Reupload - Kept the good, ditched the bad. In this series, I'm making the best Sim a person could make - he's got every childhood aspiration bonus, everything a teen can get, including character values and scouting. Because we did almost everything, he's even well-behaved. In this episode I finalize (for real) the character values and complete Scouting from The Sims 4 Seasons.

Hi guys. If the reupload confuses you, it's definitely that I wasn't comfortable with some of my edits when I watched them with rested eyes today. You can kind of grow blind working in premiere for many hours. Since I want this series to be watchable even a year from now, I decided to take the existing project and do some cuts on content that didn't work. I'm learning new skills in editing, and overused them like a lot of newbies seem to do. It's not really about any comments I received, which were mostly positive, but more about me feeling uncomfortable sharing things I don't like it myself. I left a lot of the better gags and deliberately corny things, I'm self-aware in that regard.. but got rid of humans that move and altered things to not intrude too much. Now I'm happy with it.

I get motion sickness too. Do you think it mostly happens when the camera is moving and I'm zooming in while the game camera's also moving around. Is it potentially less disorienting when it's more stable/static. I do feel a need to use them sometimes, but I think that might help. Also possibly being more gentle with it, a slower start to help the eyes catch up with what's happening.
@mariesalias

I get bad motion sickness too. I’d say steady camera with a slower zoom (but not too slow) would probably be most gentle. You don’t spin the camera around quickly which is what some summer YTers do that makes me ill. That and going into first person... I can be nauseous for hours if I forget and watch someone in first person view for just a minute.

@@mariesalias Yeah it's pretty wild what it does for me. Watching someone play FPS, and sometimes playing them myself, is a nono... 1 minute of it or the camera rising in build mode due to collision with terrain/light poles in sims 4 = about a half hour of nausea. No fun to have this. One of the big reasons I play games like Sims.

Carl's Sim Guides Yeah, I can’t play FPS at all. Even games like Minecraft can be an issue if I’m not careful with my movements and I don’t adjust my FoV to be further out. When looking for crystals or metals, the dig sites actually do convey what they are. Crystals will have crystals poking out and metals will be dotted with colorful spots. That said, there is still the chance for finding those time capsules.

Ah interesting. But I think there's value to taking them, unless the whole lot reloads on return. What I"m saying is in the past it'd make sense to pick them up so another could spawn.

the problem is time capsules have a pretty high drop rate for a "rarer" find, watering down the effort of getting metals or crystals. i find going to the realm of magic to be the easiest way of obtaining since there is a store that sells them, unless finding them is what you are after in which case getting Coby into the science career will yield the fastest "found" metals especially with the transforming science ray since picked up objects usually count as "new" objects

Using a journal raises emotional control. Very easy. Empathy was harder for me as a teen. I got it maxes as a kid with the doctor set.

An easy way to farm empathy is to give gifts of simoleons(at least $500 if you want them to appreciate it, they’ve disliked $100 before but I suppose it depends on the financial standing of the household) to any family member and or give funny gifts to different people. Giving gifts goes towards the give back scouting badge, and the funny gift makes them playful which can help with making someone laugh, a nice set up to knock out good deeds.

I am currently doing the super sim, but she is 'father winters baby', and I randomise aspirations and traits. I find that I get a little bored if my sims are too 'perfect', and this way, I don't make the same sim over and over again. This also makes me more likely to play the game as a character, not just a 'grind'.

I 💖 that you redid the video. Not enough YTuber simmers care about their work enough. Of course some are just still learning editing skills and I can forgive that if their content is good. It's great that you are relearning (or learning) playing details. We learn as much from your discoveries/rediscoveries as from the things you knew already... maybe more. My favorite thing is that your style isn't geared towards teens. Also new bugs and quirks pop up with updates and new packs... and it helps when you point those out. I check out new (to me) Sim YTubers... but only sub to those that put in the effort. You are one of the handful I watch & hit the like button regularly. Some of my favs are James Turner, Lilsimsie, and The PixelBiologist (Seri). Tutorials (well done ones) are great... but I also enjoy them in LP/story mode. With you we are getting both.

When they are toddlers the parent can teach 2 values (conflict resolution and manners) to them. It’s best to max those out before they age up, so you only have to maintain them a little to keep them from dropping. Maxing conflict resolution as a toddler is the priority though. As a child I max out empathy by using the doctor play set, and I only need to maintain it a little by asking about mood once a teenager. Emotional control is something I don’t worry about until they are a teen, then they can jog to clear mind and work on their fitness. Responsibility tends to max passively as you do homework and tidy. For the badges: As a kid I work on their aspirations as I complete the scout badges. Like the creativity aspiration needs you to draw all 5 drawings on the crafting table. This also counts towards a crafting badge, and then I donate those to charity for another badge. I use an incense burner to help them get the right mood for each activity (inspired for crafts, focused for homework). The trickiest is getting playful on a public jungle gym unless your sim can afford to buy one with an incense burner next to it. I take off the lot trait child’s play if the kids are too playful to focus or be inspired. I postpone the outdoor badge until they are a teen so I can grill on a BBQ/fish nearby and keep everyone fed at the same time, and it’s faster then digging up time capsules off my lot. When I play the 100 baby challenge, I make it harder by trying to make perfect sims with all values maxed, all childhood aspirations complete, and all badges. If you play with spellcasters you can use scruberoo on your kids and teens to save time. I suppose you could give teen sims those need-filling potions.

I did something similar, but I started by moving in an island spirit to my home then she had a baby with father winter so my sim got 2 bonus traits. As an adult my sim got every skill and worked through every aspiration to get all the traits. All the lifetime rewards points were more than enough to buy all the bonus traits and the elixir of life a few times so my sim stayed a young adult. A bit strange having children for the family aspirations and having them end up older than my main sim though!

22:01 Did you know that, if you're a witch (or maybe scientist, haven't tested) that when you to a secret lot, you can do copypasto on rock/geode/alien/crystal/etc nodes? It goes straight into your household inventory, and you can place them on your own lot for *broken* farming. Only works for the secret lots and not public lots (as far as I can tell). I know you don't like witches or broken mechanics, but someone might find it fun/useful.

I missed the first video, so this is the first time I’m seeing this video. That said, I have enjoyed all your videos so far. The people on screen was a surprise in its suddenness but not really distracting. I liked how the Picard one didn’t linger, especially. Im trying to think how other people I watch handle the images. I think having a fade in and fade out would be smoother, as well as them being a bit smaller so they don’t cover the whole screen. But then, I don’t make videos so I may be way off! I think your personality and humor is a big part of your charm so the special effects stuff is kind of secondary. Anyway, good video, I learn at least a couple new things each video it seems!
@CarlsSimGuides
@CarlsSimGuides 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think many do them full screen with memes/related images. I think the slide in/out looks kind of bad on most of them but fading in is better. Slide in was better for like the window gag, since I'm humanizing it :P So I'll probably stick with that only for that type of image. With fade in, you'll see it coming and not so sudden. It's just a little touch to express emotion or make something less boring (regarding full screen). Some creators manage to keep my attention by using a bunch of static pictures for long stretches at a time. But they make sure it keeps moving on to new things. I think that this is why the YT commentary community would talk while playing some actiony video game.

You seem to enjoy what you are doing, you have a soothing/interesting voice, you are funny, you not only impart information but also seek it, and you are not afraid to admit you don’t know everything or that you could be wrong. watching the re-upload has inspired me to try sims in a new light, make myself as a sim but start out by playing the parents so it gives myself a more directed personality since to be honest any little thing that adds flavor is very much needed to feel different, might even give this super sim challenge a try :) edit: regarding the confident after writing and woodcrafting. your not alone i hate how disruptive and un-related that moodlet is to the task your working on, i mean if you were making a good book you'd think you'd be inspired to come up with more ideas, same with woodworking. i mean if the idea i pitched being that the confident trait being reliant on confident being the sims "happiest" mood instead of happy would make it make sense. but that isn't a thing :(

One thing I try to do with my kids before aging them up to teens and my teens before aging them up to adults is look at their vacation days. If the kid has vacation days, use them and Jew the kid home before aging up. You get more skill boosts and you don’t have to worry about homework. I was very frustrated with conflict resolution, it has this strange distance that makes it difficult, all other values were linked with some object or easy action to do, but conflict resolution doesn’t have that, it is purely in actions 2, one in childhood, and the another to mend a relationship. other than that, you have the option to apologize, but this is inconvenient because you have to abuse your parents or a random Sim, and that harms empathy, which is not difficult to achieve, but even so... it's a pain in the ass surprise me that I remember this guide so much, it helped me a lot I have a dummy head but I managed to remember several tips from this guide and it helped me a lot

Sorry to respond this many times.... but hey... it was that good! Re: parenting. As a parent of 3 older kids... I often wonder if the parenting stuff was only developed by their young developers that might not even have kids and are only drawing on their childhood memories. They need to hire or contract some more experienced parent player/developers and do some tweaking to Parenthood or make a generations expansion. Heck... they should even include even older player/developers. The elders are so under developed. I'm not an elder yet... but since I've been with The Sims since day one so I'm getting there. Modern elders play video games; exercise & woohoo without dying; and often keep working. Some don't have retirement income and have life/love issues. If they update elders I sure hope they don't stick them just with stereotypical things like bingo & knitting. Add elder aspirations or challenges like going back to university; travel the world; widow(er)s; keeping up with the kids/grandkids; elder clubs; new 2nd careers; downsizing (Tiny Living will help here) and having yard sales to get rid of stuff. Maybe the can entice some of those retired Sims 1 & 2 developers to consult. Not those that are now execs... but those that have been away living for awhile.

I don't think it's a bug that you can donate broken things. People do that all the time and charities either fix them or sell for scrap. I know it's done with cars and cell phones. It is a bug that you can get credit for donating stuff like letters & bills from your inventory. Though I bet there are scammers out there that would love for your kids to donate your bills just to get your info. I'm iffy on being able donate dog poop (yep that's a thing)... but maybe they are giving it to a gardening co-op to go in their compost bin for fertilizer.

Your female friend gave you an offer and "When you showed her..... she said: Why is it so big... and yeah you came to realize: its one of the biggest flaws.... " Remember no woman ever said "it's too big or its a flaw" so no matter how big it is, be happy with what you have and enjoy your time.

Well, since you mention about exploiting (since you spammed the brush teeth interaction), you can exploit the collector aspiration by dragging crystals/metals/frogs/etc. on your sim's inventory (unless you want to do elements aswell). I know it's cheating, but it's funny how they didn't fix this XD

They used to be my main go-to in all Sims, since they offer so much but in TS4, there's less to do with large sums of money so I just hit a wall faster where there isn't anything really productive to do. I hope they eventually let us own super expensive resorts and run them :)

3 years late to the party but I have adhd so I actually would do my homework on the school bus ride to school. If you think that's irresponsible yes it is but that's what happens when you have untreated adhd you can only every do stuff you don't want to do on the strictest of timelines. I'm going to be getting treated for adhd starting this year but this was 13 years overdo.

I’d like to get the personality thing in sims 2 like you can make the nice or mean neat or sloops. I’d just like for my sims to stop singing to each other when they are married and living together it’s kinda annoying ☹️ my sims never shut up I’m glad they fixed the random knitting thing it’d be nice if they fixed the singing and give us cool woohoo scenes like sims 2, I wouldn’t have a problem if they did something like sims 2, add a little story I’m not a story maker so yeah plz give me a story to play through

Does your community have a Discord? There's a lot of really good stuff in this LP/Guide, but there's some other short-cuts you didn't discover that can make this much easier. Like, to the point where you can clear all the scout badges in 3-5 days.

Nope, not yet. I have considered it, but I'd like to improve my workflow and have a bit more time before I did something like it. There may be some shortcuts I'm unaware of. I know I exploited a few and couldn't resist it but tried not to cheese too much. I'm probably not doing a very good job of playing optimally as I don't plan out the day very well and find myself always sidetracked. Appreciate the compliment toward the content though, it is nice to hear.

@@CarlsSimGuides yeah, your guides are invaluable. You also seem really focused an improving your craft as a KZbinr, and that dedication is really admirable. The reason I bring up a discord, is that it attracts a different sort of person than BB forums. You might find it a more useful tool for connecting people who are more interested in data mining the game, participating in experiments, and sharing useful information. Don't get me wrong, the forums are fun, but it's more of a chat board than a community for exchanging information

You can just straighten a character's spine manually, but gaining or losing weight are things the player has to work for or buy with aspiration points? The Sims sure has weird priorities around health issues.
