finally some advice that helps me, stuck in c1 for like 1-2 years now, got close to c2 but never reached it. the spacing is what im doing wrong, i am too far away which doesnt lead to overcommitting for me most of the time, but just simply no goals / not enough pressure. i definitely need to really think about this spacing the next time im playing. since im playing solo Q only, i developed a pretty defensive playstyle, since most mistakes of teammates come from overcommiting. but this might be the thing that will help me the most. im glad i watched the video 👍

Well at some point it is better to not solo Q. I know its tough since friends playing this game or even at the same skill level are rare. Still besides your own issues, you having to adapt to different playstyles in every new match just makes it that much harder on yourself.

@@FlexNikoI highly recommend finding a league, it helps finding some orgs who run their own seasons for games. Granted milage may vary but you can always find folks around the same skill level to play with. If you want to stick with a team for a long time, I recommend a org based sign up league such as Los Champs, Royalty Series, Rocket League Splash Series, BlackLine Championship series, or orgs along that line. If you want more community/draft based, I recommend orgs such as Mystic Rocket League (just started), United Rogue (around for 5 or 6 years), RSC, Minor League Esports (7 years of activity), or Rocket Underground (going into their 4th season after their playoffs). The draft based ones typically lead to orgs developing communities to be welcoming to players and encourage people to find games outside RL and in RL. If you are EU based, I know Royalty Series has a EU circuit as well.

For me the biggest thing about this play at 4:30 is the thought, what do you think you win out of hitting the ball with a flip into the corner, are you hoping for a miracle of hitting the corner wall and beating both opponents and it ending up in goal (VERY little chance) or the more probable outcome is that you will hit it into the wall and you opponents will get a head start on you back towards you goal because your flip will not resolve immediately with a ball going fast already. Dont flip into corners... fake challenge and turn back or at very least only do a drive challenge and skip the flip. Im no coach but I do think that a lot of intermidiate players could follow Cbells advice and stop flipping into challenges to minimize overcommits.

Yes. In situations like this you should fake challenge and shadow till your tm8 gets boost. If the opponents tm8 was out of the play, I would challenge without flipping since I can assume that the person on the ball has no boost or either no momentum. A key skill is predicting how much boost you opponent has and whether challenging leads to your tm8 having possession or you challenging or perhaps demoing to have a quick counter attack. Momentum really carries an impact in whether your play is effective. Especially at low boost like in the replay, the guy should’ve definitely not only picked up more pads but also fake the challenge for his tm8 while also watching out for the mid pass or bump from the other opponent.

On the mistakes in shadowing, "covering the corner", i do the same thing as this player, but it's not about covering the corner at all. The intent is to make sure the entire threat space is in front of the car, so that when the dribbler makes their move you can drive as fast as you can to cut off the ball, because it won't be possible for them to cut the ball back behind you. It's like covering the goal from the back post... You're not trying to cover the back post, your trying to cover everything in front of it. I'm sure Jack's right, but as analyzed is hard to reconcile what we're trying to do with what we're supposed to be trying to do, without making things worse.

One thing I found odd that Jack didn't mention was the off-ball boost managment. I noticed that often our player would be boosting to get to a better position, primarily when they are in an "awkward" position. Oftentimes, it is preferable to simply flip or even just drive to where we need to be, so that you may preserve your boost for when you do need to hit the ball. One of my old teammates back in diamond had this issue, (probably more anxiety related lol) and once they figured it out, they immediately found themselves in better positions when trying to make a play on the ball.
@BulkybearOG7 ай бұрын
I hover between d3 and c1 usually and usually play 2s. I do the same thing, keep a lot of space between my teammate and me. Reason is because every single time I've tried being closer the opponent will hit, 50, or pinch the ball right over my head into my goal......
@snarkybark7 ай бұрын
I think you're right... When I fall down to plat this happens more often so I feel I have to gap more to avoid giving up goals and falling further in rank. Up a couple ranks into diamond, and teammates seem to be better at picking and executing their fifties, long goals aren't as frequent and second man can play closer in support. So the advice is good for a D3 because he's probably got a teammate that can prevent the ugly long goals as first man.

Great vid! At 27:30 you say that the teammate is really bad the whole game, but IMO he is simply compensating for the playstyle of the guy you're reviewing. The guy under review is often a full pitch length behind him, not involved in the play, leaving him to hang, right? Then it's not really a surprise then that gimpotent goes for touches when he shouldn't be, because in his mind, his teammate probably isn't there. And he can't see him with ball cam. This is a prime example how inconsistent positioning creates confusion that drags a team down. It would even be better if J0d0H always positions a full pitch behind (consistently). When I play with ultra wide spacing players like this, as long as they are consistent, there's really no problem (although of course I prefer a more supporting player).

One video I feel is missing from youtube, is how to get control touches in the air. I mean, (what direction to rotate car & when should I be pulling back or pushing forward on different touches in the air). There is literally nothing on this subject on youtube, but its a whole science. Currently I have discovered some stuff out on trial an error - but I think that would be an unique video to make. For example, wall to air tribble, you sometimes don't need to boost towards the ball to get height on it (to stay controlled) but just directional air roll in the way that your car corner hits the lower part of the ball, so it gets height or if you pitch forward on the first touch it sets you up for double taps etc. At least as diamond III, close to champ who tries to learn (300h currently on track) it's really frustrating that I don't know how to get control touches on air (and what part I should be hitting ball with + pitching / rotating) + It's way harder to get it in trial & error, because you need to set it up every time (on ground its easier to practice control touches by trial & error)
@Frozen_RL7 ай бұрын
The general idea of getting controlled air touches is you need to play the opposite side of the ball as you want it to go. If you need the ball to stay high in the air, your car nose needs to be lower on the ball. If you want to push the ball right, then it needs to be on the lower left corner. Also, if you want to get more controlled air dribbles, try to not boost when you are about to make the first touch. This will lightly tap the ball and give you the chance to glue it to your car. I think the main reason why there aren’t videos on air roll is because it’s something that becomes muscle memory after a while. It’s really hard to explain how to use it in every situation because it just feels natural once you have thousands of hours in the game.

Analyzing games below C2 is so hard to watch. Something I notice all the time is that the last guy back is never comfortable with that position. Get good at 1s, learn shadow defense. @@MatttKelly Being a defensive-first player and capitalizing on mistakes is a great start to switching up your mindset from Diamond into Champ and beyond. Defense is such a lost skill nowadays where the player-base is idolizing mechanics over fundamentals, but... "I can now sit in net and almost guarantee mvp in a game (assuming we win ofc) but Im very hesitant to leave sometimes." This is the wrong mindset as you climb the ranks where shots come at net faster, from tighter angles and with the help of more mechanics; if you're sitting in net without momentum, it makes making these saves way more difficult. It's easier and more boost-efficient speeding up while you already have /some/ momentum (no need to be supersonic 24/7) than stopped in net. Majority of my last man defensive saves come from driving across the net where you have more coverage. Agreed with harj812 as well, RL is always situational and is a game where information should enforce your decision making, which just comes with more time and experience. If you're focused on improving and recognizing and capitalizing on fixing your mistakes, you'll climb the ranks :)

I'm also wondering, if I have the option for a poor 50 on their side of the field or to head back, maybe pick up some pads, and look for a better opportunity. (Situational ofc) but I should always look for better chances even if it means pulling back instead of pushing forward (assuming the 50 would be bad/not ideal) Sometimes I don't know when to push forward and when to pull back so I play it safe and pull back

I understand that I need to get height on the ball (on touches like you mentioned on aerials), the issue is, i don't know how to get the height touch & to stay close to the ball (the area where to hit the ball and how should i rotate my car to make it stay close). Usually how it goes 21:57 - this is very common in diamond III The issue that (at least I as a diamond III div 3-4 player feel), is that if i try to get to the lower part of the ball, after the touch, ill be in front of the ball, because I didn't speed it up enough, if i touch it as the player in the video, I just give the possession away. (or I get beat to the ball) I've only played this game 300h, but yeah, I'm stuck in diamond III with a really similar gameplay. I do like the points where you tell where or how to position, very useful - I noticed from my replays that I'm covering the corner as well in 1 v 1 situations, gonna fix that..

Rotate earlier, give up on a few plays, create a vacuum your teammate is forced to drive into. He can't stay back forever if you're literally behind him and no one is challenging the ball. This won't work in bronze, but I've jump started a few rotations this way in plat and diamond.

@snarkybark I'm in D3/C1 and still get tm8s that do that and I will do what you just said and forcefully go behind them, this results in them being super uncomfortable on the ball, throwing away possession, and leaving me in a 2v1, and when I try and give up on plays earlier to force them to move up and play it then results in us getting boost starved on our half, it just always seems like a lose lose situation no matter what

At 34:26 you point out the mistakes he should never go for that ball, yet he did but his following recovery is what actually made this mistake so fatal. If he recovered half way decent he would have been back first and would have been able to defend instead of leaving an open net for a counter attack. I think the lack of recovery was not stressed enough. Also at 20:07 he gets a bumb and it was a good bumb for him but again his lack in recoveries made him loose all the momentum. He needs to learn to hold the drift button when getting bumbed like that.
@MatttKelly7 ай бұрын
While I can't disagree with anything Jack says of course, I think he still has a very pro mindset. After peaking champ 1 and getting 5 Diamond tournament wins this season, I can say the #1 way to get into champ 1 is to slow down and always cover your net. Defense first. Capitalize on the opponents mistakes. The goals aren't handed out for free anymore, but If you play smart, slow, and defensively, there is a much higher chance the opponents mess up before you do. Thus leading to a goal. After 1k+ hrs and now lv2500 I had to completely rework what I was doing. Now I'm capable of dropping 1k in D3 games just sitting in net and making clears and taking controlled posession. I return behind my tm as soon as I can no longer make a good play on the ball, pick up some pads, check if i need to turn and make a save or block, then if not just sit in net till the ball comes my way basically. I opt to stay closer to the net cause it gives me time to pick the perfect moment to strike. I would say more than 60% of goals scored by either team are unsavable due to poor positioning or mistakes at this rank. Just be patient, and your time will come. Think how often you see your tms throw themselves at the ball randomly. It's your job as the "better player" to compensate for their mistakes. If they ball chase just yeet it out from the goal line and pass to them and return back asap for the defense and another clear. Its all about predicting what your opponents will do and playing accordingly.

Despite that when I call my solo-queue teammates "plats" in chat they start scoring 5 goals a minute, idk the science behind it but that's how I rank up

If you're a tier 3 sub to him on twitch you i guess can send replays to him and he might choose your game to review

It’s a common problem with replays. He got the boost just didn’t show because it got rewinded

playing with randoms I agree, but cheating is not always better. Especially when players don't know how to properly cheat.

“Simple tip” - 40m video
@randomguydoes29017 ай бұрын
Constructive criticism for you: Use slow-motion during your talking points instead of pausing and skipping back and forth so much, it's jarring. Watch from 19:30 to 20:40 and see how many interruptions there are. Camera switching is what it is without a script and editing of course, but try the slow mo out more often to keep the skipping and pausing at a minimum. This trick is helpful to redeem the spontaneous nature of instructive videos made on-the-fly.

My only problem with these replay analysis’ is that what a pro would do is a totally different than what a mid rank player would/should do. His very first comment about that clear is an example. Both opponents were out of position. If he gets more power on that shot then it’s a goal. A lot of goals in 2s at lower ranks are open net clears. It’s all good info I’m just saying that it’s very different from rank to rank.
@ozfunghi7 ай бұрын
I was thinking the same thing, that's an open net, and even if he shoots off target, the bounce will always offer an opportunity. I have the same issue with Flakes' R2SSL series. Not committing, faking, "simple touches" etc... sure, that's all well and good when you have the ball/car control to put the ball where you want it with one touch, when you decide to actually make the play. But when you are a Plat, it doesn't work like that. So "doing it easy" with a couple of single touches, is just not realistic at that rank, because the ball will bounce all over the place when you try to play like that, and you are far better off booming the ball any which way, away from your own goal. Of course, if it is to learn long term and become better in the end, this makes sense. If it is to improve your result short term, it does not.

Players in this rank are not comfortable with grabbing pads and pathing, i would suggest you go into freeplay without unlimited boost and trying to just drive around and grab pads

Jack why dont you upload these on your main channel its peak RL content it would get more views there and people would like it i think?
@aoaoao-pe2ec7 ай бұрын
unfortunately, viewer retention/view to click rates are incredibly important for the algorithm. If Jack uploaded these videos to his main channel, they would hurt his reach because these deep analysis videos don't get as many clicks per views/don't retain viewers for as long a percentage of the video as his regular, shorter videos.
