Just to clarify a point made in this video, because I am familiar with the backend of GDQ runs, being the backup runner does *not* guarantee you a space on the runner’s commentary team. That is decided entirely by the runner alone, and they have a lot of factors that go into it. It can even be changed last minute, like when gymnast86 invited me to comm his Tears of the Kingdom run a few days before the run. Just putting it out there.

I mean it still raises $2 million each event for charity, and attending the event itself is a blast, especially since I get to hang out and make new friends from all over the world thanks to this cool community :) Overall, GDQ is still one of my favorite things ever

I've been watching every agdq/sgdq since 2012, to me as a viewer, it never lost its touch. I don't know what do you mean by "prestige", because it's still one of the biggest speedrunning event. The fact that, it still manage to raise more than a million with each major events, for almost a decade now, is amazing! I can understand that you miss the very "amateurish/oldschool" era but then again it's not really something that's possible anymore for an event like that to exist and it's not gdq's fault. I'm just grateful GDQ/ESA/BSG/Speedons and all the others marathon is a thing at all and that I'm still able to experience it in my life. I just want them all to continue to exist for as long as they can!
