Many years ago, a pair of my favourite leather shoes has a slit close to the sole. After the "expert" of a cobbler chain confirmed it is beyond repair, I threw them away. Two days later, I found the pair of shoes with the slit nicely mend. My dad said the old cobbler stall at our HDB block could repair it. Nowadays, most shoes are put together by super glue, not by stitches. As a result, the finer skills of cobbler trade is fading away in most countries.
