all the lovely inspiration. I loved the Hermes jacket, the garments made from the cutwork fabric (Op shops are going to wonder why there is a run on tablecloths) and the military cape. I like the idea of not sewing together the underarm seam of the sleeves and making the cape look more like a tunic. Lining the red dresses with black to bring out the colour is something Charles James would do. The dresses with the wide necklines are beautiful but I wonder how they constructed them to stop them slipping down, internal corsets, elastic in the shoulders ?
@charlotta_patterncuttingschool16 күн бұрын
Hi Natalie, we were watching Cleopatra today and Anthony had another cape without the sleeves sewn up- it’s funny how you suddenly notice these details. I think the shoulders on the green dress are kept up by the rope, not sure about the white. Too loose for a corset, so maybe a high back neck?

I agree. These garments look utterly ridiculous and totally unflattering even in stick figure models. Completely uninspiring. Thank goodness we don’t need to rely on jumped up twits who simply indulge themselves and not prospective clients who can’t think for themselves.

Hi Charlotta! The skirt ruffle waistband feels like an interpretation of how in the 90s and early 2000s, young men (especially around where I lived in California where they were involved in gangs, or skateboarding) would wear their cotton boxer briefs above the waistline of their sagging trousers.
@charlotta_patterncuttingschool23 күн бұрын
Hi Kait, that’s so well spotted, I bet you’re right. I remember those trousers/boxer combinations.

I just discovered that this sleeve can help with people with large biceps. With a large bicep width and a tall cap height, one ends up with way too much ease. The split upper sleeve allows one to reduce some of that ease. At least in theory. I'm trying it out now.
@charlotta_patterncuttingschool24 күн бұрын
That’s quite true, it allows for three fitting lines instead of one!
@nataliechim522726 күн бұрын
I really liked the green hat and I spied the Gucci burgundy outfit at the beginning. Love the details on the jacket with the drawstring waistline and the collar shape. There are some crazy things coming down the catwalk at the moment. I swore I would never wear my waistline on my hips again as you are forever having to hitch it up, so uncomfortable.

Charlotta great review. I really want a pair of the mop shoes so I can clean the floor while I am walking.😂 I really appreciated the Stephen Smith designs when you said they were hand embroidered. I actually liked the Burberry coat with all the pockets in the background of the photo and the robe de style dresses with the pockets are lovely. Too many ideas. too little time.
@charlotta_patterncuttingschoolАй бұрын
You’re right, they would be perfect for that! Can you imagine wearing them out? They would be so grubby! I think the hand embroidery on the Steve O smith dresses really makes the difference, if it was printed it would be too flat. Always too little time!!

What I pictured as a shock collar was on a jacket and I think that would you pictured as a shock collar is on a sweater and his clothes below the shock collar. Not putting a picture at the beginning of your video makes things confusing and not good so I think that doing that would be an improvement a great improvement
