I’m so glad you made this video. I was at a N/A meeting in Flint Michigan. This younger guy came and just started taking Suboxone and had a positive attitude. During the meeting these people starting saying your not sober your taking Suboxone. The kid left and I found out he died a couple weeks later. A friend of his said he gave up the suboxone because of what the group said. I never went back to another N/A meeting after that. He died because of N/A and this belief that total abstaining from anything is the only way you can say you’re sober.

This has happened in the NA groups I used to attend. It is great that some can just up and stop and never use again. Sometimes I wonder if those people were ever addicted in the first place but my opinion and $8.00 will get you a coffee at strabucks.

That is tragic to hear! These thoughts can real world consequences and that's a big reason why I made this video.

I went to NA before I started methadone maintenance and they said the same things. If I’m honest, deep down I don’t feel clean & I know it’s because of things said at NA and by my parents.

Those aren't NA members, they are demon people. That's so sad what makes me mad is that there are no consequences for what these people do even if it gets somebody killed. 😔

This is why I avoid NA meetings. This meme runs rampant in those circles.

Yes, that attitude is my biggest gripe with NA. They claim to now accept people taking Suboxone and methadone as "sober" but since the organization is decentralized, that hasn't been adopted by every local group.

That and religion/“higher power.” And forced hugging/holding hands and praying at the end. I went to NA my first day out of detox. Then watched a dude pick his nose for 90 minutes then was expected to hold his hand and pray at the meeting’s end. No thank you

@@JackMcG_MD I find it best to not even bring subs up in meetings. It's those who got sober 5 or more years ago that have this attitude because most rehabs now offer mat, moud. I knew that as soon as Hazelden recognized it as an effective tool, others would follow suit. In fact, in a few of my Hazelden newsletters, they even acknowledge the markedly higher success rate over 1 yr and 5yr of their former patients.

Thanks for your support! Thus far, making videos is a passion, not a job. I want to provide a source of reputable information to counteract all the noise. I achieved KZbin Partner status a few days before the end of 2023 and I am very grateful for all the support of my audience. I have some ideas for how to develop the channel, so look forward to 2024!

Are you addicted to fentanyl or heroin/other opiates
@jeorgeramirezgonzolezsanti31788 ай бұрын
Recovery is personal. I may believe being on subs is not being "clean" but why should what i think matter to you. It's your recovery. Though why woukd you need to be on subs for 7 years?
@tim572434 ай бұрын
You should make this case by talking about how Suboxone enables a lifestyle improvement, if you are wanting to encourage people to make a change like that. Something like what life events happen to the typical fentanyl addict has and what happens to the typical Suboxone user. Trying to control the definition of sobriety (to include Suboxone use) and using a substance (to exclude using Suboxone) is just participating in word games that you are assuming your target audience is losing. Better to tell people to stop playing the word games by ceasing to use the vague words and stick to well defined ones, such as typical specific life events of fentanyl and Suboxone users. (You are the addiction doc and I am not, so I will leave you to describe those typical life events.)

I believe the NA system is a mix of cognitive dissonance and people pleasing/desire to fit in by agreeing with ppl who think this. CD b/c if it worked for them or a person they know then it must be the solution for everybody. And then you got the sheeple that agree with them to fit in.

If you do decide to taper off of it, though, this is a taper that you can use if you need one: 16 to 12 to 10 to 8 to 6 to 4 to 3 to 2 to 1.5 to 1 to .75 to .5 to .25 to .125 maybe .125 every other day then jump. Do this once every 3 weeks to a month or however long it takes you to adjust when you feel comfortable going down again.
