Lyle I made a couple of spill proof containers today using what was described as yogurt pots from the supermarket. They cost me NZ$2:00 each, and have the right shape with a full width screw on cap, and hold about a quarter of a pint. I made a brush sized hole in the lid, and have tried tipping them over when a third full with cutting oil, and nothing leaked. You can even get them with four different coloured lids (the container itself is transparent). Having knocked an ope topped container half full of soluble oil off the mill table last week, and creating a BIG mess, I am feeling pleased with myself. Fingers crossed that RTD does eat through the plastic.

Great episode, love the photo of you and your brother. They remain in our hearts. My Great Aunt Non Huffman made divinity on a wood fired kitchen stove, she never did change to electricity. Her husband retired Del Norte County Sheriff Bud Huffman use a Smith and Wesson Model 1898 Third Model Hand Ejector 38 Special when he was Sheriff, it was passed down to him by his father who also carried it as Sheriff. That gun is the root of my love of machinery, I have the exact model of Bridgeport that your model copies, and lead me to watching you religiously. Thank you for Mr. Pete for being such a vibrant person and teacher.

Thank you very much for watching. I enjoyed your story about the gun. Guns are what my brother originally did by hand as a boy before graduating to machinery. His love was for the guns more than the machines. I love to fondle my Ruger pistols, cocking them, rotating the cylinder Etc. It is just great to examine all of the moving parts and their interaction with one another. I do not actually shoot them very much, because of my tinnitus.

Growing up we had a hardware store that was like Herrcke Hardware though it wasn't near as big of a store. You could walk into that store and get just about anything you wanted. It might take them a few minutes to find where they put it but it was just absolutely packed. When the two gentlemen that ran the store retired and they sold everything in the store, man that was like losing a loved one. I've never been in a store since that had anywhere near that character.
@mrpete2224 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. There was a store here in town called Williams hardware. It was three stories high. There wasn’t anything that they did not have. Ammunition, gun powder furnaces. In 1958 there was a terrible fire, it burnt to the ground. Modern merchandising requires that all items remain on the shelf for only 90 days if you were to make money on them

Mr. Pete, Nice this and that video. A couple of thing caught my interest. We had a local hardware store in my small town in Pike County , Illinois very similar to the one in LA Salle. Just a simple store, locally owned and I don’t think there was anything they didn’t have or could get. Nothing but fine quality tools and hardware equipment. I miss that type of store. The other thing was the Divinity. My wife makes the best Divinity I’ve ever tasted and if you know anything about making it it’s no easy process. She always waits until the ambient humidity is very low. She claims that is the main ingredient in the divinity making process. Whatever, I know it’s good and the best of my favorite candy. (By the way, we never call it fudge here. Fudge is a chocolate concoction) lol
@mrpete2224 жыл бұрын
My friend in Baton Rouge, apologize for the late delivery of my divinity. He blamed it on the weather, and said he had to wait for a dry spell. My mother would sometimes make it, and about half of the time it didn’t harden right. She always. Said it was difficult to make. I have another friend here in Illinois who’s wife makes it for me occasionally. She apologize for the last batch, it was gooy. You can sometimes get it at Walmart, but it is absolutely awful. One bite, and I threw the whole batch away. You are lucky to have a wife that can make it! Thanks
@dalegriggs53924 жыл бұрын
mrpete222 if the humidity is high there is no way divinity will harden to that crispy, crunchy texture. It is either gooey Like you mentioned or just turns into soft crumbles. Of course it isn’t right without a good portion of Illinois pecans. There is no comparison in the flavor. The southern paper shell pecans produces abundant pecan meats and easily extracted but no way do they compare with the small, hard shell Midwest variety. We had three pecan trees out by the barn and it was always a right of passage to gather them and shell them out in the fall in preparation for holiday cooking. We invented various machines to crack the shells to produce the whole nutmeat. Nirvana!

If you or any of your viewers get a chance to visit southern california.. Carlsbad CA is the home of the craftsmanship museum. Hundreds of model engines of all types from supercharged smallblock V8's to aircraft engines, inboard and outboard boat engines, steam engines, complete running cars..all in miniature. There's a Bridgeport mill about the same size as the model you were given and if I remember correctly it had a working motor and the quill even went up and down! Had a mini rotary table too!... you can look it up on the internet and see many pictures but to see it in person was a bucket list item for me..

They have a full machine shop on site and when I asked pretty please.. they gave me a tour of otherwise off limits to the public. It would make a great video for your channel...probably a multiple part video to do it justice! Look it up online and see if I'm pulling your leg...best part is admission is free! But they do appreciate donations which you can be sure that I contributed.

Lyle, it was actually your accent that originally attracted me to watching your videos some time ago. Your earlier vids have you sounding slower and calmer with a particular tone that I found soothing and relaxing. More recent ones are not quite like that, but that's okay. I was intrigued with your earlier sound and got my yank friends to guess where and they got pretty close. I pulled your exact address out of a vid a few months back to compare notes with them :-) Yes, you have an accent, however it's worth noting that there are hundreds of distinct accents in the UK, many of which are almost as incomprehensible as southern US ebonics. So depending on his level of education and breeding, he may or may not be one to judge :-)

I think you can get those gears from Scott Logan at Logan actuator company. Perhaps find that on the web. You can find ordering information on my courses in a KZbin video. Search for this video, entitled. Tubalcain winter special shop video courses
