This was a room full of legends coming together for the children in Africa. Quincy Jones told them to leave their egos at the door and they did most came from the award ceremony and others flew in and recorded this all in one night for charity to help Africa. This will probably be the only time this many legends hit one stage together and make such a great song. We were Blessed to have this many great singers and legends back then. Loved your reaction.

All equipment and studio time was donated, and all the artists did it completely free. They started coming in around 8PM with some coming straight from the American Music Awards and worked on this all night until about 8 or 9 the next morning. There was no autotune used with this, one because none of this talent needed autotune and two autotune didn't exist until 1998 when Cher used it in her single Believe.

Beautiful story for you! I work as a counselor an addiction in the 1980s and 90s and when this song came out and we would go to the dances at the AA clubs they had for everyone to enjoy on the weekends but good music and dancing but not in a bar. We would get up to a hundred or so people and it would be some good times. When this song would come on everybody in the room with their arms around one another and sing this song together as one! It made me cry every time because they were saving their lives as well. The gratitude in the AA and NA rooms was amazing! Beautiful Beautiful song that represents overcoming almost impossible odds, together as one😂❤

While you may not recognize them by face, there are a lot of these artists that you I hope you at least recognized by name. Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, Billy Joel, Steve Perry, Daryl Hall and John Oates, Cyndi Lauper, Waylon Jennings, Bob Dylan, The Pointer Sisters, Harry Belafonte, Ray Charles, Bette Midler, Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac, most of MJ's siblings - Latoya, Marlon, Randy, Tito, Jackie (but not Jermaine), Dan Aykroyd and a few others that at this point I wouldn't expect you to necessarily have heard of. But definitely big names at the time If you haven't heard of at least 3/4 of that list, we are definitely doomed🤭

I was a teenager when this came out!!! This song should have had a bigger impact then it did, but musical lovers loved it!! They went cross genres on this in the 80's!! Ray Charles, Lionel Ritchie, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, Dianna Ross, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Cindy Lauper, One of the guys from Journey, I can't think of his name. So many more from the 80's genre!! They came together with MJ because of the AIDS epidemic that was rampant in Africa at the time. I believe that was the cause at the time. I can't remember for sure because I was a teen. But I believe Michael Jackson wrote it and brought all the Big names in to sing it.

I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, but I recognize every single person in the room, I guess that just tells my age. Ha!Ha!Ha! I love it when young people discover this song, it does irritate me that you isolated the talent of Michael Jackson, like he was the only important person here, I'll get over it, Sure he was talented but there were so many other talented people in that room, in fact all of them! Surely by now you must have learned who some of these great people are? I love watching you react to things, and I know this seems a little knitpicky but you aren't the only person that singles him out. I mean he's in the same room as Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, I noticed at the end, finally you mentioned him but were scared you were misnaming him! Bob Dylan's in there, Cyndi Lauper, Dionne Warwick and the list is long. Anyway I will come back, I enjoy my time with you regardless of little things that bother me, I'd do nothing if I stopped for that reason! Ha!Ha!Ha! Have a great weekend!
