Good deal on the ballast, always remember if you need to add air or check pressure, the valve needs to be at the top center or your gauge becomes instantly ruined. I also added AG tire sealer to both front tires. Ya need to pick up the shredder, you were draggin it in the mud.

Based on the title, I was hoping you were referring to liquid ballast! Short of a turf equipment machine, liquid ballast should be standard on delivery of a machine. My local Kioti dealer does that, all included in sale. A lot of tractor newbies aren’t aware of how important it is to have that rear weight. With the crazy capacities of these modern loaders, it’s critical. Otherwise you need a serious weight box on the 3 point. It’s hard to make up for the fluid weight.
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomesteadКүн бұрын
Where I live in the hills, liquid ballast is a must. It shouldn’t take the place of rear implement ballast. It helps keep the tractor planted, but hanging weight behind the rear axle is what really relieves stress on the front axle. I definitely recommend both depending on what work your doing. 👍

Heya Lucas, Your enthusiasm for being able to lift heavier, logs, or loads now that you have filled tires is quite obvious. You made a nice video. As I’ll be getting my tractor over the summer, I’m looking at two products Rimguard and counterweight blue and I was wondering if you had even considered counterweight blue? See you in February in Kentucky.
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomesteadКүн бұрын
Counterweight Blue is a good option. I don’t know the costs. It is a little less dense at 9lb per gallon. The dealer I bought my tractor from carries it. I had already worked out arrangements with Rim Guard. I’m really satisfied with it!

I looked at Rim Guard, but its simply way to expensive at 6$ per gallon. If your tractor took 120gallons (1200lbs as u said), its 720$ not including what they charge to do it. If you puncture a tire or have a leak, you gotta pay again to have them come out and fill it. If you had used windshield washer fluid (winter mix is 8.1lb per gal), which is also eco friendly, its 2$ a gallon, you can get it anywhere, fill it yourself if theres a leak, for 240$. This about 230lb less than the rim guard.
@ggergg6423Күн бұрын
My dealer filled my tractor tires with 126 gallons of Rimguard for $450.00 all in, that is $3.57/gallon installed, not bad in my book.
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomesteadКүн бұрын
Yeah everybody has to weigh their needs vs cost. Around here Rim Guard is closer to $5 a gallon. The difference in 8.1lb/gallon and 10.7lb/gallon is almost 30% extra weight. There is value in that.
@ggergg6423Күн бұрын
@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead Sounds like I got lucky with the Rim Guard cost.
Good video 👍 Boy did your camera and tripod take some abuse today 😂 Good demonstration of liquid ballast. Calcium ballast alternative is some nasty stuff, we had a tire puncture one time and had to sandblast and repaint the tractor to stop the corrosive rusting.
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomesteadКүн бұрын
Yeah, I’ve been pretty hard on cameras lately. This Rim Guard is definitely the move over that old corrosive stuff!

Tried to max out the tractor. What every you have you try to Max it out which wears it out quicker. What does the owners manual say you should have as ballist?
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomesteadКүн бұрын
You have to understand, I’m not operating on a daily basis maxed out. I’m demonstrating in videos here and there the limit to help others know where those limits are. I also have sponsors that help make that possible. I’m not recommending that this is how a person should operate their machine day in and day out.

I'd go a step further, and say not the first upgrade, but just like the RK version of TYMs it should be a standard feature. Even with it, my rear is light, I usually keep my rotary cutter on for more ballast year around.
@MartyHenderson-ie9sp16 сағат бұрын
Hello my friend. I guess I am going to be the one that has to mention this. Not all of us can have liquid ballast in our tires. As far as my TYM T474, I use this tractor in my yard and other people's yards and I cannot put that extra weight on them or chance making ruts and destroying the lawn. I DO however fully believe in liquid ballast and our John Deere has it as well as my International Harvester B414-D. BUT This T474 will not have it. I just hitch up my 900 pound flail mower or other heavy implement when I am doing heavy loader work. Thanks for the video my friend and tractor on.

I've been looking at getting a t474 but I've been watching your videos since you got your new tractor now I'm leaning more and more towards the 4820 the extra lift capacity would be nice how much bigger tractor is it compared to the t474 because i still want to be able to get around easy in my woods to clear trails and skid logs and from my understanding it is a 4 range transmission does it have a extra low gear thanks love all your videos keep them coming and god bless
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead18 сағат бұрын
The 4820 is about 10” wider and weighs about 600lb more. It’s a big tractor. What sold me on it was just looking over the components. If you park them side by side and compare parts like three point arms and such, you’ll see the 4820 is just much heavier built. I was a tad concerned with the size because I was stepping up from a subcompact, but I’ve yet to see a situation where the size was a disadvantage. Low range is really low. I almost never use it. High range is really high, like flat road would be the only use for it. I live in range B & C for most all of my work. Best of luck on your decision!

That is awesome. Quite the capable machine now! I bet it would lift those 3 logs at the end if you could have got the 3rd one stacked on the other 2. You probably knew that. 😄 What are those landtop forks rated at? Probably 4k? If so you do not want to lift really heavy on just one fork or it may bend something.

Yeah, I bet it would have too! They are 4K and that’s a good reminder. Thanks.

How does it work with 1200 extra pounds when the ground gets soft? Does the extra weight ever make it so that you cannot work because the tractor gets too heavy for the ground you're working on?
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomesteadКүн бұрын
I found the extra weight very handy in packing the new road build. The area I was working in in this video is pretty soft and I think it tears up the ground a little more, but it also gets traction better so I don’t see it as a negative.
