This can easily be mistaken for a Carol Burnett Show sketch with Walter Mathau as the guest star even tho this is a dramatic show.

Bob Mackie designed her "Eve" outfit; Al Schultz, her make-up man, worked on this episode, too.

This is superb. It is almost reminiscent of Thornton Wilder.

Interesting story about this episode in Father Kieser's book. He says it came out so well that he took it to NBC to see if they wanted to run it as a prime-time special, and they agreed. He was thrilled as this would be a breakthrough. Father Kieser then went back to ask permission to everyone involved with the episode, since they agreed to a typical Insight non-commercial syndicated airing, and not a network prime-time special. He says most were thrilled, but some said no, and one unnamed person would not even meet with Father Kieser about it. He wrote the person, and got a response from the person's lawyer, saying the answer is still no, and not to contact his client again. Of course, the episode would not air on NBC primetime. I wonder who the mystery person was.

I may be wrong but I think that because her show was still on at that time and on another network, I'd say it was Carol Burnett.

Walter Matthau still had a good movie career going at the time. I’m guessing he didn’t want to appear on a network primetime special.

Maybe Matthau, with Ukrainian Jewish ancestry, did not want his appearance in a Christian tv show shown widely.

I remember this episode being mentioned in the tv guide at the time it came out in the seventies.

How do the Paulists get all these "A" List stars to do their shows?

It was our founder, Fr. Kieser! He was determined to make it happen!

At 23:25, did Matthau make a mistake saying "president", or was the line written in the script that way?

That's a good question--it certainly sounds like a flub to us!
