I agree. The kids today need to aim a bit higher. Just a little.

I graduated Mission San Jose high school in Fremont CA with Mic Gillette in 1969. He truly was a good friend of mine. My class set up a scholarship fund in his name. He was an awesome musician and is sorely missed!

Tower of Power has the best horn section in R&B music history.

It's the Arrangements, the horn players have changed over the years. Mic Gillette lived next to me and would visit or HS jazz band to test their new arrangements. I was playing lead and this man was a God back then. he transitioned to bone and we met later when he would play with our Walnut Creek community jazz band. After Mic passed, I bought his custom flugelhorn from his wife. Chicago has amazing horns too!

Not bragging, but I've seen them maybe 30+ times (lost count) and EVERY time it feels like I did the first time. They never disappoint. I'm a guitar player because of them, but I love how they play each instrument individually. Beautiful and challenging arrangements.

BOUGHT THIS ALBUM ON EIGHT TRACK. 16 YRS OLD, DRIVING MY 1966 BUICK RIVIERA (MY CHICK MAGNET) IN 1973. TWO SHORT YRS. LATER, I'M STANDING ON THE "YELLOW FOOT PRINTS" AT M.C.R.D. SAN DIEGO, CA. I WOULD NOT TRADE THOSE DAYS FOR ANYTHING. TOWER OF POWER COULD BE RELEASED TODAY AND TOP THE CHARTS! MAYBE, JUST MAYBE EDGING OUT "RAP MUSIC".
