I first visited Thailand 2000 when social media was in its very early stages in the west so literally non existent in Thailand. I have fond memories of those days fast forward 25 years social media has taken over creating a whole new game. I’m glad I have awesome memories of the old days very happy times 👍 And concerning the story being scammed & being played seems to be routine. Have to be 100% careful who you fall in love or who you involve yourself. Massive lesson learned.

i think the guy was sensible. yes his language is a bit old fashioned, but she came and went as she pleased. she said her husband ran away - that´s a lie. the husband and she conspired to milk him - that is very unpleasant. western media has also given the impression that life in the west is easy to thais ~- this creates difficulties all round

Also, I have to agree with you that our friend Gary might just have some outdated ideas about relationship roles. To say she should just be happy with a meal and a random gift and not having to work as a bar girl. Well, for one thing, many of these women probably enjoy the work in that it gives them power over much richer men. What a rush, yes? Then Gary likes the scenery, the exotic location, delicious foods, feeling important, etc, but feels the Thai token wife should just be happy with a meal and shut up. Quite a one-sided view that borders on exploiting disadvantaged women. Well, not to be too hard on Gary, but the silent, submissive wife went out more than 60 years ago!

All the ingredients of a scam. Money is the motive for everyone & do accept the fact that morality & physical relationships aren't viewed the same here.
