One of my favorite lessons of yours! KZbin guitar teachers preach the importance of timing but for the most part dont give you much besides telling you to use a metronome. Im a self taught player who has primarily learned from KZbinrs. I started with basic open chords, to all 5 pentatonic positions, then major scale. But quickly felt limited even though my technical skills were quickly improving. So I went on a theory bender for a month or 2. Just focused on the basics like intervals, and contruction of chords and scales. Few months ago I a friend who plays drums wanted to jam after seering me play some BS at home for 2 minutes. When we got together and played I was imediatly humbled as I often am with guitar and realized my timing was horrific. That day I learned no matter how good your technique and how much thoery you know you will sound like shit in a real musical context unless you can keep time. Moral of my rant, work on timing from the start! I know its boring and can seem not important very early when you barely know any scales or chords but just do it! Youll thank me latter

At first, I thought you were gonna mention a metronone right away as far as timing goes. But I actually really dig the exercise on geting the up strokes clean and on time. I still need to work on that so this was solid advice.

A metronome to a guitar player is the same as a Wave is to a Surfer...... The metronome and the wave are in charge.

A metronome is mechanical. Human's don't **play** like that. Play over records.

I sleep to a metronome some nights letting it click all night and have gotten to a point where I can now figure out alot of song counts just from listening to a metronome at night. Edit: it’s not just a 4/4 patter. I do a 7/4, polyrhythm 4/4 5/4….

Amazing right on spot again. Truly a gift 🙏🏻 Edit : I tried it right after I have seen it but it's so weird. I got to stick to very slow tempo (40bpm or so) to do it very clan. Which is a great general improvement following Guthrie Govans suggestion to leave the "comfort zone" from time to time.

Hi bernth. Ça you make a vidéo about dissonant chords used in band like Vildhjarta Hypno5e. It would be great to have a better understanding.

How early in learning guitar should I begin practicing this? I am very new to guitar - I am still doing spiders and not consistently hitting the proper fretting, that level of new. Should I also be trying upstroke/timing exercises? Or is that jumping the gun?
