I came across the channel yesterday and I couldn't believe that online time trials is back! I always used to watch this back in high school after cross country practice and it brings back so many memories. Now I feel like I'm 17 again and the only thing I have to worry about is getting homework done and finishing a custom track 🫶

i grinded airship fortress for a while, if you go into the cannon super far to the right like you did at 7:03 you hit a weird piece of collision in the spiral and you get to take it way tighter, saves like a billion seconds

For the RR tracks that have unknown WRs, the staff ghosts are a good reference time. The Tour and N64 choco mountain ghosts are pretty cracked. Jetsetter is pretty good on choco mountain too.

Something I’ve wondered as a speedrunner, do you considered yourself part of the speedrunning community? I feel like Mkwii time trials is like adjacent to speedrunning but in a lot of ways feels like their own separate community so it’d be interesting to see your thoughts on it.

I would say so yes. I've done conventional longer form 'speedrunning' of other games in the past, but for the sake of this game in particular it's just very grindy ILs which is what TTing one track entails.

Glad you're enjoying it! Competitor's best is the collective best for the entire series, not the race itself. We're still encountering a lot of tracks for the very first time in this series so it'll be mirrored as that is the first race encounter. For a few of the tracks that have been played more than once now, it doesn't change or if it is I am now putting different color font for both the competition's new best and my new best as well.
