Yeah apparently Ekko had crush on Jinx when they were kids cause I heard in the game his voice lines interactions with Jinx was "I had crush until you started talking to the gun"

Ekko and Powder would play that game as kids where Ekko had a few seconds to get to Powder without getting shot. Powder has the pot on her head to protect her when Ekko is supposed to bonk her on the head. In the Enemy music video he hits the pot with his hand.

@@F1rstWorldNomaD Actually thats the beauty of this show, you're not required to like the character, every person relates or is rooting for different characters, some prefer vi, some prefer viktor, some prefer silco, etc etc. In the bridge scene, I was rooting for jinx, while my buddy was rooting for ekko. Every character has a reason, we might not agree but we usually understand why they do it. It just depends which character aligns with what we believe. Anyhoo, have a great day.

@@F1rstWorldNomaD "i don't get the hype" then "it was absolutely visually stunning" .. your contradicting yourself, but it seems you do get the hype after all.. , the animation with the music and the deeper contextual themes communicated by a sketchy child-like animation style almost as if it were being drawn by a ekko when he was a kid himself is about as appropriate of a design decision the film-makers could have made.. i don't want to use the words genius and perfect but.. and it's not just the moving images, it all started with words on a page, the better part of a decade developing characters and refining ideas, the show is a landmark in modern animation.. the hype is rarely justified anymore, but i think we have a winner with this one .. it's a brilliant show, you can't deny it, sorry you don't like it, but let other people have fun, no need to try and spoil it because it's not for you

Jinx character is so well written, sad that she tried to end herself, bc the bomb was not for ekko but herself. You can see she was tired that everyone left her behind and play to her, so she gave up realizing also that this whole time she was fighting with her childhood friend. The game that they played at the end hurt them more than the fight:(

I suppose we can only theorize why jinx lost but the fact is that she never fired that last shot we saw in the preview of the fight. Many people say it's Ekko knowing her moves so well that he could predict and dodge them but the fact that he didn't dodge the last "planned" shot that should have hit him but instead jinx never even fired it feels like it was intentional and I like to think she had already given up at that point because she realized what she was doing. Spoiler warning for the next episode Also a major detail i just recently discovered through a comment on a random arcane video is that you can hear a metal clank just before the cut away to the explosion. I never understood how they could both survive that blast but this detail insinuates that Ekko hit it away with his weapon just in time

I believe it was meant to tell that when they were kids Ekko wasn't capable of dodging that last shot, but now he is.

@@samon101 jinx has her gun pointed straight at his chest, but the gun doesn't go off. Tell me, is this dodging or did she hold her shot? Maybe you can argue that she was out of ammo, but i didn't count the shots in the flashback vs the shots in the present so i cant say.

I think that one of the writers said that Jinx didn't held back the shot. It was just Ekko using the game (deliberately or not) and his learning from mistakes against her. We saw Jinx recreating the sequence perfectly which gave Ekko the edge. I do think that she kinda held back at the end tho. This plus the grenade that was probably more for herself than for Ekko.

18:21 The animation team is INSANE. The way they had Jinx almost revert back to a child in that close up just using her facial expressions was masterful. Ekko saw Powder in that moment and couldn't do it

The loss of innocence in the Jinx v Ekko fight is so powerfully represented. It truly hurts to see these two children who were once so close to each other have no other choice but to fight each other, because of the choices of others. I was on the edge of my seat just like the first time I watched this episode. You guys are such a joy to watch a long with. Your excitement is infectious and your chemistry is adorable. I always think couples reacting are the best dynamic, but you guys take the cake. Take a breather, Ep 8/9 are fast and furious, but Im excited for you two! P.S. Kinda, sorta a rat, bat hybrid. The last scene always gets me 🥺 for a moment there that was powder who lost everything willing to just go.. She wasn't faking it That bomb was for her more than to kill ekko ( she could've easily sticked it to him like we saw before) Also in the the fight I'd like to believe that she held her last shot so they both hesitate in the fight

Exactly! So many people say it's just Ekko knowing her so well from their childhood that he can predict her shots but she doesn't fire the last one that would have hit. I'd say both are valid readings but to me it feels intentional that she's realized what they are doing and already had given up at that point

Yeah, one of the strongest theories is that Powder was probably trying to end it all - and maybe she didn’t want to be alone, even in death soooo… Ekko had to come with lol. That said, she almost definitely fired that last shot. In fact, if you pay attention to the audio, it even sounds like she fired another one after that.

fun fact, in the first act powder has gray eyes almost all the time, and jinx has blue eyes, but in the last scene when she is being punched for a few seconds she has gray eyes

Every scene with Jinx is my favorite. Even though the character archetype of "insane/chaotic, but genius villain" isn't the most original thing (like you brought up with Harley Quinn), this show did such a good job showing how a normal kid can end up like that.

Definitely. I feel like jinx's character works where many others of the archetype fail though. She has the necessary buildup, the inner conflict and the visualization of her inner demons, her trauma haunting her. She's not just a crazy whacky girl but has a history and actual depth to her because we got the first three episodes showing her as powder and these amazing moments where her old self peaks through

But also like with every stereotype there’s a grain of truth behind this trope, and it’s a very sad one in this case. The „smart kids“ are often the ones who have a higher chance of developing mental illnesses in their life. And one of the mechanics as to why that happens is that because their intellect is often ahead of their social/emotional development they perceive and remember traumatizing experiences far more detailed and in-depth than they can understand, express and deal with it and also than what their Environment expects them to/ gives them credit for. And that affects how others react/treat them in alarmist all situations. But especially in traumatizing situations when they are completely overwhelmed and cannot deal with it on their own, those kids pick up on that discrepancy but because they don’t yet know how to express what they feel/need, their environments often don’t realize what’s happening and on the inside, they feel severely misunderstood. And adding that on top of the extreme turmoil already within themselves can lead to a very destructive internalization: if I can’t understand it and all the other also SEEM to be unable to understand it, then nobody can understand it and the best reason they can think of as to why that is is that there’s something severely wrong with themselves, the only common denominator they see connecting all this. And as you’d expect once that thought is internalized it stops being questioned and from that point on corrupts many important cognitions in every part of their development. And it slowly breaks them, but by bit and they often don’t even realize that because if all your deductions have the same systematic bias they a coherent with each other and it’s really hard to identify the mistake without external help.

Ekko and Jinx fight scene is a foreshadowing of how Ekko's abilities work in the game. He can rewind time. But during that scene, he doesn't have any abilities yet and that makes it more special because it shows the attachment between both of them when they were young.

As far as official lore goes, his body doesn't heal when he rewinds... which means he has to play it REALLY smart. Think about it: making use of his ability means he has to fight several times in a row, and a single mistake at any point could cost him his life. I love his characterization in Arcane, he constantly shows he has mastered both the strategy and adaptability that will make him unstoppable when he gets his powers

That bomb wasn't for Ekko, it was for her, it was more on suicide attempt. Because the moment Vi left her again, she had lost reason to live. You see the look in Jinx's eyes when she pulls the pin? Is just heartbreaking. You can see in her whole demeanor that she lost the will to keep going. BTW guys, I love your reactions!! I love that you appreciate the intricate moments.

That was everything I was hoping for from the facial expressions in this reaction to the bridge scene in this video lol They show in the Enemy music video and in the lore that Powder and Ekko had a closer friendship as kids than what we see in the first three episodes. Ekko had a crush on Jinx too later ("until you started talking to the gun"), so everything he tells Vi about Powder being gone, he's already had to tell himself...and he still can't bring himself to finish her in the fight on the bridge.

Every time prior to this, they're used to represent beauty, hope, creativity, or something positive...and then Jinx turns them into a cluster bomb for a mass casualty attack. Really threw a hard left turn at my expectations on the bridge.

Glad to see someone paying more attention to the Ekko/Jinx relationship. I think it’s almost as big a part of Jinx’s descent as her fractured relationship with Vi. Vi was dead and gone, and has now showed up with an enemy topsider; Ekko - childhood friend and probably crush - has been actively undermining her and is now about to cozy up to topside. Everyone has betrayed her, most of all Powder’s two loves. It’s heartbreaking.

And we know that they just put heimerdinger out, because everyone had their privileges/corruption, if they hold everyone accountable they wouldn't have. And in the end we know that heimerdinger was right since the beginning otherwise, Jinx wouldn't have exploded the council in the end.

something i just realized is how ekko being the firelight leader has kind of always made sense when you think about it. every time he was shown (with the exceptions being when he’s fighting), he was perched somewhere out of sight observing everything and everyone… the same way he did as a child. always in the know. this episode was so good man!! i watched the ending fight over and over for days lol arcane has no right to be as good as it is! edit: loving your guys’s reactions as usual!

One thing I didn't notice until someone told me to watch a slowed down version or pause it at the right moment is that when Jinx starts to fire her chain gun at Caitlyn (and Vi by extension), Caitlyn literally tries to wrap herself around Vi to shield her as Vi tries to shove Cait out of the way. They are both protectors at their core. Good people wanting to do the right thing. And they also happen to have an instant, deep connection and chemistry. Plus they're hot lol.

You should always grab some people you can play normal/Aram with, makes life in the game much easier. I'm playing since 11 Years now but only played 2 or 3 ranked seasons because of how toxic the game community feels in ranked games.

The Jinx//Ekko fight was beautiful, but so incredibly sad. For a moment, Jinx had a pure happy memory of her playing with one of her friends. And then she snaps back, and she is fighting one of her former friends, trying to kill each other. She just watched her sister abandon her, AGAIN. Finally, at the end, she just wants to die. She releases the grenade, intending to go out with Ekko.

About the Ekko vs. Jinx fight. The mechanic of Ekko character in the game is that he can come back a little in time. You can fight and then use his power to rewind time for you and then fight again. Since timetravel wasn't created in Arcane (at least yet) they did this amazing job of portraiting his power as going back in time in his memories, when he and Jinx played as kinds and then predicting Jinx's moves he wins the fight. It was such a good adaptation for his mechanics and also the song and visuals... flawless.

i’ve been having a great time rewatching with you two! comments: “rat people” are shown to be a race of people in episode 4 in the “happy progress day” scene. (the mechanical bugs that jinx weaponized are also shown here; she didn’t just steal the gemstone. you see her fiddling and tinkering with those bugs in while she listens to “get jinxed”). jinx: speaking of jinx, did you notice the song she was humming in this episode is the same song she sang from the opening of the series “dear friend across the river”. that time, it was a song of reconciliation. this time she is a full on terrorist killing enforcers. that is a great touch. this show is very clever from top to bottom.

The true sad thing about Ekko and Jinx, some "deeper" lore tells taht Ekko had a crush on Jinx. And in the music video of "Enemy" you can see some additional minor scenes of Ekko and Powder having fun doing stuff together. The whole time when Ekko said to Vi that Powder is no more and all there is was Jinx, he said it to convince himself. He fought against Jinx, but after seeing her face, when Jinx lost it and returned to Powder, Ekko couldnt continue hitting her. And Jinx couldnt live with her guard down this low. And a little bonus, when Jinx said "Oh the boy savior" to Ekko on that bridge, she actually is heart broken by the fact that Ekko saved everyone but herself

Fun little facts: on the bridge when Jinx shots at Vi and Cait, you see for a split second, Caits reaction is to try and shield Vi from the bullets, and the song Jinx was humming was the one she was singing at the start of Ep1. Notice when Mel is telling them to make weapons, she never actually speaks to Viktor, and never directly looks at him but only ever moves her eyes to look down on him? I think she may actually think if him as lesser due to being a Zaunite. "there was a always a choice" like the Choice to not let the grenade go off to stop weaponized Hextech.

I really don't think Jinx wanted to save Cait, you know ... the only thing she cared about was getting the gem back. The only reason Caitlyn is the only one alive is because she's a Champion in LoL, and Champions can't die in the series.

There were several scenes throughout this series that I intentionally rewound several times to take in the scope of what was occurring, the fight between Ekko and Jinx being one of them. The creators of this show made it a point to emphasize the "little things" that were just as important as the major high points. I can't praise this show enough for how it draws you in and hooks you. Definitely not surprised that this has become the most watched series in Netflix history.

I just finished this season less than a week ago, and anything I watch since seems bland in comparison. That's how I got here. Lol, I'm experienceing that Arcane withdrawal. Anyway, you guys are so cute and funny together. It's refreshing how much you pick up from every episode, well done! This show doesn't hold their audience's hand, so it's easy to miss some details, but you guys pick up the major ones, and that's what's important. Some aren't even aparent until the end, foreshadowing and the like, so there's really a replayability factor to this show. It's really a masterful storytelling. Man that last scene was so great, specially when you know Ekko's abilities and what he is capable off. Just hope you get to see it in the future of the show (like in future seasons if we ever get to see it) without it getting spoiled to you. I feel like this show is so good that it makes people want more by the end so they go after more info on champs and then future season's wont be so filled with surprises as if they decided to wait and learn what would be of each character. Hi, psych grad here. What Riot and Fortich were conveying in this scene was Jinx's wish to die in a semi-sane state of mind along with her friend. Powder is slowly vanishing. During this fight, Ekko wanted Jinx to fight in a predictable way. She's erratic. In order to do that, he had to invoke their past childhood memories together. Jinx took the bait. However, so too did Ekko get swallowed up by the memories of the past. Because of this, they fought the same fight they did as kids. But when the time came for Ekko to take her out, the only thing he could see in her eyes was Powder. As for Jinx, she wanted to end herself in that moment before being consumed by her insanity. This scene is probably one of the most powerful in the series. While completely insane, it's also one of confort to Jinx knowing she can die as Powder alongside her closest friend. Riot did a fantastic job showing Jinx's mental decline. Though they could have gone much further into detail of her mental health deterioration, they did 'leagues' better than what most movies and anime portray. Jinx has one of the saddest stories in the League universe.

Something I like to do is give some people knowledge based on what we know in League of Legends. So here: The guy that Viktor met as a child and took the shimmer from is the same man that was in the lab inside Silco's hideout, the guy who said "Feeding time" while putting the cat in the tank and when the hideout was blown up the guy we saw turn as the fire went towards him in the underwater area. His name is Singed and he's a champ in the game.

One thing that isn't told in the show is that Ekko had a crush on Powder when they were younger. One of Ekko's voice lines from the game is, "I had a crush... until you started talking to the gun." That's the reason he wasn't able to kill Jinx at the end, because he saw her eyes change from blue (representing Jinx) back to grey (Powders eye colour when she was a kid).

The way I interpreted the Ekko vs Jinx scene was that: He used the ticking and the swing to create a beat. He then used the beat as a source of inspiration to try and think of how this fight would go(Hence the insanely animated scene). And when he stopped the watch, he’s done with his prediction and he’s ready to win. That’s why in the other scene, the style is so different, cuz it’s just in his head and had to learn from it. They play with jinx's eye colours as a way of communicating her mental state. At the start of the fight they are a vibrant blue but by the time ekko stops hitting her she's already stopped fighting back and her eyes are completely void of colour representing how she's lost all hope and will to carry on. I feel like the crow represents how jinx believes death follows her? Something like that. The ekko jinx scene works on so so many levels. Emotionally, the story it tells about him and jinx, the music, the way he's using their old game to predict jinxs shots, also its a light reference to the character from the games and what he can do (which he can't do in the show yet)

Fun stuff in this episode: Silco is holding his breath at the Chem-Baron meeting. He takes a deep breath just as Sevika opens the canister and another one before giving up the last rebreather. You can hear Vi picking the lock while she and Ekko are talking. But only when they are talking, she's using that to cover the sound. Powder and Jinx have different eye colors. On the bridge before the epic animation we see Jinx's bright blue eye, during the epic animation, we see Powder's powder gray eyes. Her eyes are still gray when Ekko mollywhops her and when she pulls the pin. In an earlier scene after Jinx staples herself up, Powder lays back and points at a firelight. Her eyes turn blue just as she pulls the trigger, indicating that Jinx is gunning for the firelights. Ekko's laugh on the bridge is not one of amusement. He tricks Jinx into becoming Powder because he's wearing a bullet proof chestplate where he used to wear the target when they played. The clock tics as he waits until he's sure it's Powder instead of Jinx. (I guess Vi telling him a bunch of times that Powder's still in there was for a reason.)
