This TRICK Makes ART for You... Photoshop Generative Fill!

Learn a fantastic trick to transform your photos into painting art using Photoshop's AI generative fill feature. By the end of this tutorial, you'll create stunning artworks from your own photos. Let's get started!
00:38 Open your desired photo in Photoshop beta.
Select the entire photo using the rectangle marquee tool.
Enable the contextual task bar from the "Windows" menu.
01:02 Click on "Generative Fill" and type "abstract oil paint effect," then generate.
Delete the generative layer 1 to start afresh.
01:38 In the "Channels" panel, add a new channel and change its black color to 40% grey.
02:22 Make a selection by Ctrl/Cmd-clicking on the "Alpha 1" thumbnail.
Switch back to the RGB channel and go to the layers tab.
02:51 Click on the generative fill button and type "abstract oil painting effect." Generate and explore the variations.

Finally someone found our hidden features that we did not have an UI yet. A few tricks of using the hidden feature: 1. changing the alpha values of the mask will adjust how similar the generation to the original image. 2. Feathering masks will help you generate fire, rainbow, smoke, fog or all soft things. 3. Negative prompt is supported. You can type things like ‘face, no beard, without glasses’ to adjust the results.

I like this. Thanks. This comment is not intended to disparage the video, but "abstract art" is not a good generative fill command. I think you mean "post-impressionist" style art. Like Van Gogh's portraits. But just a quibble.. the main point taken.

Thank you so much for this Photoshop AI tip and video. I am achieving some amazing results turning my photos into abstract oil paintings. Flowers, Tuscan street scenes, macro ladybug, etc. I usually have to generate 3 or 4 times to find the most realistic version. Then I run it through one of the Topaz programs as necessary. Anxious to try printing one on canvas.

I'm new to photoshop beta and it really isn't playing ball.... I've followed the instruction exactly but it's still generating completely separate images relating to 'oil paintings'. During my extensive testing, I have discovered that 40% is the ideal point to achieve the best results. However, if we go beyond 50%, the Adobe AI system generates completely different outputs that don't match the original reference photo.

Can't you just press Q to activate the quickmask, take a brush with 40% grey and fill the canvas (or just a part). Press Q again to exit quickmask mode and use generative fill. Isn't that the same?

I cannot follow the cartoon effect. It goes fast and seems like steps needed to be told to the viewer are missing. It seems like the generative fill only takes things outside the selection as input. So if you have some part of the photo 100% selected it ignores what was in that and generates new pixels that fit with what was outside. If there are no pixels outside then it ignores your photo and generates new pixels just based on your prompt. If you have an alpha channel, converted to a partial intensity selection, then the fill takes some account of what was inside the selection as well as outside, and generates new pixels based on a combination of what's underneath with your prompt and what fits based on anything outside the selection area.
