I actually grew up this way, my mom never had a place to go or a job so we were always staying with someone and 4 or 5 of us crammed into 1 bedroom. Our environment was so damaging to our health we missed so much schooling because we were constantly sick and need antibiotics. Had scabies at 2 points in my life from lack of clean bedding and clothing. Mentally it's incredibly damaging. It limits your social life, it ruins your self esteem, your physical health is declining so mentally you'll feel drained all the time from fighting the sickness, you'll have anger and resentment towards your parents/guardians for allowing an environment. In school i was the first one called to the principals office if there was a lice outbreak and everyone knew that, that type of stuff is so damaging for kids. I dont care if you wanna cram 10 kids into an RV at this point, but make sure your standards of living stay normal, including hygiene. You can be poor and be hygienic, i am currently struggling to even buy TP but i find ways to make sure I'm clean and have clean clothes, these parents need CPS to step in. Im not sure parenting classes will help them understand this isnt okay, for a lot it doesn't make any difference because they are stubborn and think its fine. I hope they can talk to an adult like me that did grow up quite similarly so they can see how damaging all of that can be.

When my mom separated from my step dad she had only a part time job as a project manager. We had no where to go so her boss (a lovely older lady) told us to move into her office. We lived at my moms work office for 1.5 month as she saved enough to move my sisters and i into a 2 bedroom apartment. We were 3 teenage girls and she gave the eldest her own room while my other sister and i shared and my mom slept in the living room. Those kids dont know real love.

As they grow up and have their own unique personalities and preferences, these parents begin to neglect them (emotionally mostly) because they are no longer those cute babies that they can fully control. Okay. No. I'm a disabled single parent on a fixed income. My toddler and I moved into the only apartment available right before covid hit, and it was a one bedroom. There was never a question about who gets the bedroom. My child got the bedroom. Period. I divided the living room so that I had enough space to safely get out of my bed and a few feet from the bottom of my bed, was a desk where I could work from home. That section was very tight but it only took over about 1/4 of the living room because I wanted a living room that connected to a space that was a playroom were I could watch my child play from my desk. I built a wall out of a secured bookshelf, plywood that was painted and drilled into the back of my couch. There's no reason they can't tough it while giving their children more space. Like bunkbeds are a no-brainer. These parents are selfish and delusional. I feel so bad for those kids, and the child he just abandoned and tries making excuses for why.

Also I’m from Portland. U can live in the outskirts and get a house or apartment for like $1200 with at least 3 rooms. You can also get on financial assistance there are tons of resources. I literally had to do rental assistance and they paid for 75% of my rent until I made too much money for their help. There is NO "letting" - there is NO choice when you owe child support & the state comes in & garnishes your wages!!! The fact that your wages had to be garnished in the first place says it all!!

My mom slept on the couch her whole life. My dad was dying of cancer, we were flat broke. She bought herself nothing and was still wearing clothes from her early 20s. I had my room, my brother had the attic and my dad had the front room (he was so sick they couldn’t share a bed , he was disabled) we were crippled by medical debt trying to save him. Flat broke. Not a family member in sight to help, and she did EVERYTHING she could to better our situation. These people aren’t doing a thing, but continuing to pop out babies, I guarantee you? If they got bunk beds, or if they can’t afford those, they could makeshift it so those babies could all fit in that one bedroom. There is so much wrong with this, living with pets and rehoming them when they get sick to get another cat, probably to do the same when that cat gets sick. The dad will never have a job because he doesn’t want to take responsibility for his previous child. They’re selfish and those kids deserve better.

Y’all, I hope this family never gets the fame they so desperately crave. From depriving your children of a safe sleeping space to actively working to make sure that your husband doesn’t have a normal job so that he does not need to pay child support, this family belongs in the landfill. These kids deserve better than parents who see them as accessories.

Sadly this is pretty normal in Oregon, I know lots of families who live 8+ people in 1-2 bedroom apartments. One of my closest friends actually shared her living room with her sister up until a couple months ago when her aunts and cousins finally moved out

This is so hard to see. I come from lower income and a family of seven. This ain't it. The parents don't deserve to be rewarded for this, but those kids absolutely deserve better. ETA: sure sure the internets opinion doesn't matter, but you know who should have a say?? The sacrifice you make for having so many kids in one space is giving up intimacy until you can financially support the children you have and give them the space/privacy. SELFISH AND GROSS.

@@sweet2sunshine At least where I live, if you are trying to keep your children or foster children, sleep arrangements are huge deal. They expect you to at least have beds for your children. But they also prefer there being a separation between male and female children.

For example if its a 1 bedroom and you have a majority daughters the daughters might get a the whole room to themselves. And the 1 or two male kids could have a bunk bed in the living room with their parents. That isn't an ideal living situation, but still more acceptable then making your kids sleep on the floor in the living room.

She could at least work part time during times he's home. It's not like they both have careers that prevent them from working odd shifts.
