Ghana is a great country. But I didn't expect to spend my first few days in Accra running from people possessed by spirits! The Ga tribe has a celebration every year called the Twins' Festival, part of a longer series of celebrations in August. This festival celebrates twins, as you might imagine. But it turned out to be a bit more complicated than that. If you handle the experience well, you might even receive the Ga community's highest honor: a friend of twins.

Not long ago their doctors performed a ground breaking conjoined twins surgery that garnered international attention to their skills and methods and attention to twin issues. @lorraine Trout Mask @Milkyas Takele @Derrick Dankyi- I'm a proud ghanaian and I believe in God, his grace and protection but before the doctorine of christ and Christianity was introduced to us by the colonial masters, the only thing our ancestors had and knew was these spirits and deities and yes even though we have accepted that God infact do exist that doesn't change the fact that this is our culture and there are still some of my people who still choose to uphold and continue these beliefs and traditions so they don't fade away with time and Throwing this away means Throwing away our history and a piece of ourselves. But this channel is making me realize that we are the ones who are missing out. Theyre truly living. Truly loving. What a beautiful thing to witness. Also, I will add, I know that there are those that suffer in other parts of the world but this made me realize that having less than we do, doesn't mean they're suffering.

I think this is the craziest event you've ever filmed Tommy! Looks like madness but it's very interesting to see how into it everyone is. I'm sure it has a big impact on how together they all feel. We all see it and see it as madness, perhaps it is, but I wonder if some madness/crazyness is what makes the world go round. We aren't logic down to our cores as a species and sometimes I wonder if we are trying to make everything fit into a nice, neat, little box today in the West, going against our own natural wants and wishes! Anyway great video Tommy and what a place Ghana looks like!

Great video ! I have quite a few Ghanaian colleagues and they are generally very nice, warm-hearted people. I will be asking them about the Festival of Twins.

Way to go Tommy!Absolutely exhilarating! Man when you are in Africa you always seem to connect with some guy in the village who is known by everybody, respected by everybody and feared by everybody and can open all the doors if you are with him and on and on!

Tommy, I love your videos man. I'm a bit awestruck by your confidence to just go into these sorts of celebrations, but a bit nervous for you as well. You always somehow make your way through them, like the Jamaican burial, and the hashish village. Not gonna lie man, I'm a huge fan. Ghana, or at least this part of the country, reminds me of Jamaica so much.

Reminds me of my time in Togo in the early 2000s when I was a kid, I was a part of a similar ritual for mami wata where they all move to the sea and multiple people entering a trance like state. Quite the experience for a white kid from Sweden!
