I love this. I've been a regular visitor to Mallorca since I was 6 weeks old as my mother lived there in the 60s. It hurts my heart that the old can and mason restaurants of my childhood as steadily closing down and being replaced by pizza places. Mallorcan food is amazing but you tend to have to go to the interior, the Pla, to really get the best of traditional cooking.
@spainrevealedКүн бұрын

Amazing, informative tour! Love the collab aswell. Alex is so soothing and definitely the go-to for all things Mallorca. One thing James - when doing your voiceovers I notice intermittent popping noises on my earphones. I believe these are called 'plosives' coming from certain sounds like 'p'. It is a pet peeve of mine because I was noticing throughout my own content . A pop shield would work a treat if you're not already using one. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed the video. Can you do a video on Benidorm next please? 😂 I hear it's actually a multi-faced city (and warm in January)

3 years I lived in Palma just up from Santa Catalina. Best things; coca de trampò, sobrasada and the variety of fuets in the markets that you can't really get anywhere else. In Mercado Olivar you can get dried tomato, garlic, truffle and super spicy fuet which is my favourite. You can't find them in Valencia or even Barcelona markets 👌🏼
@LaughterCigarКүн бұрын
Oh mannn, I'm from Mallorca, now living in Madrid and you just made me tear up thinking about the specialty fuets from Mercat de l'Olivar. I lived right behind the market for 7 years and those fuets were like crack to me. My favourite was the onion one.

I used to visit Mallorca every year from the UK. Now I'm in Australia, not so often. This video opened my eyes to so much I didn't know about Palma - except for the one thing that I did know. A meal at Ca'n Pedro's Restaurant was always a MUST and we ordered snails every time! I seem to remember Pedro himself was a fixture, manning the till. Now it looks like the kids have taken over.

GREAT vlog! I live in Portugal and there are some who are anti immigrant , but for the most part the Portuguese are very welcoming! So, the take away is that it's not all Spanish people, just a fraction! A lot of businesses rely on tourism, but I guess there must be a balance!! Food looks great, but the snails...I'm with Alex!😁

Thank you for the vid. I've always enjoyed your educational fun food presentation. I'm Filipino, so I messaged my mom about the origin of Ensamadas. I'm torn on the tourism. As you recapped and closed out the episode like you always do, the Spanish people and communities are so homey and down to earth friendly. That is probably the biggest attraction (and the history). But you all need a break from the world sometimes. I wish there was a balance. Anyway, thank you and your friend for the vlog.

I lived there (San Augustin) in the early 80s. It looks so different. When I was there the marinas were just starting to pop up. I am not sure I would want to go back if the focus on tourism is really as strong as it appears here. I would miss the little old men sitting outside the mercados to chat with you as you walk by and the quiet feel of the mornings in the back alleys, feeling like you are the only one around. Looks way too commercialized and busy for me

Another video, another banger, James 🔥 I grew up on the island and lived in Palma for 7 years, and I think you did the city justice in the short time you had. I've been living in Madrid for three years now, so thanks for taking my mind away from the cold Meseta, even for half an hour. By the way, if you're ever interested in making a sequel (I hope you do!), I recommend you get out of Palma and explore the Part Forana (basically anything that is outside of Palma). There are some super unique and charming villages where you can really get a taste of Mallorcan culture and traditions at their best.

palma is a great city, it has everything you need. october to april is great, but in the summer the tourism gets too much, the streets get absolutely packed. even with the huge array of bars/cafes/restaurants in the centre it can be difficult to find anywhere to get a drink. i can understand the frustrations of the locals on that issue.

I feel as though Europe fails to realize that overtourism is a *global* phenomenon that's been causing havoc post COVID. We lived in FL and the overtourism and intra-migration caused what was once an affordable state to become too expensive to afford. **Every place** has experienced gross inflation. We now live in Portugal and the Portuguese incessantly blame foreigners for raising their prices...instead of looking within and wondering why their government isn't trying to improve their lot in life. The Portuguese xenophobic sentiment has driven a wedge between locals and foreigners. To those that say they're warm and welcoming, you clearly don't live here.

Spaniards are polite and a large number of them vote PP for some reason...because they are self-employed. They live off tourists and are totally opposed to measures that regulate. What they don't understand is that the places become totally uninteresting for most tourists when there are no locals..everything looks like a Disney variant. Yes, there are tourists who want that variety, as long as it's warm and there's enough alcohol.
