@@vwestlife There is this family story, i don't know how true it is, whitechapel jewish thing, that some member of the family used to keep all of their money in their pillowcase. One day they died and the pillowcase was just thrown away, and then someone else in the family asked them where it went. My dad once sold my Mum's VW polo in early 2000s I think and left a load of money in the glove compartment. Sore topic now of course.

I had a similar scenario. I trash picked a seat from an auction house. My wallet got swallowed down the side, and I proceeded to kick the crap out of it to get it back. It not only gave me back my wallet, it coughed up a bank envelope with $600 in 25+ year old notes. The newest being from 1969. This was in 1995.

I can't tell you the amount of crap I've picked up either out of garbage or on the side of the road that I've fixed and sold. I've found money in machines many times before. Once in a 60's Zenith console unit I picked up at a swap-meet was an envelope with $500 under the amplifier section. That Zenith console unit was also an easy profitable fix and sell. Only thing really wrong with it was an audio output tube and the turntable needed some love. One cassette deck I opened once had an envelope with a few hundred in it. Found a diamond ring in a VCR more than once...LOL Also found sandwiches in those before though....LOL Funniest thing I ever found was a top dental plate in a Betamax... LOL Seems like VCR's often times had some foreign object floating around in them. All of my lawn care equipment is either given to me or come from the road side. In fact I find and fix a lot of lawn care stuff. Most of it is pretty simple to work on to me. One man's trash is another man's treasure sometimes..... People just throw everything away now. If you got nothing in it and it's worth something working, it's at least worth your time to look at. Then again you know there are not really a lot of techs around anymore to fix the older electronics and machines, so you see them at the roadside a lot. Cheers buddy! 🍻 -Al

The next thing to do is go check the others, maybe they have notes in them to. It's a pity you didn't get other electronic stuff from the same house. Your right though what a bonus and what a find. That should put a small dent in your Canadian living expenses. One thing I have been thinking, in the year 2000 it wouldn't have been such a great hiding place, first thing anyone is going to take when they break in is the old VCR. I'm surprised you even uploaded the money envelope, or if you did not tell us so much about the stash. I don't think I could work out how much is there from the limited exposure, but thousands of people, someone may just jag it but if it was mine I would be able to tell you exactly how much was there and the type of bills they were. I think your exceedingly honest in even entertaining the thought someone can come claim it. But you know the saying what goes around comes around, what you lose on the swings you gain on the roundabouts. Nice video. As to the money it could not have happened to a more deserving guy and for a prospective owner a more honest guy.

I didn't show what it came out of as i knew people would be claiming it was theirs. So far nobody has identified what it was found in or how much they put in. It was something i picked up at the side of the road but so far nobody has been able to identify it or what color the envelop was or If there was a card with a first name ect. I left all that info out but if someone saw it and could prove it then they could have it. Those notes are from late 90s so they are very old.

A nice and interesting find, sufficient to buy some new probes? Anyway, every family has a story of such stashes that caused problems, but far less people tell they actually find something hidden somewhere and make it public... This is generally causing more problems that you could envision, first with people claiming the found, to the financial services claiming their shares. I would never post such video unless special date circumstances! I have an ancestor who lived in an apparent poverty at the Belgium border and a known repetitive invasion route for German army. Her house was filthy, as she lived with poultry and a goat, and never heating it. When she died, some cousin went to try to clear the house and lit the stove as it was in a freezing winter. Some minutes later, a neighbour knocked the door alarming about something strange with paper ashes falling everywhere and troubling facts as he asked whom to pay the rent. They he realized there were piles of bills burning in the furnace, and that everytime her house went too dirty, she bought another one and rent the old one for cheap, to finally own half the village houses... And I also have stories about VHS cassettes used to hide money in plain view, CD changers transformed into cash dispenser and some theft deterrent artifacts like false soup cans (no Campbell ones), and it's modern variant with old computers used to store Bitcoin ownership codes (you ask why hard disk retrieving industry is some interesting business?).

That part was recreated just to stop the trolls claiming it was theirs. But if by chance the real person that lost it knows it's theirs they can contact me and give me the details and if it matches they can have it. I'm not giving any hints as to what it was in. It may not have even been in a piece of equipment it may have been stuck in a book or a record sleeve not saying. That would only be known to the person who stuck it there and if they come out of the woodwork they get a stack of cash.

This reminds me of a time in 2006 when I was at a friend's house and in his room was a 1962 Encyclopaedia Brittanicca set. I decided to look up some things to see what was there and not there in that year. I happened to get a volume and while going through I came across some 100 dollar bills and others. There were at page 100, 200, and so on. There was a total of 770 dollars in there, put in there no telling how many years earlier by his parents or grandparents. We got all the others and quickly looked through at page 100, 200, etc. and found no more. This volume was the one that had the entry for "Money" and it was likely the reason whoever stashed the cash chose that one. My friend was totally shocked by it. I thought of another way someone could prove it was their VCR - older people tend to keep the receipts and papers and if they wrote the serial number in the manual and it matched, it would prove it was theirs.

"Was" their VCR. Doesn't mean it was their money. I'm thinking it was a gag. Envelope Looked pristine at least in the video. If there were markings on the envelope and the sum amount was also known then ones making a claim could be more seriously considered. Still not their money and it's not proof it ever was their money only that they knew the amount and markings on the envelope. If it was proven to be stolen then it could be seized by authorities with the claim that it be returned to original owner or victim of theft or burglary. But often I believe it goes into the public funds and never goes back to individual.

No, that wouldn't increase the picture quality. Increasing the carrier frequency and bandwidth would. That's exactly what svhs did.

@@12voltvids But would increasing the tape speed allow for an increase in carrier frequency and bandwidth? I've always assumed they didn't do that to avoid a decrease in run time.
@12voltvids
@12voltvids 2 жыл бұрын
@@Jallge increasing tape speed actually reduces relative tape to head speed as the tape and drum turn the same direction. So your relative had to tape speed is drum speed minus linear tape speed. All increasing the tape speed would do is make the tracks wider which would reduce dropouts and increase signal to noise ratio but would not change the resolution. This is why the SP speed has a better picture than the EP speed it has nothing to do with the tape speed it has everything to do with signal to noise ratio and crosstalk between the tracks. Super VHS and high eight increased the carrier frequency and use the narrower Gap head to allow those higher frequencies to be recorded. The drum speed and tape speed remain the same
@Jallge
@Jallge 2 жыл бұрын
@@12voltvids I see. What if you also increased the drum speed?
@12voltvids
@12voltvids 2 жыл бұрын
@@Jallge drum speed is locked to frame rate. 1 rotation per frame. 30 frames a second 1800 rpm for ntsc. For pal 25 frames a second 1500 RPM. Now if you were to double it you would have a nice line from the head switching right in the middle of the screen. It is possible to run a faster drum though. Digital does that. Digital 8 4500 rpm and dv 9000 rpm. Of course those formats are just recording bits and they are all reassembled in memory and read back out. So no, just put a narrower Gap head and turn up the FM carrier frequency. That achieves higher quality. Of course you could put in a larger Head drum and that would equate to a faster writing speed which would also increase the quality. That was also done and that one was called betamax. There's also three quarter inch which has an even bigger drum and a wider tape which records better quality still.

Actually it wasn't in that machine. I am not dumb enough to show what it came out of. It was actually many months earlier inside something that was given to me. As it was inside something dropped off if the person saw it they could have contacted me and told me what it was in and when they dropped it at my door and I would have handed it back. Over a year later no response so it's mine. I put it in my safe box at the bank with my rolex. Yes I have one it was my dad's.

At the bank it would be yes. At a retailer probably not. A month or so ago I had one of our current polymer notes that had a piece missing right at the middle where it would be folded there was a chunk missing from it everything was visible except for one letter of one of the serial numbers. I went through the drive-thru to buy my lunch and they refused it. So the next time I went out for dinner when I paid my bill I folded it in half and put it on the table and put the drink cup on it and walked out the door and the next thing I know I had the waiter chasing after me telling me he couldn't accept it as it was defaced. So my reply to him was well it's all I've got and I walked away. Now yes it's valid because even though one of the serial numbers had a letter missing you could still read it and you can see the other serial number because it's printed twice on the bill but retailers don't have to take it. The bank does however. In fact at least in Canada if you cut a bill in half a store won't take it but the bank will as long as one complete serial number is visible they will give you half the value of the note. At least that's what they told me at the bank as I had a couple of really old 100 bills that a client paid me with for shooting their wedding. Most small shops won't accept large bills, so i went to the bank to exchange them for small bills and the teller commented on the condition of a few of them. We got to talking about damaged notes and that is what she told me. A full serial number is worth half (because the other side is also worth half) a full plus partial serial number full value and an incomplete serial number portion nothing. Now that we have these plastic notes many retailers won't accept paper. They say take it to the bank.
