Thanks buddy, that's awesome. I love to know that I'm helping motivate people to get around and see this place. I actually find that a lot of people who move to Newfoundland get out to explore the different parts of the island, and that's awesome. If these videos are the way for me to leave my mark on NL, I'll take it!

My husband and I are visiting Newfoundland next Spring for our friends wedding and are planning to explore the island. While upon researching a little bit everything looks wonderful and worth visiting, it is videos like this one that tell you more about the story behind a place, that just make me soo excited to visit and see it for myself.

Beautiful video, beautiful town. Spent nearly four years in Newfoundland when my Dad was stationed in Argentia in the early 60's. We went back in 1990 for two weeks which was long enough for my wife and daughter to fall in love with the island. I really miss Newfoundland and hope to someday go back for an extended stay. Thanks for the videos you post, you do an awesome job.

Thank You, Mark, for this very informative video about Beautiful Bonavista! Another great post!😊 Brings back wonderful memories of our vacation in NL for the Cabot 500! We were not in Bonavista on that particular day, as you were, but we did get a close up look at the ‘Matthew’ years later at her berth in Bristol, England!

Were you in St. John's for any of the events? There was a bunch of big concerts and I remember they shut down most of the streets downtown for a big busker festival (that still happens but this was the first year that I remember it happening). So many good memories of that summer!

@@mark_royle_newfoundland We were there that summer but not for any of the scheduled ‘big name’ visitors, etc. We just enjoyed the couple days of festivities on our way up to Labrador where we usually spent summers when we travelled out that way! Bought the t-shirts though and we still have them! Yes, there were some 500 Anniversary activities in Goose Bay as well! Great memories, for sure!:-)

I visited Bonavista for the first time this past spring. Never been there before as, like yourself, I don't have any family or friends who live there, that I know of at least. Friends and I rented a AirBnB in Trinity Bay North In Mid-April and we took the dart up the highway to visit Bonavista for the afternoon. Great little town. For a small town, it has a fair size to it. I was honestly surprised. We were hoping that the museum that the Matthew is stored in was open, but it wasn't open for the season quite yet which I think it opens for the summer in May. I was a 9 year old kid in 1997 when the Cabot 500 celebrations were on going. I remember bits and pieces of it. Particularly when the Matthew sailed into St. John's harbour and we tried to get the best vantage point to see it come in but some Canadian Naval ships were tied up there at the same time and took away a lot of the viability to see it. The crowd was huge that evening when it happened. It would be neat to see some sort of documentary about that celebration. I know there is a few videos on youtube of the live broadcasts from CBC of a lot of it but it'll be cool to see the planning of it all and how they built the replica ship and how they sailed across the Atlantic in it safely. Even to this day, driving around St. John's and metro, I do still see a very small number of older cars driving with the Cabot 500 license plates lol Particularly a Red 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier Convertible I seen a year or two ago lol

My memories are kind of all over the place when it comes to all the events that summer but I defintiely remember the giant crowd when the Matthew came into St. John's. I also love spotting the odd Cabot 500 license plate. Not many of them around anymore but you can see them once in a while. I have a framed photo of my dad's license plate still.

Thanks for sharing this video. Your opening line in the video is exactly how I feel about Bonavista too. Actually just did a 2-week trip as a family of 3 just a couple of weeks ago in NL and we stayed in Bonavista 3 nights! But this was my 4th trip out to NL in the last 9 years! And Bonavista has always been on the itinerary 😊 There's something about Newfoundland that makes you always come back. You'll only understand when you're there ❤ (The comment about some of the roads not being so good up that way is so true! 😅😅). Im also hopeful those businesses that open in Bonavista continue to thrive, as with others in the other communities ❤ love Newfoundland! Your videos are wonderful, keep them coming! And I noticed you were wearing a Mary Brown's hoodie 👍👍

I really like your videos, but to be honest, the background music is odd and doesn't work. Celtic music (instrumental) playing in the background, would be most appropriate and give a good feel for the places and Newfoundland culture. Thanks very much.

To each their own! Everyone who makes videos about Newfoundland does this and I love traditional Newfoundland music, but there's more to music in Newfoundland than just fiddles and accordions.
