I could be wrong but the country being targeted was Qatar, it was a couple years ago that they were suspected for funding terrorism, they also won the bid to host the 2022 Fifa world cup which is why UAE requested to investigate if they bribed for the bid.

I had some issues with my electronics- some of the things that we're happening as well as some of the things that I ended up finding were mind-boggling and sometimes even though I had the information in front of my face- we're just unbelievable to me- I am just a regular citizen- I am a nobody and yet these things were happening to me- from our government to the straight up everyday criminal crime is evolving and this needs to be exposed and the people need to be educated- This explains so much.... Great and informative presentation- Don't stop what you doing brother- you're amazing-

You aren't alone in this experience. Believe me, their capabilities defy our current understanding of technological limits. The government watch lists enacted after the patriot act was passed have grown to now contain over 2 million American citizens on American soil. If you make this list, expect total and overwhelming compromise of every device in your vicinity. People who claim this is paranoid or delusional beliefs, can go research zersetsung and where the creators of it ended up and why. The efforts are being made to bring these abuses if power to the public forum for debate and hopefully some oversight into this violation of human rights, let alone civil rights.

My guess would be that the exploit has something to do with the metadata of the message, such as the read receipts being altered with malicious code, so that the malicious code would be written to memory with no checks. That's just a guess though

Funny stories (possibly) related to some of the red flags mentioned: I was a former DoD employee and software engineer (mostly defense industries), and left a position of 4 years to take a new job position as software architect. It was my FIRST day, and I get a phone call that morning from a recruiter who knew my name and work number (I hadn't even informed my significant other yet what the number was) and starts to interview me. I might've sent an application to the CIA while I was searching for the new job (the timing looks right) but since I hadn't gotten any feedback I had just crossed them off the list. The recruiter also didn't identify the employer, so all this could just be paranoia. The second was a feeler from another recruiter who asked if I wanted to spend 2 years in Saudi Arabia. Single at the time, but NO.

It doesn't pay to be naive as a hacker or as a journalist. For that matter, it doesn't pay when you're a nobody. If you're going to do anything that will get the attention of, or just generally annoy, powerful people, you should expect to have them come after you. If you want a quiet life, don't be noisy. I find it utterly ridiculous that hackers can be so thoroughly naive as to work for a foreign government, when you can't possibly know what their agenda is. When you do so, you're allowing them to use you for whatever they want, with little to no protection. So what if someone in the US government okayed it? How in hell could they know what the real game is? Truth is, they could be all in on it, and just suckered all these people into committing crimes against human rights.

Booz Allen has an entire business unit dedicated to this type of work in countries across the middle east. They stood this initiative up in the 2012-2014ish timeframe. And yes, it was basically pitched as a "build your own NSA" team. OSINT - especially non-offensive online collection like social media and other pattern-of-life analysis - is another HUGE capability that many nations are pouring a ton of money into...

I went to American school as a child and it always amazed me how much Americans have their blinders on about their own country. I was immediately taken back by some of the things we were "asked" to do or believe. Both my best friends were patriotic Americans, but I would call their belief more borderline nationalistic than patriotic. It was impossible to have discussions like 'did the Americans win the Space Race?' We wouldn't even be discussing that they definitively didn't, as I would clearly acknowledge that getting a man on the moon first was a great achievement, but the Soviets had 50+ firsts compared to the U.S's 20+ firsts. In addition the Soviets weren't using Nazi war criminals to spearhead their program, but it can certainly be argued they would have done so given the chance. It was impossible to have such an open and frank discussions about the Space program because in their minds teh U.S. was number 1 at everything. The rituals that Americans took as commonplace and expected were creepy and over the top IMO - elementary level school children pledging allegiance before they even know what that meant, saying thank you for your service to every veteran without knowing that veteran or what their service entailed, American flags everywhere, having to stand and hold your hand over your heart anytime the national anthem is played or getting ridiculed if you didn't, etc. At times it would blot out and dismiss other world views and perspectives and could border on what I would call intellectual starvation. Their government in general would treat the populace rather horribly (i.e. lack of services), but those same Americans that said you can't trust the government as far as you could throw them would be the first to defend them.

Add "In God we trust" to our money as well and it's clear who did this. A lot of these acts were passed in the 50s to fight the "godless commies". I questioned everything as a kid and it was always blind pushback yep.

@@kosmo623 I disagree. It was explained in the interview that he didn't start where he ended (obviously), sure, the group that hired him had bad intentions, but how was he to know that? Listen to the interview, they lied. Obviously someone with more experience would have come up to speed much sooner, but you can't really fault someone for lacking experience, especially when they're young. Moreover, once he did figure what was going on, he didn't just brush it aside, he went against the peer pressure, put himself, his livelihood and even his wife at risk to speak up. Sure, in his case it ended relatively well, but if you finished it you'd have heard what they did to his colleague Laura, cutting off her money and trapping her in hostile territory for two months. Who knows what more would have happened if she wasn't American? It's pretty obvious that he showed tremendous courage, character, and integrity.

This was a very interesting episode if you put your bias aside. None of it was new information or shocking. The only shocking part was the cognitive dissonance the people you interviewed had. They had no issue targeting anyone and everyone when the US government was requesting it and even when willing when the uae government was doing. They only had an issue when the target was an American citizen because that's what their early on education told them. It's not their morals that made them question their decisions, they don't have any, it was a seed that was planted early on in their minds. That's why the label "terrorist" was invented. It makes everything justified. The US government created it and now the whole world is in on it. Step back, zoom out, remove your bias and you'll see the real image.

Lol. Yup. Just like US companies who used the freedoms here to make tons of money. Then do a cooperate inversion into a country with far less freedom, and has zero issue helping those countries oppress thier people. Sometimes they remain a US company with multiple HQ's in multiple countries. Who cares about morals, ethics, and liberty when you can avoid taxes & make even more money. So it doesn't surprise me that individuals are willing to set aside morals & ethics. Companies are made up of individuals after all. So there being a parallel is not exactly a big surprise. Specialy when you are talking about hackers who have been recruited, or trained to hack for this purpose. Most hackers do it for the ego stroke, a juicy pay package is just extra in thier mind. Ethics & morals are most often very lacking with hackers.

Yeeeeeaaaahhhh…. I’m a little skeptical of this story. In order to become a Navy Seal you must be in the navy at least two years and already have a rating (job). If he had “rang out” of BUDS he would have gone back to his regular job (already trained). It’s not an “initial school.” I’m getting Dan Bilzerian vibes from this story.

I suspect a bit of time compression / paraphrasing here. Given the high level of quality & fact checking behind this production I don’t see why it wouldn’t be legit.

@@esk8er900 That's exactly how the "best" lies are told. Plenty of verifiable true information to convince you to over look, or justify obviously false information that is key to bonifides of the person/story.

This is a form of recruitment in 2022. To each his own. Some numbers...Population by city/group...LA, NYC, and 3rd place is population of US Government approaching 9 million and growing. If you consider this a good thing with $50 trillion in growing debt, just follow the money. Also, taking your wife to Abu Dabi - again, to each his own. What happened to America over the years? I wish I knew. I am sorry for my part in it, for it becoming this way while I was occupied with everyday life and entertainment...then I opened my eyes. Nothing is normal anymore.

All well but this: 34:11 makes me laugh. You're bad when you target your own country people but not others who are also innocent. Hypocrisy or fear of getting jailed for life.

Unfortunately. The ones using this has more of a foothold in the system then just that. Hardware firmware is permanent persistence. That was likely the next step.

@@tonyzone8999 I'm fairly sure that it was introduced by Capitol One Shopping installed on Brave. It affected Chrome and Edge, even after I uninstalled it on all browsers. I tested it with VMWare and it started when I added that extension to my browsers, too. Only after I uninstalled Brave (I'd already dumped Chrome and added Firefox, which was unaffected) did it stop.
