"The Alabama Supreme Court ruled Friday that frozen embryos are children, which pro-choice rights groups have warned could have dangerous implications for fertility treatments such as in vitro fertilization.
The Alabama Supreme Court on Friday reversed Mobile County Circuit Court Judge Jill Parrish Phillips’ decision to dismiss a lawsuit in which a couple sued an Alabama fertility clinic and hospital for the “wrongful death” of their frozen embryos in a ruling that was riddled with theology. The couple’s frozen embryos were destroyed after a hospital patient who accessed the freezer that held the embryos dropped them on the floor. The ruling means that the couple can sue for wrongful death."

Seeing how its tax season, women who are pregnant in Alabama need to go to the social security office and file for a Social security number for the embryo of fetus. That way they can get the child tax credit. When they're refused that sue the state of Alabama because it just said an embryo is a child. People who have embryos frozen in these clinics, same thing. Women go file for any state assistance you can for the frozen embryos or your fetus. When youre refused, sue the state.

Child protection needs to open a case on every embryo for neglect. Their needs aren’t being met to allow normal healthy development. If parents refuse, get those embryos into foster care!!! Just as you cannot deprive a child of their basic needs, surely those embryos cannot be deprived a womb after all. Alabama is going to have to raise taxes significantly to pay the social workers, attorneys and judges to deal with the new embryo caseload, not to mention foster care costs. Will there be a new term for surrogate/foster mom who will have the embryo implanted? I assume all unborn children, including embryos should qualify as dependents for tax purposes. Will Alabama allow parents to amend previous tax returns that left the unborn off their taxes?

Freezing embryos is expensive, it can run as high as $17,000, with an additional cost of $500 a year to store them. What happens when the parents no longer have the money to keep the embryos frozen and they thaw out and die. Will the parents then be charged with murder; or will the state of Alabama have to pay to keep the embryos frozen and pay the medical cost to turn the embryos into crying babies and pay for their cost of living until they turn 18 yrs old.

Listen this opinion was absolutely unhinged but as a lawyer I just need to how the heck a patient from the hospital was able to just randomly come into the clinic without anyone noticing and why the embryos weren’t behind doors that automatically lock/require keycard access to enter every time???? No way a hospital patient should have been able to access those embryos. That sounds absolutely negligent on the hospital’s part. Keep in mind the process the female goes through to retrieve eggs is tedious and taxing. These ppl are having fertility problems and IVF is costly. So I can also understand the breach of contract claim. The thing I’m getting caught up on is the “wrongful death” IMO ..

One problem with this ruling that wasn't brought up is one of the major reasons for doing IVF is to screen for abnormal chromosomes. They typically only transfer the normal ones. Most places won't even transfer the borderline ones. This will increase the numbers of transfers, miscarriages, and possibly even trips across the border if they can no longer do that testing. Then what can they do with the abnormal ones if they know they're abnormal?

I have no dog in this race but the reason freezing humans tends to be abuse is because: - it's painful - it kills them unless you can do it quick enough A small enough human with a low enough specific heat and no thalamus / nervous system could theoretically be frozen in a non-abusive way. But again, I'm pro-life and I have no problem with banning freezing human embryos if you are, in fact, correct. All you'd be proving is that the government sucks at making logically consistent laws which I 100% agree with lol.
