Allow me to tell you about when our platoon in the Swedish Military was chewed out by our lieutenant for not putting up our tent for our posting as he came around to inspect our work. He was fuming, calling us all worthless pieces of shit and was talking about how we would be made to march for 50 miles instead of sleeping that night bla bla bla. Then, when our corporal was allowed to speak in our defense. He simply pointed with a straight face that the whole camp has been built 15 meters in THAT direction as instructed. At which the lieutenant stared for 30 seconds until he finally just stopped being red in his face and you could literally feel the chill he got from realizing he's been making a complete ass out of himself for many minutes while we all just stood there not making a single smirk or sound. It was so well camouflaged that he had actually walked around the whole camp on a natural trail and not seen a single thing and it took him that long to finally be able to discern that MAYBE there actually was two frigging 20 men tents hidden there with a whole bunch of other equipment. The lieutenant said only one thing: "Well, good job, carry on" and walked away. We didn't see him again for a whole week.

Were you aware of a British camouflage system in ww2 that made aircraft appear to disappear? It used electric lights to actually camouflage flying aircraft? The system involved a bunch of low power lights mounted to a aircraft that simulated the sky's natural background lighting and made aircraft appear to disappear. I don't know why it was dropped. It was a brilliant idea. My guess was the advent of radar. Now with stealth a system like this would be excellent indeed. I just don't understand why it hasn't been rediscover? Try looking it up. Earliest account i have seen for camouflage in war (not specifically just hiding for an ambush or scouting) was also in Sweden during the Scanian War(1675-79). Small Swedish force cut down bushes and branches of trees then covered themselves and crept over the field toward a danish positions during the night. It being a moonlit night making the Danish watch feel safe they could see anyone coming, the rouse was a success and the swedes charged right ontop of the danish troops who didnt even have time to raise a propper alarm. Reportedly a danish commander only had the time to comment something along the lines of "Why are the goats bleating?" when hearing the battlecry signaling the charge before the swedes just ran into the camp, they were too close for him to imagine it was a battlecry, he thought it was the camp livestock. It is from a period diary/book from a commander of the Västgöta Cavalry Regiment of the war but it is written sometimes like a report and sometimes like a story, so the accuracy is doubtful but it shows they had the understanding of the advantages of camouflage to disguise troop movements too even if it was just a story and maybe never performed.

Both 21st and 45th (not the 47th) are often called The Swedish Brigades as they are kitted and trained by Swedish Military and Swedish Military Doctrine. CV90 is the IFV. STRV 122 is A heavily modified LEO2A5 built in Sweden it is also considered the best protected MBT in service. FH77B Archer is the current top SPG in the world with a maximum range of over 65km, It is also the fastest when it comes to Shoot and Scoot in service, Germany is comming with their RCH155 to likely beat the Archer if it works as intended. Sweden has also Donated all the remaining PBV302 which is something in between a M113 and a Bradley. it is not a M113, Yes it looks abit like it but it is completly a diffrent vehicle. I did a quick google and only 10% of CV90's have been lost while 30% of Bradleys have been lost. It's possible the Bradleys are involved in more intense fighting or have been fighting for longer. I wasn't sure how to check to see what percentage of the crew survived in either case.
@benktlofgren47103 ай бұрын
Well, they got a greater number of Bradleys so it is fair to assume they had more front heat because of it also.

Sweden has only sent 50 CV90's. Percentages gets really iffy with such small numbers but clearly they are an appreciated asset by the Ukranians.

Greetings from Spain. There have been ground surveillance radars since the mid-1960s. It is time to start working on stealth with IR radar, both for vehicles and for the uniforms, equipment and weapons of infantrymen.

FYI: If you record in some sort of LOG-Picture profile then you HAVE TO add a color conversion or a LUT to rec709 at the end or on top of your camera footage. Otherwise just chose any other mode in your camera witch will give you straight rec709 material...

Ukraine has been forced to fight the war that Sweden spent half a century preparing to fight; fighting both direct and asymmetric warfare against a numerically superior enemy in heavily forrested terrain and shallow waters along the coast. It's no surprise that the techninques developed here in Sweden are proving very effective when applied to the exact circumstances it was made for.

This concept is not new, although the materials technology used have advanced over the years. The US Army experimented with this system in the early 90’s prior to Desert Storm, but that operation threw every principle related to camouflage and deception out the window. Even today, you see thousands of armored vehicles in desert tan. SAAB Baracuda has some of the most advanced technology available today, but often given lip service. Glad to see this report.

Have you seen the SAAB Soft Armour system? With ceramic balls to get bullet proofing. It seems so efficient and easy to use.

Soldiers should have actual cloaks made from this stuff, plus some other layers. Inside layer of fire resistant brown wool like a fire blanket. Next layer of mylar coated bubble sheet or aerogel in soft carbon fiber packets. Then a Barracuda material based waterproof shell, with textured exterior. The whole thing would be relatively light weight and provide significant protection against observation, especially from above and from the rear. Hood should be large enough to cover a helmet with plenty of room to spare to disrupt the outline of the head, similar in effect to large cloth helmet attachments such as mitznefet. Should be a half circle style cloak to leave a gap in the front for easy access to chest pouches on body armor and keep weight down. Quick release buckles to attach directly to body armor at the clavicles or to itself in traditional style. This would make it much harder to spot infantry from drones or vehicles, increasing their chances of survival. A soldier in a trench, crouching behind cover, or lying prone on the ground would be nearly invisible to sensors from a distance. Soldiers advancing at a walk or dash would be visible from the front but they could also see the threat that sees them, while being partially obscured from the side, rear, and above.
