To have built that workshop at your age... OMG what a wonderful accomplishment! Seems to me so many young people spend all their free time on cell phones or video games, (nothing to show for it later)....Tons of credit to your Dad too!

My man, I was hesitant to invest 45 minutes for a shop tour, but there are so many impressive elements here, I’ll likely watched over and over. I love how thoughtful you were about the shop’s function, but more so, I appreciate your sense of tradition based on you father and grandfather’s work. Thanks for sharing this!

The level of detail in that shop is second to none. That is awesome. I am not sure whether I should tell you this but you can change out mitre saw blades 😉 having a mitre saw for each blade is sweet but I like being married. Amazing craftsmanship. I like the red oak. I have always been a fan of the red oak with clear coat. The 80s were not kind to red oak because there was too much orange stain applied but with just the clear it looks great 👍

I've been a woodworker,,,,cabinet maker for over 40 years. Everything that you have done and made to have a well equipped shop is amazing! PERIOD! Everything is neat and tucked into every available space. You should be proud of who you are and what you've accomplished. I have a beautiful 38'x44' building and I'm slowly getting back to woodworking again after a ten year break due to having crohns disease. I have a lot of space to fill up, but as you know things are very expensive and it just takes time to aquire everything you need to have a great shop!!!! Have a great day! Ray

Wow this is nice. I found your video trying to get ideas for redesigning and reorganizing my totally trashy workshop space since I got some nice practically new tools from my father-in-law, and you have given me so many ideas for ways I can organize everything, but now I gotta figure out where to start! LOL My workshop is a section of my pole barn garage, and the foam insulation is falling off the walls, but your idea to use foam behind pegboard may have just solved my problem, so looks like I'll be replacing the foam board and installing peg board over it- so thank you for showing that, it's very ingenious!

I hear ya, I do. My dad wouldn't loan me a chisel for one little shaving when I was young and poor. He told me "Get your own tools!" 30 years later I finally could start getting some inexpensive tools. My training and skill were delayed 3 decades. :( He's gone now, I have tools and equipment now... and his tools which were left behind. That chisel is the one I use the most, and I try to do work that he would approve of. My own family will get encouragement and training from me. I hope they carry it forward with fond memories when I am gone.

DUDE!!!! You're Shop is BEAUTIFUL!!!! Amazingly anal! There are certainly places and ways you can "lean" it out so your not making as many steps throughout the day. But the way you have it all built out and the amount of Grizzly tools!! I was at Grizzly just yesterday and it took me 2 hours to decide to pull the trigger to get a drill press. I love their tools, just not the prices :-(. The craftsmanship of your builds is truly incredible. And the amount of analnise of your Dad's electrical work and how much of it there is!! You're Grandpa did BEAUTIFUL work. But dude, don't sell your self short. Both you and your Dad do amazing stuff too. The fact you could pay for all this is also amazing! This is the nicest shop I've seen yet on KZbin. Great, GREAT job!!!

WOW! Just wow. What a space you have there. Your custom cabinetry is beautiful! Other than the height problem, it looks like you have a lot of space around each tool. Very clever to use the milling machine for wood. Talk about accurate, and dead-flat pieces. I LOVE that the cabinets all have plexiglass doors and lighting. And the shop looked spotless, so I would say your fine dust collection is very good. Even when you clean there is always fine dust that falls everywhere. Long-term that will be very good for your lungs. I have always used a handkerchief, then went onto a respirator before it was a thing. Unfortunately, my eldest brother who did the same as grampa, has a very difficult time breathing without oxygen because he never wore a mask except when spraying finishes. My other brother worked with antique homes, taking them down and erecting them elsewhere and/or he repaired them. He was exposed to not only dust but dried fecal matter from rodents, squirrels, and raccoons and is now having breathing issues. I'm of a similar mind that if I'm going to be working in space for long lengths of time, then I want it to be appealing to me. Some of these guys out there that are doing the work you are, don't understand the customer aspect of a shop. I hate hearing " well it is just shop furniture" and just slap boards together. It is a wasted opportunity to practice dovetails, custom molding, rabbits, and dados. You want the customer to see your work and what you are capable of. It's your "showroom" if you will of your talent. I'm not referring to the people just starting. Those can be lean years in the beginning. Back when you could get kitchen cabinets that would end up in a dumpster for free, that is what was in my shop. In the garage metal shop, I installed garage-grade cabinets I got from a big box store. After 20+ yrs, only one door warped on me, and the rest still look like the day I stained them. I'm studying Korean and Japanese joinery and I figure what better place than my shop to practice it? I am refitting my shop this spring right after the addition goes on and the custom cabinets and 100-plus drawers will give me a chance to use those new skills. Though I'm only showing off to friends and family. I retired from my day job at 50 so this is for the most part a hobby shop. I would much rather screw up a shop cabinet than a customer's cabinet. I love the history associated with the things in your shop. I loved my grampa and spending time in his workshop. When I think of those early days, I can almost smell the cherry tobacco he smoked in his shop. He was a furniture, and custom cabinetry maker. So as soon as I started to walk, I would always go to the shop. When I was 10, he decided I was old enough to start using the hand tools. My favorite job was peeling branches for the carved walking canes he also made, with a spokeshave. He had about a dozen different spokeshaves he used all of the time and in every configuration there was. Some were either custom commissioned for him, or he made them himself out of a mix of hardwoods like ebony and rosewood with gleaming brass, and red bronze parts. By 12 I had blade sharpening down, and I loved that too. (let's just say I loved every aspect of woodworking), including harvesting trees on the back 40 acres put aside just for that very purpose. He had an old 1942 military truck, which I called the rust bucket. It had removable heavy-duty canvas doors, that came off every spring until late fall. It was 4-wheel drive, and because it was a matter of doing something with the tires, I think, to put it into 4-wheel drive, he just kept it in that mode and could drive over just about anything. He had a two-wheel rig that held 3 large logs at a time on one end, and the other ends were chained to a long bar that was then chained to the truck. He would let me sit on his lap and drive down the old logging roads that went around the entire 200 acres. My older brothers drove it on their own as well as the old Willys jeep cramps had until I turned 14, then I drove tractors to that jeep. Gosh, I'm rambling, sorry. You can count me in as a new subscriber and I look forward to your other videos.

I absolutely can’t thank you enough for your kind words and brief story into some of your woodworking passion, Please never hesitate to explain what makes you happy and what certain thing strikes a memory🙏🏻 thank you so much again for your support already into not only me the craftsman but the shop as well :) Most don’t understand how some of us woodworkers express our shop as a studio... a studio for our clients or anybody really to see what kind of artist they are dealing with 🪚 it’s always been a passion of mine just as much as the woodworking it’s self is literally shop building and making things nice.... Very impressive. It’s obvious seeing your shop that a lot of time was put into it. Not just in the design, but all the labor too. Love the layout with the isles and cabinet walls instead of just an open room. It’s like a shop/ mancave. Cool place to just hangout, but also an awesome place to build things with some really nice tools. Thank you for the tour.

Incredible shop! Thanks for sharing. My favorite part is all of the custom cabinetry combined with enviable electrical capacity. The whole room is a work of art. It’s so cool that you can share it with your dad, and apparently, pieces from your grandfather.❤. I’m curious about your hand injury. Hope it heals fast!
