Great video and I will definitely be using that object feature. I really mostly use Lightroom because for me it is more intuitive. I do run into limitations with it and I just need to get better/more comfortable with photoshop. Thanks Michael for the great video!!

2:17 A similar way to dampen the effect of the select sky mask is to intersect it with a linear mask coming down from the top. The end result is basically the same but just thought I'd share :)

I got a little lost with the sky, I'll have to rewatch that. Doing different things in one mask is still tricky for me.

It’s a bit tough to get at first, but play around a bit and just push buttons on some photos with the masks. It’s a bit of a crude technique. But it’s how I learned everything in LR and PS. Just push buttons and see what they do haha 😂

Wonderful pano of the Goosenecks Micheal. I know from experience that it isn't the easiest shot since your are more or less limited (or at least were in the past) to photographing from the parking/picnic area. This puts you quite close to a very wide vista when trying to include both Goosenecks in the image. In your video, I don't think you covered the very powerful 'Intersect Mask with' feature. I use this all the time on skies: I create a Sky mask and then intersect it with either a Color or Luminance mask to target the aspect of the sky that I want to adjust. This way there is no risk that the edits will 'spill over' into other areas of the image that have similar colors or luminance. Might be a interesting subject for a part two of this video.

Great video and tips! Now, I wish that with all of that empty real estate at the top of LR that Adobe would put all of the Masking features there as buttons instead of all of the sub-icons and drop-downs it currently has. I also second that suggestion about including HSL abilities in the Masking features as well.

Lightroom is so awesome to use. I love editing with it. The masks are so powerful and you can do so much with them. Great vid.

I recently discovered the intersect option for combining masks. It allows you to combine two masks such that the resulting mask contains only the parts selected by both masks. As a data engineer this makes my brain happy and I often prefer working with intersections over subtractions. Give it a try some time!

I’m having a strange issue with Lightroom. Every time I “select object”, my girlfriend lights up in red!😂😂 In all seriousness though… I am with you: I want to see them add HSL sliders to the mask section and while they’re at it, they should add the same noise, reduction, and sharpness tools as in the edit tab.

You can fix the sky/horizon harsh line by clicking on the sky mask; select the 3 dots to open drop down menu; click Intersect with; click on sky; hit enter. It separates the sky edits from bleeding outside the sky/horizon.

Great tutorial! You know what sucks though, Adobe thinks that we who edit on iPad don’t want some of these tools. For some reason they are dead set on NOT making Lightroom on iPad as powerful as LrC. Makes no sense to me.

I don't know about LR because I rarely use it if I only have a couple of pix to work on but in Camera Raw - which has pretty much the same tools - all you have to do to add another Object mask is just paint over it. No need to go to Add to select a new object, just paint one and move on to the next

Another great video. On your sky selection, invert the mask, then hit subtract and select sky and then invert it again and you will have a better sky selection. This works really well around trees.

I mean that’s great that you know all the Lightroom masking tools and ways to use them. That just means this tutorial wasn’t for you, many others felt the video was valuable for them. Perhaps there will be a video in the future that you will find something new in, or not. that’s really out of my control, I just do what I can here.

Thanks for a great clip, Michael. That masking tool was very impressive. I've used ON1 which makes a big noise about its "AI masking tools", but what you've shown in LR is far superior, IMO. I'd love to see how it goes on things like trees and frizzy hair...so I'll get hold of a demo and try it out.

Gooseneck is such an awesome place! I flew my drone the last time I was there and shot the entire thing from above. It's so huge when you're up close. Really amazing! I always forget about the object selection for masks. I've been combining masks and even using the intersect feature but thanks for reminding me about the object selection. What a great time to be a Photographer!

I use the “Intersect” feature with LR masking a lot. For a sky gradient I bring it down over the sky and you can click the 3 dots or the “option” key and select “intersect” with the sky. I’m still finding different ways to use the “Intersect” feature and I don’t see a lot of KZbinrs mention it.

Great Video. You can also intersect mask like a linear gradient and the sky by holding to alt-key on windows. (I guess option on mac). It’s a similiar effect to your eMask on the sky in the first shot.
