Nice shop, loved the video. Primary reason your CNC dust collection works better is because of the inlet and outlet configuration. You said the 6" helps "a little" in your video; it helps ALOT. From a conductance standpoint 6" will have well more than double the conductance (think of it as flow) of a 4" pipe, all else the same. Also the downstream configuration on your CNC dust collector is essentially optimized whereas your shop collector's downstream configuration is horrid for conductance (it looks really nice, so I understand why you did it). You want large diameters, minimal length, and minimal bends on both sides of the blower. You're choking the flow to the filter badly which causes causes a large pressure drop, thus decreasing flow rate at the tool-end. Hope this helps!
@DustinOliver-OCD2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I've considered upgrading to 6" inlet and outlet piping just haven't wanted to spend the money or the time to do so haha. I definitely will eventually just need to find some spare time.

@spencerschulz6262 жыл бұрын
Quick comment here. I have also modified my 2hp harbor freight DC with the Rikon impeller, bigger 6” inlet, and a pleated filter. The reason you’re not getting the suction you want is very likely due to your huge run of 4” pipe down to your filter. Even if it’s 5” ducting, you still have 90 degree angles, and a long travel down to your filter, which is choking the air movement. If you simply lift the filter up to be right next to the DC housing, and do a straight short run with a 5”-6” duct, your cfm will drastically increase.
@DustinOliver-OCD2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice! I have considered changing it to a straight run to the filter, but I like having it close to the ground for convenience when it needs to be cleaned. I still may do it eventually.

Nice tidy shop. What you call your "first aid kit" I would call a "minor boo boo kit", shops like yours have some nasty tools in them that can do some real injuries so if you have some money I would look at upgrading that to at least a small trauma kit by adding at least a couple of decent bandages (Isreali or OLAES or just 4" heavy if your on a budget), maybe a tourniquet if you know how and when to use, chest seals, CPR mask, couple of compressed gauze/ #15 wound dressings etc.

Dustin, so many questions! OCD is a good thing for woodworkers. What are the dimensions of your main shop without the part you closed in? I'm trying to stuff everything into a 2 car garage and cant seem to accept the limitations I have on space but I want the Laguna bandsaw you have! Can you talk about the Husky adjustable table? Been looking at one. I like the addons you made. Does it take the weight of the laminated top and the drawers? How stable is it? I thought about using two of them for a miter saw station wings but then I saw the dog holes you made and wondered if it resist racking etc etc I like your shop. Would love to send some questions to you on if you're on Instagram. Thanks for the tour! Liked and subscribed
@DustinOliver-OCD Жыл бұрын
The main shop is 24x30 as for the husky table it handles the weight of the top and drawers well. The additional weight makes it really stable, its never moved on me with the wheels locked. The top will tilt some but not to bad, no different than it did with the smaller top it came with. I love having the ability to adjust the height, it makes a great infeed or outfeed for every tool too.

I did get the idea from Katz-Moses but just cut them out with a jig saw, they were made long before getting the CNC.
